We were lured here on our way to Phillip Island by signs along the highway promising cuddles with calves and cow milking at this working dairy farm. Unfortunately, their only public milking is at 3:30pm, which we couldn't fit in with the rest of our activities for the day, so we only ended up eating at the cafe then hanging out with the calves. The food seemed overpriced at first, but the portions were huge, so in the end I felt like we got our money's worth. I had their soup of the day, a tomato-basil something, which came with a light and airy oven-fresh cob loaf and specialty butter. The boyfriend's buttermilk pancakes were also delicious, as was the giant mango shake we shared and barely finished. Unfortunately, as per the disclaimer on the menu, they can't serve farm fresh milk because by law it needs to be pasteurised, but I wouldn't hold it against them.
Right outside, you'll find a cute little wishing well, bunny hatch, and a small shed where we met triplet calves Rose, Rosie, and Rosella. Some of the chickens in the coop next door are of the hilariously fluffy variety, but you're not likely to stay long as the roosters are crazy loud and quite repetitive.
Except for getting back in the car to find that we were covered in dozens of tiny little spiders, it was a fun pit stop, and it'd be nice to come back sometime to check out the rotary cow milking. read more
