My new favorite pub on the Oude Haven (Old Port). We liked the atmosphere. It's hip, trendy yet…read morecomfortable and traditional. I also think they have the patio/terrace with the best view of any of the pubs on the port. And it's very well maintained and clean. As far as service, that was just right too. We had the correct amount of attention - a fine balance between checking in but not hovering. Excellent food and drinks selection from appetizers & entrees to beer, wine and cocktails. We had a traditional Dutch appetizer board: frikendel, krokets and bitterballen with assorted sauces. Tasty fried snacks washed down with De Koning beer and Liefman's berry fruit kriek/lambic. Yummy or Lekker as the Dutch say. The bill came with lollipops that taste like marshmallows on the outside with a bit of salty licorice hidden inside. A nice contrast and a sweet free treat. All in all, a very enjoyable visit including the chat with the manager/owner (?), Rogier Nelisse. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because we didn't realize it was cash or Maestro only. We used up most of our cash today so presented a credit card. Not accepted. Luckily, we had enough Euros left or it would have been a long walk to the ATM. The Dutch are familiar with cash or Maestro only but America is becoming a cashless society so heads up Americans. Don't let the limited payment methods keep you away. And definitely enjoy that gorgeous patio and view.
Beautiful patio. Lots of ambiance. Best view of all the pubs in Oude Haven.
Enjoy your visit to Van Leeuwen Winebar Kitchen! We did.

Vegan kidney bean "burger", with tomato jam, aioli, and guacomole. All entrees served with green salad and French fries.

Authentic greek food, as you can see in a small menu that is dutch only (don't even have an english menu but that proves how authentic and local it is!). For the pitas, choose your meat, the standard lettuce tomato and onion and then the sauce of your choice. The gyro meat was fantastic! For 6 euros, if was a delicious sandwich that I will be back for. After ordering I realized there was a 9.5 euro option which was huge! Definitely way more value with the big gyro and it will for sure fill you up. Beyond the wraps there are a few other items to pick from, but gyros seemed to be the bulk of the orders. You can also buy greek market items that they sell since it's half a store and half a restaurant. With only about 10-15 tables, this place fills up fast! People were eating outside in the cold because of how popular it was during the week at 5pm. Variety of cafe items as well such as lattes that you can enjoy with your meal. Does seem to be a popular place with the locals because I saw tons of delivery drivers come in and out throughout my short time there. Worth a visit for amazing greek food at a decent price.

I tried their signature style the Alan & Pim's spiced chicken, overall it was well seasoned and juicy. The skin may have been a bit under cooked I expected it to be crispier but that's just my personal preference not a deal breaker. I also had the yakitori starter with the sweet chili sauce paired nicely with the beer my server recommended. The chicken was tasty and juicy and just the right amount of char for me taste. I had the corncob side and the organic fries with chimichurri sauce. I loved the chimichurri sauce it gave the dining experience an extra flavor profile. I would suggest skipping the corncob, 3.5 € and you only get one and it's over cooked. The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, though not all of them were like that some were just sticks of grease. Overall I give it a 4 Star dining experience. The service started out very good, they checked on me every 10-15 minutes. But when business picked up, you lose them completely. The server was going to get me another beer before I started typing this review and I'm finished and she still hasn't brought me that second beer. **Bonus, the servers speak very good English and yes I know most Europeans are bi and even trilingual until you need help then the only people you meet don't speak anything other than Dutch***
