I chose this hotel for a one night business trip based on lounge / club rating and overall value / price and location. The location is good, you are walking distance to a large indoor mall and a lot of restaurants + the Calgary tower. We booked an access category room for the M Club Lounge which was a highlight--the breakfast spread there was quite good with a variety of offerings of cooked items, cereal and baked goods. The staff were also very helpful throughout my stay. A few minor things to note: my room didn't come with robes or slippers, and the in-room coffee station used standard drip packs rather than espresso pods. I also experienced a fair amount of noise from an adjacent bar in the evening even though we were on the 23rd floor. Noise continued beyond 10pm and it was louder than the tv. However, the bed was comfortable, and the overall experience was still very positive. I would consider staying here again. read more

Great option in center of the city. Located next to the Olympic plaza - which is unfortunately currently under renovations and construction but once done is a convenient and beautiful place to visit. Rooms here are pretty spacious and nice. Lounge for those with Platinum and up status is open 24/7 and they put our food in the evening and some snacks 24/7. There is a Starbucks on the first floor as well. Also can park your car with valet service - need to allow 30 minutes for it to be retrieved but otherwise helpful service - and some room rates include the service. read more

We made reservations months in advance for five nights to see the Calgary Stampede. The rates for this event were obscenely expensive. We picked the busy downtown location because we could walk to everything. We checked in after 11 PM, having been traveling for 15+ hours. We were not given maps, nor info about the hotel but we received two bottles of water and two types of earplugs. There were four elevators that moved up and down quickly. The hotel was dated and worn. We had a room on the 17th floor without feathers and a nice view. Lighting was strange, there was no master light switch, so we had to walk into a dark room & turn on and then off 6 separate light switches. There was a lot of space for suitcases and a decent amount of counter space in the bathroom. There was an old drip coffee pot with powdered milk & Styrofoam cups. I appreciated the daily housekeeping & fresh towels. The bathroom was strangely configured, I had to sort of climb over the toilet to get into the shower and it was tough to avoid getting my hair wet. There were no shower caps, nor the usual toiletry items that I'm accustomed to finding in the bathroom. The shower got hot and the water pressure was good. The bed was comfortable & the air conditioner worked. During the night the air went off and we woke up in a sweat at 4 AM. Our room was mostly quiet. In the lobby there was a Starbucks, steak house, and a bar /saloon. A fitness center with free weights and cardio equipment is on the third floor. A table with stampede information was set up in the lobby. Strangely there were many private events with food & cocktails in the hotel lobby. There was no concierge nor a cart or somebody to help us with our luggage. We got mixed messages, often wrong messages from staff at the front desk. Gorgeous hotel! I won a one night stay from an Instagram contest. As soon as I walked in, the hotel had the most amazing scent! Immediately I went on bougie vacation mode. The Starbucks right next to the check in desk was also convenient and exciting! They arranged for a room on the 18th floor. Right next to the Calgary Tower. The downtown view was beautiful! The king size bed was spacious. I appreciated the black makeup towel they provided to remove make up - pretty genius in my opinion. It was nice not to stain any of white towels with my makeup. The bathroom shower was also roomy and gorgeous. The valet service was efficient and reliable. Our SUV was in safe hands. It was nice to just walk out of the lobby and into our waiting vehicle upon checkout. I would totally stay here again. It was luxurious and comfortable. A staycation in my home province! read more

I stayed at this Marriott while on vacation in Calgary. The hotel staff were very helpful and patient when I asked a lot of questions about things to do and restaurants in the area. They were very friendly and responsive and came to my room right away when I requested more towels and water. Nice lobby with comfy seating and a Starbucks. Street access is a one way so it can be tricky to navigate. The round about for cars is quite tight and has an even more narrow exit with a weird angle to the street. The valet service is a third party company that charges quite a bit. I'm not sure where they bring the cars to but it's a bit of a weird setup. Our parking was included in our reservation so I guess the valets charge the hotel. I still tipped though. The wifi in the room was also included but the concierge said that when we first connect there will be a notification of a $7.99 charge and we should just accept it but in the invoice it will be complimentary. This was told to us verbally which concerned me cuz I'm sure it will be a different employee at the front deck when we check out. Big king size bed with a view of the Calgary tower. I am Deaf and was meeting my Blind friend in the hotel lobby when I asked to please use the lobby restroom. The woman informed me I needed my room key. I told her the situation and explained that I am diabetic and it was an emergency. She said she would call security to let me in. The security officer came and they literally chatted for several minutes before letting me into the restroom. Then the security officer rudely told me I had 5 minutes. I met my friend in the lobby and when we returned him to the lobby we chatted for a half hour before departing. The security officer stared at me signing with my friend nearly the entire time, as if I was going to rob the place. I was not dressed in dirty, nor holey clothing. I was in professional attire and so was my wife. We were treated exceptionally rudely and my friend has vowed never to stay there again. They weren't accommodating for Deaf or Blind. ​ read more

This hotel is a bit dated and could be cleaned better. Right as I walked into the room, I noticed several crumbs on the floor which indicates that the room was not vacuumed after the last person checked out. There was also a layer of dust on the toilet tank and dust and a few hairs (gross) on the shelf under the sink where the towels are stored. I noticed all this within a couple minutes of walking into the room, and not even specifically looking for dirt. I don't want to imagine what I'd find if I really looked. The hotel is old and it shows. The pool area was completely closed for maintenance, which we were not made aware of during booking or upon arrival. The tint on the room windows is bubbling and needs to be replaced. The ceiling is a popcorn texture which is super outdated. And the fan makes a clicking noise for about 10 seconds whenever the AC turns on. The bathroom amenities were also very sparse: travel size lotion and three large pump dispensers for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. No q-tips, makeup wipes, slippers, or anything else that I would normally see in a mid to higher end hotel brand. The hotel is in a good location downtown near a bunch of restaurants and bars. The bed and the stay was comfortable overall, but I usually expect more from a Marriott. read more

Arrived for a short business trip and the staff was nothing but phenomenal. Beyond status upgrades, etc; they took their time to update me on all the offerings of the hotel, M-Club was open with some limitations but 24/7 snacks and drinks were available as well as a decent breakfast if you wanted. The rooms were very clean, large and everything was in order. Staff was efficient with valet and checkout was smooth. Property seemed newly renovated and I appreciated the upgrade to a view of the Calgary Tower. We had numerous problems with this hotel. #1. The room had no soap. When we discovered this at bedtime, we called the front desk and they said they are out of soap due to supply chain issues. The fact that they should have found a solution notwithstanding, they should have informed us when we checked in. #2. The hotel room did not have a desk or chair despite being a business hotel. We needed a room with two beds and they said those rooms don't have desks. #3. The gym's primary piece of exercise equipment had a broken cable, making all exercises with both arms impossible. I give two stars rather than one because the staff that I contacted through the Marriott Bonvoy app did their best to address my concerns. read more

No complaints about the downtown Marriott. It's a convenient 2 min walk from Calgary downtown and 10 min walk tops from the Stampede expo grounds. The only caveat is the $25/day valet parking in a private above or below ground lot, unless you wanna find downtown street parking yourself. Room was clean, efficient and modern with good storage, a comfy bed, a large bathroom and shower room, very nice. With an average palatable breakfast included for $129/night on Comicon weekend, we were more than satisfied and would stay here again. Don't forget your SPG Starwood Alliance points, with bonus points for passing up a day of housekeeping, cuz lord knows 2 peeps can survive one weekend without fresh towels and linens. Great affordable location within easy walking distance of downtown faves including Inglewood, Stephen Ave, Eau Claire Market, Chinatown and the Stampede expo grounds. It was okay. A bit of a snob atmosphere at the front desk about upgrading us and giving out the wrong information. Sigh. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, however, and we enjoyed a big screen television our last night in Canada. It's a high rise Marriott and the view was of an industrial area of the city. The bathrooms had the slick marble floor which is a pet peeve of mine. Come on! I think it's dangerous for children, teens, adults and elderly folks. BUT, I love the Thann brand soaps and shampoos left for our use. Our restaurant experience was also strangely snobbish. What the heck? But we rocked on like we didn't notice. Lovely hotel in downtown Calgary. Stayed here for just one night. Front desk staff were extremely helpful and provided good recommendations for nearby restaurants. Room was spacious and clean. The hotel seemed to have a shortage of 2 queen beds, as I was told there were king rooms only upon check-in. Slight inconvenience, but they put us on the top floor with a lovely view, so no complaints. Bathroom shower is fantastic. My only com was that I think they need to replace the air filters, as after a few minutes in the room I had trouble breathing, but if you don't suffer from bad allergies, this is probably no big deal. The hotel itself was in a prime location in the middle of Calgary and the modern rooms had great views of the Calgary Tower and Stephen Avenue. Since there wasn't too much to do in town, my family and I spent most of our time in the M club lounge. The food there was great and there was a wide variety of sweet and salty snacks and drinks. The staff here were amazing. The lounge employees and the lobby staff were extremely helpful with planning out our stay in a presumably bland town and made it extremely delightful. Out of all the Marriott hotels I've been to, this is the best one. Even if you aren't an elite member, you will definitely enjoy this Marriott. I ended up booking a room at the Marriott in downtown Calgary, despite the fact that I'm "local." "Why," you ask, eyebrows raised suspiciously? Well let's just say I was participating in an event after work where significant quantifies of alcohol would be consumed... and the cab rides home and back, as well as needing to work downtown the following day, made an overnighter seem more reasonable. Soooo.... I'm reviewing a Calgary hotel from the perspective of a Calgarian, but also as someone who has done significant business travel through the years. This includes lengthy stays at other Marriott's. The verdict? Well, this hotel would love to consider itself "5 star," but unfortunately, it is not. There are pros and cons to weigh before you stay. Pros: -- The location. It sits between the Calgary Tower, and Stephen Avenue. You have a wide array of restaurants within a block. These include Charcut, Catch, and Divino. Physically connected to the Marriot is Milestone's, which I consider one of the better "chain" restaurants. As well, the hotel has its own restaurant and bar, which includes a rooftop patio overlooking Stephen Avenue. In addition: -- It's a block from the LRT, so all of downtown is readily accessible without a cab. -- it's physically connected to the Telus Convention Center -- there are breakout meeting rooms for conference hosting -- a Starbucks in the lobby. -- valet Parking Cons: -- Valet Parking. Yeah... It was a "pro" in some respects, but a con in others. Here's why: they charge an additional $35 a day for this service, on top of the tip you will no doubt feel obligated to provide. You will also pay for any additional vehicles/guests, even if they are visiting for dinner. Your only other real option is to seek out nearby Impark lots, which in the core, are nearly as expensive. -- The valet parking is kind of inconvenient if you want to stop by your room for a while, and head out again later. It can take up to half an hour for the valets to retrieve your vehicle, so call ahead. -- Additional $15.95 per day for high speed internet. Seriously, if I were traveling to Calgary on a regular basis for business, I'd skip any hotel that charges extra for this. The novelty of "high speed" vs. dial up died years ago. Make it free. And as an aside, I also find it interesting that higher priced hotels feel the need to charge for Internet access, while the cheaper ones throw it in. Why is that? What are we paying the premium for, exactly? -- For the price, the room was nothing special. It was clean, modern, but of the "older/smaller/but recently refurbished" variety. So without knocking down walls, they are still limited to the physical dimensions of when the hotel was built. -- The price. All in, the room was way too pricey for what I was getting. Overall, it would be fine for an out of town business traveler who was cabbing it from the airport IF they were getting a decent corporate rate. Otherwise, for the price, it falls short. read more

Stayed on a weekend day for around $116 which was appropriate- wouldn't pay the weekday rates of $300 and up. Location was great, they have valet parking ($25/day on weekends, $38/day during the week )offsite unless you want to find your own spot somewhere downtown . The staff at the hotel was fantastic- friendly and helpful, esp the valets and check in clerks. They really enhanced our experience. There's a Starbucks downstairs which is great and has friendly staff. We checked in around lunch just to drop bags off and then explore the city. They are renovating, so it was really loud during the day which is fine. The noise level at night was from a different sort , you can hear everything people say and do when they're walking by in the hallways , didn't like that- that's how we woke up in the morning too. The room was clean , nothing fancy about it,nice and comfortable. I really enjoyed the Marriott, for the quality of the hotel I didn't find in overly pricey and they had a package for an extra $15 a night you got free valet parking (which was insanely overpriced other wise) and a free $25 gas card. Taking those perks into consideration it ended up being cheaper then the dirty ol' Sandman and a better location for a weekend of partying in the downtown core. They have pretty hefty charged if there is more then 2 people in your room, but they didn't happen to notice that 4 people were staying in our room for the price of 2. It would have been $35 for a 3rd person and $55 for a 4th, that is a little excessive in my opinion so we just lied. You can also expect to pay $15 a night for wifi. We also ended up having a pretty loud party on Saturday night and to our surprise didn't receive a single complaint. The pool is nice but could stand to be a few degrees warmer, the hot tub could have also stood to be a few degrees hotter. They had a really nice looking gym set up. Overall an excellent hotel, the only turn offs were the really high fees and the overly kid friendly pool area. read more

Before July of 2015, I'd never even thought about going to Calgary, Alberta. My wife and I went up there for a business conference and we stayed at the Calgary Marriot Downtown. Our room was modern styled and immaculate, with a view of the Calgary Space Needle (not sure if they called it a Space Needle...but there you go). The location of this hotel is perfect as it's one block from Stephens Street (wide variety of restaurants, bars, and food trucks), has great access to the theater district and there's an Avis Rental Car office right across the street. The front desk staff was amazing! From the first moment checking in until the time we checked out, the front desk staff was fantastic! They gave us great tips on places to eat, helped us order pizza at 3am, and tolerated our questions about the proper way to eat Poutine. This was truly a great trip and the Marriot was a fantastic place stay. Would give it 6 stars if I could. Can't wait to go back. read more

Although it's currently under renovation the Marriott hospitality and service shine through the dust cloud. From the valet upon arrival to the housekeeping staff every member of this hotels team makes certain that you feel like the most important guest present. My room had an amazing view and was spotless and well appointed. It has an in house starbucks to get your caffeine fix as well as a lounge which serves breakfast in the morning and hors d'ouevres in the afternoon. Best of all the price was very reasonable and a bargain for the amenities included. read more

I had a fabulous stay on the top floor in a newly renovated, modern room overlooking downtown. The lights down on Stephen Avenue and the local apartments were so pretty that I just left the shades up all night. The window could be opened a crack, letting in a little breeze and quiet sounds of the city streets to whisper me off to dream land. The bed was extremely comfortable, the showers were nice, and the hotel staff was very friendly. The hotel is near all the major downtown spots. We recently held a second conference here (It was booked before the last one) and my opinion hasn't really changed. I still had to chase after people to try to eat. They still have their ridiculous internet policy and prices. Positives: -I had an upgraded room, which was nice -I was able to have my hedgehog with me -The meeting rooms were set up well and were conducive to good meetings Negatives: -Even in the upgraded rooms, the shower kind of sucked. -Having to pay for internet, even with a conference -Having to wait to eat an hour or two after everyone else due to prior submitted dietary requests being ignored. Gold Marriott Rewards member so I was upgraded to concierge level. If you are gold or higher, do not check-in online because the system doesn't auto-upgrade you. You'll get blocked into a non-upgraded room and then they have to shift things around when you arrive. 2nd floor concierge club has good food, but strangely charges for evening drinks. Whoever designed the recent room renovation should find another line of work. No desk to work at. No place to hang your shower towel within reach of the shower. Not enough storage in shower for soap and shampoo. No bathtubs. Room doors are really loud. Even given all of the above, I did like the hotel and would return if price was reasonable. read more

I'm here for a two day business trip and will have to hunch over a wobbly cocktail table while sitting on a couch. Business travelers don't want to spend their time sitting on a couch. Marriott really needs to rethink this room design. The location is great, service has been very good. Desk staff clearly has heard the no desk complaint many times. The WORST hotel. My boyfriend was here for a bachelor party a couple months ago and their stay was fine and UNEVENTFUL even though they were noisy - there were about 20 of them! I would give this hotel a good review based on that HOWEVER we were there a few nights ago and were kicked out because of a noise complaint! Our friend was celebrating her 30th birthday and she had made a reservation at this hotel so that she didn't have to get a cab home (since she lives in Strathmore) we got there, were having some conversations and all of a sudden got a noise complaint. What? There were only four of us in the room but I guess maybe we were being too noisy??? We were told that if we got another complaint that we would be kicked out so after that we were very careful to whisper since we did not want to get kicked out. BUT maybe 30 minutes later the security guard came up with two police officers to kick us out because we had gotten another complaint. Really? We had been whispering since the first complaint. We tried to explain this to the police/guard but to no avail. This was absolutely ludicrous! Because of these instances I will NEVER recommend this hotel to friends/family because of their disrespectful attitude and behaviour towards my friend and myself. They made my friend pay for the hotel even though she did not even get to spend the night there. This hotel needs to work on their customer service big time! If they continue on this path they will continue to lose business left and right. I am absolute appalled at the way they handled this situation and just hope that they get their act together in the future! Do not stay at this hotel if you can help it! If you value customer service then look to another downtown hotel! There are so many that are better than this one. Take my advice and heed this warning!!! read more

Absolutely loved this hotel. It is in the perfect place in Downtown Calgary. It is right across the street from the Calgary Tower and Stephen Avenue Walk is right behind the hotel, which has amazing shopping, eating and things to do. I'm going to try and book a week there next year so I can go to more of those places. The beds were comfortable there. It was very clean. And the staff was very warm and welcoming. This used to be my favourite hotel in Calgary, but a number of things have started to annoy me: 1) the check-in/check-out process is way too lengthy. It's annoying to stand in line waiting to check out while the attendants give a 10 minute long spiel to disinterested guests. There's usually only 1 or 2 people at the desk, and a number of other hotel employees just standing around, doing nothing. 2) the customer service can be attentively weird. For example, while I was waiting in line, an employee came up to me to make conversation and ask how I was doing. I told her I was in a rush and just wanted the check out and she just nodded and smiled and moved on to the next person. Um, maybe get behind the counter and do something like check me out rather than empathizing with me about how late I'm going to be for my meeting. 3) on a similar vein, the women working the M lounge are also way to attentive. I don't want to make conversation at 6am, I just want coffee. Most of the people in the M lounge are older men, and the lounge employees are way too friendly with them, ie it's awkward to watch women in their early 20s flirt and compliment fat old bald men in their late 60s. 4) the housekeeping is a bit hit or miss, dirty towels often left on floor. 5) way too much air freshener used throughout the hotel, annoying if you have sensitive sinuses and especially irritating as it's so dry in Calgary.
