I was at Cafe Turri a couple week ago and it was absolutely fantastic. I'm surprised this place doesn't have more ratings given its prominence in Valparaiso. The inside of the restaurant is very nice but I would highly recommend you request a table on the patio with a spectacular view of the harbor and the surrounding 19th century architecture. I had the "los locos" which is a Chilean dish of tenderized abalone served with sauce and mayo. You won't find anything like it back home in los estados unidos, so order some and feel cultured. I also suggest the razor clams, which are clams baked with an alarming amount of parmesan cheese on top. Pair your food with a coffee or an obnoxiously affordable white wine from the Casablanca region of Chile and your seaside culinary adventure is complete. read more

Food was great and matched by the service. I had razor clams and duck confit- both delicious. My wife had Camembert with raspberries and a filet. Only issue was they did not ask how she wanted the filet cooked and it was overcooked. Randy was our waitress. Very friendly and attentive. read more

Four us stumbled on this by accident and it turned out to be my best meal of the week-long Chilean trip! The meal started with the waitress bringing toasts and a selection of pate and butter. The pate was duck liver and delicious. We asked for more later on and they happily brought more with a different type of bread but more delicious. Menus described food in both Spanish and English which made deciding more difficult! Lol. So many things looked good. For the appetizer, the four of us split a cheese soufflé and the octopus carpaccio. We we're warned the soufflé would take 40 min. We said ok and ordered a round of Pisco sours- regular and mango. Overall service was excellent. Never an empty glass and the food was timed well. The soufflé was excellent- fluffy, piping hot, and tasty. We devoured it. The octopus was chilled, sliced thinly, and amazingly fresh. For the main, I took the waitress's advice and had the squid ink lasagna with shrimp and scallop. Wow! Never had anything like it. Worth every calorie. It was voted by the table as the best entree. Two people got the lamb shank, also recommended. It was very good and fresh. The lamb shank was served with mashed potatoes. One said their potatoes were spicy, one said not spicy. One person had the meat ravioli and it was good but the other dishes overshadowed it. For dessert we had Crepes Suzette and another Chilean dessert that was a tower of meringue and custard. It was delicious!! We heard this was an older restaurant in Valparaiso. The view is incredible. We heard this is THE place to go for New Year's Eve. read more

Great spot for some traditional Chilean cuisine - the conger eel soup was amazing with big chuck of flavorful eel meat. Other fish dishes tasted delicious. Sat outside at the terrace but at night it could get chilly so bring a sweater :-) Great view amazing service fresh ingredients with a huge selection of menu items and reasonable wine list with many local wineries, this is a must try spot when visiting Valparaiso. read more

Amazing view, nice service and good food. My main dish was ravioli with tenderloin and it was great. Butter in the beginning is a bit tasteless and the starter was mediocre. We picked octopus carpaccio as a starter and It was ok but I had more fresh and tasteful octopus so wasn't very impressed. Then had a really good tiramisu for desert. Over all it's 4 closer to 4,5 stars! read more

This place is GOOD and definitely worth the hype. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere off all these tiny streets in Valparaiso and it can be easy to miss. It was kind of cold so we sat inside (no heaters outside) but we could tell the view would have been very nice. We started off with some shrimp and conger eel with the garlic butter sauce. SO. GOOD. I personally preferred the conger eel (slightly less salty) but they were both absolutely delicious. I also started off with a ginger pisco sour which was quite yummy and (of course) strong. For my entree I got the lamb shank with honey (which was really more of a sweet and sour sauce) and the spicy mashed potatoes. The lamb was quite good - I thought the sauce was a little too sweet. The mashed potatoes were good but not spicy at all (which I found was a pattern in Chile...for a country named Chile, the food is not "chile" at all (har har har)). For dessert I got the creme brulee which was good but nothing spectacular. I also ended the night with a caipirinha and a mango juice. Caiprinha was yummy and the mango juice was SO GOOD; how do you even get mango juice to be that delicious?! Try it. read more

[2004] this restaurant is the perfect setting to the culmination of a relaxing trip to South America -- a side trip from the long stay in Buenos Aires replete with a shaky plane ride over snow-capped Andes that summoned SURVIVE -- a book read 2 decades earlier about cannibalism amongst Uruguayan rugby players plane-crash survivors two generations back. {{heck any restaurant of even questionable pedigree will seem like Joel Robuchon's Atelier after a hairy flight yeah?} but i digress. this is the Chilean Pacific coast yo. that you get to by riding a bus from smoggy Santiago de Chile inland, past bucolic vinyards, then a brief walk along the coast, a hint of urban ruin -- and therefore color-- and that reminds you of the subjects of Italo Calvino's musings: fissured and rusty and dying and idyllic but ultimately mythic. then a ride up on the ascensore Conception [an angled elevator lift that hugs the hill] from the seaside below. the culmination [and an attendant 2 glasses of pisco sour] puts any leftover unease that Dramamine has not addressed to rest. sit back, enjoy the bass, nurse that bottle of monastrell, admire the flat line of the pacific punctuated by oil rigs and ships afar. como rie la vida, indeed. read more

This is the best restaurant in Chile having in consideration price, menu, and ambiance. I work in the restaurant business in NYC for Michelin Starred restaurants, and Cafe Turri doesnt lack any attribute to be at least a 1 Michelin Star. Macarena the hostess/reservationist is friendly, attentive and will accommodate your table preferences with a big smile!. Rodrigo our waiter was very professional and knowledgeable. Having dinned at other high ranked restaurants in Santiago and Valparaiso, we really appreciate the professionalism of the staff here since in Chile service at a restaurant lacks a lot of professionalism. Chef Cristian, a master of fish, creates classical Chilean dishes without losing its identity, portion size and flavors, but he manages to do it with an elegant flare. Restaurant on the hills of the coastline of Valparaiso with a magnificent view, great food and very kind personel. To reach the restaurant from downtown you will have to take the Elevador Conception (just next to the restaurant) or take the stairs. You can eat inside as well as outside, where you will have a magnificent view from the bay of Valparaiso (which is partly industrial) and the Pacific. They have menu in English and Spanish, with very good meat dishes and excellent, very fresh fish! Also a great choice in wines. read more

For some reason, this restaurant is listed on Yelp as a "Cafeteria." I've only been in Chile a month, so perhaps the designation of Cafeteria means something different here than in the U.S. But for those that think Bishop's Buffet, this label is a head fake. The place is terrific. Unsurpassed view over the Pacific. Excellent service - maybe the best we've had in a month in Chile. Tasty, quality food. Our family of four had a full meal with a bottle of wine for under $100. We decided that Cafe Turri made our "Top 5 All Time Family Dinners" list. I highly recommend this spot. read more
