However, we've been coming to this place for 10 years and have seen its ups and downs. This time (August 2024), we were disappointed by the service, because our waitress was slow, inattentive, and had us sit in front of our empty main course plates so that we didn't even bother to order dessert. The food was ok, but in Italy, that is expected and actually, it wasn't significantly better than the food we had the day before in a small place in Marina di Campo which didn't even cost us half the price Le Viste had charged. If you're new to Elba, you must have dinner here once - but not twice (at least at this moment).

We moved on to our next course of fresh mussels in an amazing broth. We finished our lunch with fresh pasta - mussels, clams and baby snails. Delicious! We decided that it was so tasty we would come back for dinner and so happy we did! The local wines were superb as well as the house made limoncello. For dinner we once again enjoyed the beautiful homemade pasta and this time with olive oil and peppers. The owner came our with a tray of the fresh pasta prior to it being cooked. Yumm! For our entree we shared the Swordfish with olives and cherry tomatoes. My husband thought it was one of the best fishes he has ever had, mind you he is a "foodie as I". Don't miss out eating here!!! The place looks very fancy, but no real dress code seems to apply, so don't be scared off! Had the tuna tartar for starter which was very good and presented in a beautiful way. Then the lobster risotto for main and that unfortunately had ever so slightly undercooked rice and a lobster that was a bit dry. The dessert was the biggest disappointment - chocolate mousse that was just thrown into a bowl without any finesse and that tasted just like the kind you make yourself from powder from the supermarket. Most things on the menu (from starter to dessert) will work fine for us with gluten intolerance and following fodmap (IBS diet) as the focus is on seafood. Service was a bit stressed and the flow of things was not on their side. The waiter however recognized this without us even commenting and deducted our aperitif and coffee from the bill. The service we did get was very good though, so I would say that we caught them either on a exceptionally stressful night and/or they we're understaffed. A big plus that they have a guy that comes to your table to show you the food they'll be cooking you when ordering fish or lobster for example. Very nice touch! The seafood stew was the show stopper though. I was expecting a whimsy bowl of soup. Instead I got no less than 3-4 lbs of super fresh mixed seafood in a spicy tomato based broth. I looked at the waiter and asked if he left anything in the ocean. He didn't speak English but laughed and handed me a bib. Haha! The service was simultaneously professional and exuded family feeling. As it showed there were several generations of the owners family in the front and back of house. The Baba's were so delicious and so soaked, it was a good thing we had walked to the restaurant and wouldn't have to drive home!

My wife ordered the grilled calamari as a starter and it was PERFECT. The owner of the restaurant was helping us and he showed me the fresh seafood that had just come in. I saw a branzino and he said it was enough for two persons. He offered to do it in a salt bake even though it was not on his daily menu. My wife wanted a side of fresh pasta but not an entire plate. He offered to do a half portion for her. The food did not disappoint. The place is a bit rustic but the food and service was excellent. The entire bill was 80 euros, which we found very inexpensive for the food we ate and wine we drank.
