Calcareous is one of a kind for us. The view is beautiful, it's peaceful and it should be in your winery list, if you have one. We always love it, the wines are delicious, one of my favorites for sure. Their "Moose" wine as interesting as the name is, is one of my top wines from the ones I've been able to try in Paso. Every time we drive up here, this place is on the list. The last couple of times, we've even had lunch here and loved the food as well. Their customer service is also one of the best! Great wine with a nice ambiance! We visited Calcareous Vineyard on a Sunday, having made a reservation in advance. We booked the "wine tasting and lunch", which was a 90 minute experience on their patio ($40). When we arrived, we were greeted with the first wine on the tasting list, which was the Grenache (pretty good, different than what I normally go for). The patio had a nice view of the rolling hills and we could see goats running across them in the distance. The tasting consisted of 4 wines, and we also got a bonus pour. Our host was friendly and knowledgeable, and I really enjoyed the wine selection, especially the "Messer" red. We also ordered lunch, and both my Harvest Salad and Parmesan Fries were very tasty. The grounds were nice, but not quite as breathtaking as some of the other vineyards I've seen in the area. Overall though, a good experience! read more

Spent a few hours here with my friend between Christmas and New Year's, and decided we would have lunch out. The wine tasting was great, Eric was our server and he was wonderful, with personality and talkative conversation also explaining the wines that we were tasting, even though he was busy! We wanted to have lunch but wanted to split things, so we didn't overeat! We opted for a salad which was called the winter salad and I'm not much of a salad person, but the salad was terrific, it had seasonal winter fruits with arugula, a light vinaigrette, and a few pomegranate seeds really light and just perfect. We had the burger, which... Was divine. Brioche bun, caramelized, onions, red wine bacon jam and an aïoli. That burger came with fries, which we also split, but both agreed they were the best french fries we've ever had. I do not know how they got them so crisp they were delicious. The views are great. Rolling Hills of Paso Robles demand your attention. They have an immense outdoor area, although we sat inside because it was a little chilly. We had a great time at Calcareous Vineyard for lunch and a wine tasting! They took great care of us and our wine guide Gabe was really informative about the vineyard and their wines. Really great views also while sitting at the outdoor tables with umbrellas for shade. This was some of the best food we've ever had at a winery as well. We really recommend the Parmesan Fries, the Marinated Olives and the Chicken and Jack Melt. This was enough food for two people to split for a filling lunch. Beautiful views of the valley, wine tasting, and a culinary menu to choose from. Because of the latter, it can get crowded quick on the weekends, so make sure to make a reservation. My husband and I each did a tasting, and got the burrata app and the mushroom ravioli to share. They were both delicious. We enjoyed the wine as well but didn't feel inclined to bring a bottle home. Our server was great; attentive even though they were quite booked, and was able to give us a little bit of info on each wine. Looking around, every server seemed to be providing a similar service, with some taking the time to really dive into the wines with you. This was my third visit to this winery. I always enjoy this location due to it's location and view. I always try to get seating right near the edge and just chill and relax and enjoy the scenery. It was fairly early in the morning so did not order anything but the fries to snack on while me and my wife had a flight. All the wines are very good cannot go wrong with any of them. The lodge feel is an oasis for enjoying some sun. Wine club members can enjoy discounts on food & wine. Known for one of the best burgers. The bottles we chose were the 2022 Tres Violet and the 2021 Lloyd. With a brisk chill in the air sipping in the sun will warm you up and brighten your day. Coming back for more! We visited this winery at the end of 2024. It's our first time here and the experience overall is great. It's kind of windy getting up to the winery but the view of course is beautiful! Although it's a bit chilly despite a sunny weather, we chose to sit outside to enjoy the great view. We had to go back inside as the wind picked up and almost blew our umbrella away. The wine flight we tasted was in general good. We didn't like all the wines but liked one red wine very much and bought a bottle. The food was great, better than I anticipated. Everything we ordered was on point especially the burger. It's big, thick and juicy like they really mean business! LOL.....!!!! What can I begin to say about Calcareous other than I wish there were more stars! We had such an amazing experience on our visit. Took our group a few minutes to settle after the winding road trip up to the winery, but that didn't take long. As soon as we were seated, we were immediately provided with an off the flight tasting and provided menus for either lunch or small bites. Our server was so kind and attentive. Came for a girls wine weekend and stopped at Calcareous for lunch. The food was very good - their French fries are great and I got the butternut squash ravioli with shrimp which was also very good. The service could have been better. Our server initially said he usually just pours wine and wasn't intending on telling us about the wines. My friend had to explain that we had never been there before and then he agreed to tell us about the wines. It also felt like we had to drink our wine quickly, because at one point he came to pour the next wine and one of my friends hadn't finished her glass. He then asked if we were going to finish her glass so she didn't miss out on the wine he had brought to pour. We laughed but weren't sure if he was being serious so we drank the wine she had left in her glass so she could get the next tasting. Calcareous was our first stop in paso, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Philly was our guy and him and the entire staff went above and beyond for our honeymoon. We each did the tasting and would highly recommend. The pours are generous and Phill even gave us a few extra tastes. For lunch we had the pork loin and the butternut squash ravioli. Both were fantastic. The pork was cooked perfectly and the ravioli was decadent and came with a hot baguette to dip in the sauce. For dessert we had the ube Ice cream which was unique and a nice way to end the meal. The views are spectacular and there are paths to walk around and see out over the property. This was recommended to us for the view. The view was fantastic and overlooks Paso nearly from the top-down. It was on our way back to downtown, and was only about 15 minutes from that point. We didn't have a reservation and sat down immediately - it wasn't crowded. We had a big group and our server was great. He had so much backstory to the city and different wine history. We shared 4 wines - the best I personally thought was the rose with the second best being the red. The white was a little dryer and not as smooth as I excepted. Calcareous closed at 5 on a Saturday, but they never rushed to make us leave and we ended up sitting for another half hour after closing. A couple of weeks ago I visited this winery on my birthday. I experienced the worst customer service ever in the 15 yrs visiting Paso Robles. I was seated away from the main tables and waited 15 mins while servers glanced at me and walked away. I left after not being served. I took the time to write a letter to the owner, Ms Dana Brown who refused to respond. I would assume she affirms this behavior. Don't waste your time or money here. My husband and I came here for the first time to celebrate our first anniversary part of a whole day trip. I was looking forward to it because of the views and the good reviews. Also drove over two hours away to come here. We had a reservation at 3 PM however we got there earlier and asked if we could be seated. That is one thing that I didn't like, they had plenty of tables by the edge with a better view and when we asked to sit there, the hostess said no and asked if we were gonna eat as well. I don't know why it matters to see where we will sit because I have to see the menu first! So she refused to seat us at the round table for 5 and instead put us on the side where the tree was blocking the sun and stuff were falling from the tree. Also annoying! we also had a reservation and they would not see us closer to the edge to be able to see the view, which is really why we came to this vineyard in the first place. However they sat us in a table where it fits 8 people, I'm not sure how they don't have a table for two that is round but they have one that is for 8 and it's okay. It was not sunny at our table was in the shade it was cold and windy and stuff falling from the tree inside our wine glasses. And yes, there were some more tables in the sun but they refused, saying this is a different server, so can't be seated at the other tables and they refused stuff from the beginning. How is that our problem. We are also customers and paying the same as everyone else. we gave up and went to a different table that is way far from the edge and you see NOTHING to be able to get some sun and the stuff falling from the tree was worse so we poured our wine into our glasses and just went and sat by the just chairs without the tables. What's worse is that when we came back we saw two people sitting at that table that we requested earlier so somehow they had a "server" for them at that point for them. The Hostess was the one who refused initially and I don't appreciate that. Brie was our server and she was great. The charcuterie board was good. We had the Chardonnay, even though we like Cabernet but Chardonnay here was better. We will not be returning here for this experience read more

What a wonderful experience. The view here is worth the windy drive up. Just stunning. We arrived early for a Sat morning tasting and were welcomed warmly and led to an outdoor spot in the grass with a beautiful view. Our dog loved sitting in the grass under the umbrella while we enjoyed our delightful tasting experience with Pat, who was a wealth of knowledge and just lovely. This was the first stop on a recent Paso trip. The winery was recommended for the great views, and they were just that. Situated atop a hill, the views were EXPANSIVE! Due to the chilly weather we opted to sit inside the tasting room. Since we were the only ones there, we were able to pick our spot and opted for one near the window so we could still enjoy the outdoors. The tasting room was lovely and decorated for Christmas. Our tasting associate (unfortunately I didn't get his name) was absolutely fabulous. He was extremely funny and offered great knowledge about the wines and the vineyards the grapes came from. Unfortunately neither of us loved any of the wines. The favorite one we tasted was the extra pour of Loyd's Grenache, but coming in at $70 it was a bit steep for how much we actually liked it. We also had to wait a while with empty glasses in-between some of the pours. I think they may be more accustomed to people coming in to eat and taste rather than just taste, so they give you a little more time before checking in again. Tastings were $30, and consisted of 4 wines, with 1 bonus pour. Road to get here is pretty windy and narrow in some parts, probably best to make this your first winery of the day if you plan to drive. Though I won't return here, everyone has a different taste profile, so I wouldn't count it out if you're in the area looking for some wine tasting with a nice view. read more

Six of us came here for a wine tasting and lunch. The experience was one of our best in Paso Robles in recent years. The wines were outstanding, especially the Syrahs, and the food was excellent and fairly priced. Recommend the salads, charcuterie plate, and bread. Our waiter Dimitri was terrific.
