I placed an order with Cakes By Edith a few weeks ago for a cake for my 28th birthday. This cake was inspired by my favorite artist (The Weeknd) and a cake I had found on tiktok fit my vision perfectly. The Weeknd has a song on his Trilogy album named "Twenty Eight", hence the idea for the cake design. I specifically ordered this cake for the cake to have the song cover with "Twenty Eight" on it. I reached out to Cakes By Edith on instagram, sent them my cake inspiration and they sent back the exact picture I was wanting, with the song cover for Twenty Eight on the cake. When my boyfriend went to pick up the cake yesterday, the cake was missing the "Twenty Eight" part of the song cover entirely. This completely defeated the purpose of the cake as I am also in bodybuilding prep so I wasn't even going to be able to eat the cake, I just wanted it to take birthday pictures with and then to freeze and eat later after my bodybuilding show. And it's a complete missed opportunity as I only turn 28 once. I sobbed when I saw the cake because I knew even though I couldn't eat it, I was excited to have my perfect cake and Cakes By Edith did not deliver. They did not offer to fix it, nor give a price adjustment. Poorly handled business as I am a very unsatisfied customer. I hate to leave a bad review for a local business but since Cakes By Edith did not even attempt to offer to make things right, I cannot support this business and I will be ordering from a different local baker in the future. Last week we ordered a custom cake from Cakes by Edith after a recommendation from a friend. The cake was for one of our best friend's surprise birthday parties, and we sent detailed inspiration pictures beforehand. We completely understood that it wouldn't look IDENTICAL to the inspo pics -- but we absolutely did not expect something that looked like it was made by a 5-year-old. We specifically requested gold flakes and bows that matched the aesthetic of the cake, expecting at least some level of professional judgment and common sense from a business that prides itself on "excellent work." The comparison photos honestly look like a joke -- almost a meme. But the worst part wasn't even the cake itself. It was the customer service afterward. When we brought up the issue at pickup, the employee at the counter told us they would "do what they could," but apparently the decorator had already left and there was no manager on site. Their solution? A possible store credit for my friend's husband (the one who picked up the cake) -- but he would have to come back ANOTHER day because no manager was available. To make things even worse, the employee literally said, "At least it'll taste good." Seriously? After presenting a cake that looked nothing like what we ordered? That comment alone felt dismissive and unprofessional. And realistically -- who exactly was supposed to "fix" the decoration if the decorator had already left? The inexperienced girl working the counter? The entire situation was handled terribly from start to finish. We understand the website states there are no refunds and that custom cakes may vary from inspiration photos. That's fair. But there's a huge difference between "slightly different" and "completely unacceptable." I called again TWO DAYS later to give them time to actually have management available. The manager's response was basically that she would speak with customer service, the pastry team, decorators, etc. to "improve the service," but in HER opinion the cake looked fine -- and since we took it home, there was nothing else they could do. Of course we took it home. THE SURPRISE PARTY WAS THAT SAME NIGHT. What exactly were we supposed to do? Walk out empty-handed after paying almost $100 for a horrible cake? Take a random pre-made cake we never asked for just to get partial money back? We went there SPECIFICALLY because we wanted a custom design. And regarding the "store credit" option -- again, they expected us to come back another day because they didn't even have a manager available at the time of pickup. This entire experience felt like a complete rip-off. Horrible execution, horrible customer service, and zero accountability. If negative stars existed, I would absolutely give them. In addition to cakes & pastries they offer cake decorating classes and wedding cake consultations. The classes range in prices from $50-$80 depending on what the class covers. We bought a Mocha cake from the display and it was moist and not too sweet. The mocha flavor was not too strong and the fruits on top were fresh so went very well with cake. Overall it was a nice and delicious cake. The staff were helpful and friendly. They were kind enough to write a message on the cake and put some edible glitter on the cake. Have been getting my cakes and sweet bread here for the past 2 years. They are super yummy but sometimes it does seem like their work is rushed. I previously wanted to get a black cake and they warned me that the flavor does change with black ink so I thanked them and changed the colors but I recently ordered a cake and wasn't aware they'd be using black dye and it definitely didn't taste the best. I did provide a pic of what I wanted and was told they could do that, but the cake didn't look slightly similar :( read more

My boyfriend's daughter turned 6 over the weekend and was having a unicorn themed birthday party. I saw that Cakes by Edith had a unicorn cake and knew I had to get it. I had the choice between vanilla or chocolate and chose vanilla, and then had the choice between strawberry, caramel, and raspberry flavorings in the middle of the cake. We chose strawberry. I also had the choice between pastel colors of frosting or bright colors and chose the pastel colors. Ordering was super easy, I just called the Monday before and was able to pick it up that following Saturday afternoon. You can also order online. The staff was super friendly when I went to get the cake. They also had candles that you could purchase there as well, and I obviously got the unicorn candle as well. Because of the unicorn horn the cake itself was tough to fit in a box with a lid, so my friend held the cake in the car for me. If you're ordering this cake specifically, it was helpful to have someone else help hold the cake because it did move around a little bit during the car ride. The cake itself was DELICIOUS! Oh my goodness. The frosting was light and tasty, sometimes cake frosting can get too thick, sweet, and filling, but the frosting was delicious and not too sickly sweet. The cake was light and fluffy and amazing. Everyone at the birthday party really enjoyed it! We will definitely be ordering from Cakes by Edith again in the future! I can't speak to Edith's cakes, since I ordered other bakery items, but WOW everything else I tried was delicious! I had never been to this bakery before, but gave it a try and will definitely be back. The shop is in a small strip mall off Redwood Road. From the street, it does not boast a catchy sign or storefront that you would notice from afar. But once you get inside, you see shelves and cases of baked goods. There are beautiful cakes up on the top that give you a glimpse into the baker's capabilities. I saw who I assumed to be Edith working with a customer on a cake order. The young lady behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. My wife and I wanted to get several things and try some new treats as well. She was patient with us and explained what everything was as well as gave us some suggestions. We ordered from the Taylorsville location, and when you walk into the bakery, everything smells so good and all the staff are genuinely happy and welcoming. I asked for a custom 8" double cake for my child's birthday party, with the theme being "first trip around the sun." Edith did a fantastic job with the cake and theme! The cake was beautifully designed, but also tasted good inside (marble with raspberry filling). We provided the planet balls and astronaut (and later added the candle) for cake toppers, though everything else was part of the cake design and edible (the stars). This was a $65 cake for a 25th birthday. When I picked it up the first time the writing was bleeding into the other frosting. Took it back. Picked it up when the party was 30 minutes in. Didn't look at the cake until we opened it at the party. The cake said '89 instead of '98 for the birthday, so again the neglected to look at what they were supposed to write. Lastly it was supposed to be a red velvet cake with raspberry filling. Obviously that was not done. We called them asking for the cake to be compensated as it was so messed up. The said to come back the next day for the refund. When I went in for the refund they said that because we ate the cake they would only give me $15. What are we supposed to do when it's already been "fixed" and the party has been going on for 30 minutes at 7:00 at night? read more

Update to my previous Review. I've continued to visit this shop once a week for the past month to try out the different items. My roommate and I LOVED the Tres Leches cake they sell in slices, and the Mocha cake was superb as well. I'm unsure what cake is in the picture, but it was a nice large slice for sure and quite delicious. It might actually have been my favorite this far. Every single time I've gone in I've been greeted nicely, and the staff is always willing to explain the contents of their deserts to help me find whatever I'm in the mood for. The deserts themselves aren't only tasty, they're incredibly presentable. Definitely a favorite local spot that I look forward to visiting every Friday. :) read more

Let me start by saying that my family and I are kind of tres leches cake snobs, and this bakery passes every single test. They're affordable, the service has always been great, and most importantly the cake is EVERYTHING you want in a tres leches cake. It's sweet but not over the top and the cake itself is never dry, plus the frosting to cake ratio is perfect. I've ordered cakes from other bakeries, and even the one in Rancho market and I always leave with some type of complaint. Other places maybe have good cakes, but they're too pricey, or have good cakes and their service is terrible. This place has never left me dissapointed.
