When we arrived I was gobsmacked. Krinklewood has to be one of the most beautiful wineries in the Hunter if not anywhere. It has a real Tuscan feel to it and there are chook and peacocks bobbing about (you can buy their fresh eggs here too). The staff were really friendly and really down to earth and if you're in a small group you can pull up a chair and table anywhere inside or out and they'll bring all the wines to you to taste. Even more surprising to me was that their wines were amazing. I'm not normally a white drinker but walked away with half a dozen of their Semmilon and quite a few reds. Just about everyone in the group bought something and quite a few of us joined their wine club as well. Definitely put Krinklewood on your list of vineyards to visit even if it is only just for the spectacular scenery.

Well, I thought I was going to have a glass but I ended up getting a tasting flight because it was so tempting. They offer wine by the glass, bottle, flight or you can do a tasting at the bar. It was a brilliant experience. The staff were really nice - pleasant, knowledgeable on product offerings and really relaxed. I got the 'come to the dark side' flight, which was all reds. I asked her to pour me a little less because I was driving and it comes out around 2 glasses in total. I asked her to pour me half of each and pour a full one of 'the best one.' After a long deliberation (she told me) she poured the shiraz as the full glass. I had always thought I didn't like shiraz. Well I was wrong - now I do! I will always remember that this was the place that taught me. My friend ordered a different flight that had whites and reds, and also a cheese pairing for the flight - they match each cheese to a wine. I tried all of hers and all her cheeses. Really liked the majority even though bubbles and certain types of white aren't as much my jam. Really great place and good value for money. A nice, classy experience without being intimidating or pretentious. I'd love to come back here again - and next time I'd make sure I wasn't driving. IT'S ON!!

One of a couple of business's that occupy the lot on the corner. What it is, is basically a warehouse full of alcohol. Like a Bunning's Warehouse of booze. It's huge. Wine's as far as the eye can see and a wide selection of beers and spirits. Ice is available in their freezers and bits and pieces necessary for a party are sold here as well. There is a parking lot out the front and trolley's are available should you be requiring a large amount of grog. While Amato's isn't the cheapest bottle shop, that's not to say that it's expensive, but it is not a discount retailer. Ideal for parties, when you're looking for a brand of beer or wine that is hard to get your hands on and when you're really really thirsty.

Go past the brick wall and around the corner into Norton St and you come across the driveway and parking area for Amato's Liquor. Amato's is a large warehouse-sized (600 sq ft) liquor store that carries wines, spirits and beers from all over the world but apart for a huge range of Australia wine specialises in Italian wines. They have a wonderful selection at all price points so that anyone with an interest, be they novice or confident connoisseur can purchase a bottle of vino Italiano. However, the rest of the world hasn't been left out, 35% of their stock is imported. Like all other liquor stores, they have wine in the fridge, which on a Friday night comes in very handy as there are so many BYO restaurants in the area. They also have case deals for people who want to buy in bulk. A cool-room especially to keep the beer nice and cold is at the front and the spirits and liqueurs are in easy reach on the wall facing the front of the store. With thousands of products in store and over 250 beers, the store can be a little overwhelming but Franc, who owns the store has plenty of help and they are always ready to suggest a product if you're not too sure what to buy. It's hard to say because only three of their taps were available (no hard feelings the day after opening). Have you ever had your canned IPA served with ice in it? I have. Do not recommend. The outdoor seating consists of metal slated chairs. It's starting to get much hotter here so I do not recommend sitting outside unless the fabric of your clothes completely covers your legs or you're going to have a bad time sheerly from the pressure of your own weight against the chair. I believe they'll improve with more time post-renovation. At least the scenery is beautiful.
