These are very nice people who work here. Very personable and friendly. I can see if you lived nearby, you would want to be a regular. While we were waiting for food, I explored the store attached. Very cute flower shop and gift boutique. I'm not sure if they share the same owners? If so they should put a sign above the restaurant side door to advertise the shop. Maybe they can get some shoppers after breakfast/lunch? Back to the food, I had the goat cheese and sun-dried tomato quiche ($16) and it was a little too strongly flavored for me. Normally I love these two ingredients on pizza or in pasta, but this was a lot. For me, needed more egg. It didn't stop me from eating it though! We shared a Brioche French toast ($16) for the table, like an appetizer. It had a peach butter that was interesting. I think next time I want to try a Scrambled egg sandwich ($15) and add sausage patties. ($5) I saw a guy get that and it looked amazing. Now he knows how to order! read more

Honestly the best scrambled eggs I've ever had. That's what I'm starting the review with because it's important. The Rest of the food was tasty too. My only mild disappoint was the cornbread, as it was a little dry. Admittedly I only picked this restaurant because of the cool greenhouse concept so I had no expectations. They do not take reservations, which is a bummer, but the town is cute to walk around so we didn't mind the 45 minute wait. It is busy for Sunday brunch and it can get a little loud. Overall the vibe is unique, the food is tasty, and the people are nice. I don't know if this is a regular place for me, but I will be thinking of the eggs for a while. I love this place! I used to come here often about 10 years ago, and life got a bit busy so I wasn't able to come to Chestnut Hill much. I always loved the huge green house dining area, the service is always friendly and food always good. Their coffee is smooth, balanced and nice. This review is based on several brunch or lunch visits over the past two years & all of them have been great. Good idea to get there early on the weekend to snag a spot. Also, you have an option of getting their pastries to go! Service is top-notch with food usually coming out pretty quickly. Building looks like a fancy greenhouse; in the back you can see an attached florist shop. Love their quiche or frittatas of the day. Their side salads that come with some meals are good! Consistently good and delicious food. I usually bring out-of-town friends here for a casual breakfast (esp. if they have a sweet tooth as the pastries are all delish!). My friends and I had the best time at Cake this weekend! The setting in the greenhouse is just perfect, and our server was super friendly. A great but small dining space (i.e., what appears to be a repurposed greenhouse with high ceilings). The menu is on the simpler side, but the food is good, and the portions are fair to large. The staff are attentive, and the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood. The breakfast burrito was tasty, and the contrast in temperatures (between the burrito and the items that framed it) and textures (the burrito was softer with the eggs and beans, and the house salad was crisp and cool) was notable. While I didn't order anything from the baked goods display case, the offerings looked delicious. They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait or plan show up prior to opening. If you do need to be placed on the wait list, there are plenty of things to do in the neighborhood, assuming they're open (I.e., on Sundays, Cake opens at 1000, but most stores open at 1100 or noon). We had Saturday breakfast. Group of 5 with coffees and water for all. They forgot to bring one of the waters and we had to remind. The food was okay, but nothing super special. Frittata looks good and generally was decent, but very underseasoned. Breakfast Burrito looks great, but was again, kind of plain and undersized for what one might normally expect. It was a lot of wrap, not enough filling. The side salad was good, though. French Toast was average at best, which turned out to be the biggest surprise - bread choice really seemed to be the problem actually. Coffee was brewed with a water to coffee ratio that had too much coffee, which makes the final blend product come across a bit heavy and out of balance. Also, the itemized check included a markup of 3% on each item because we used a credit card. This is not mentioned on the menu. The notice does come at the bottom of the itemized, but only after you receive it, and unless you do the math, then you might not realize you do not get a discount by using cash, but a penalty if you use a CC. The issue I see is that the prices of the individual items were changed on the final check when it came back, rather than just adding a 3% surcharge as a line item on the check. This does not seem to be legal as they are deviating from the advertised menu prices with altered prices after the fact. Maybe they just assume no one looks at their check? Philadelphia seems to be awash with restaurants manipulating their prices and fees. We all get that costs are up, but you need to disclaim what you are doing on the menu so the consumer understands what they are going to see at the end. You could also just raise your prices by $.50 and forget the stupid manipulation of the check game. That way we wouldn't feel like every place in the city is running a scam. read more

My husband and I stopped in for Saturday lunch and were able to get a table within 20 minutes, which we spent perusing the bookstore around the corner. Once we sat down, we ordered a tuna sandwich with chips and a beet and citrus arugula salad with a side of grilled chicken. For the quality of the ingredients, portion size, and location, the price was reasonable. But the food itself was just fine. The tuna salad was a bit fishy, and otherwise pretty standard. The beet and citrus "salad" was more of a tower, and it tasted good but I wish they'd given more arugula. The grilled chicken had good flavor but was pretty dry. Like most of the places in this part of Philly, the architecture is very pleasing. I believe this place was a greenhouse before being redesigned into a restaurant. Have your cake and eat it too! What a beautiful spot in Chestnut Hill! We stumbled upon this spot when we were out gallery viewing. It appears to have been a greenhouse at one point and now an adaptive use restaurant. We had a short wait on a weekend at lunch time. The server was very friendly and attentive to us. We were also amused by the gentleman at the table next to us who raved and raved about their hangar steak. Apparently, he often finds he's too late and it's sold out on the menu. My husband got their quiche special which was deep and full of goodies. I ordered the crab cake and really enjoyed it. We also split a key lime pie - YUM. My fiancée asked me if I wanted to eat at Cake. I originally told her I didn't want to have dessert for brunch, so boy was I glad when this place also happened to serve really good food! This is definitely one of the coolest spots I've eaten at. The greenhouse-esque ambience brings in so much light and makes it feel like you're having an outdoor experience. Our waiter was very pleasant and was able to tell us about a variety of specials being offered. My turkey BLT was good-- nothing incredibly outstanding but just an overall solid sandwich. However, the quiche was really delicious. It was creamy and flavorful (asparagus, brie, and caramelized onions) with a crumbly, soft crust. We went for a little walk and shop at chestnut hill outside of Philadelphia. We've heard of Cake so decided to stop by. It is a little small without any outdoor seating (at least when we went) so if you're worried about dining in, I'd recommend getting takeout. The wait is also to be expected. Kinda wish they had outdoor but the decor in the interior was beautiful and so tropical/green house vibes . It was a chilly day so I got the grilled cheese and tomato soup- it was 10/10.
