This was probably the worst experience and facility I have ever dealt with! I will explain and hopefully no one has to deal with this business and end up with a HALF ASS unsafe vehicle. I will preface this with facts. 2010 Toyota 4 runner owned and driven by my daughter. The vehicle has been maintained by me since purchased used in 2016. My background was a career truck and vehicle mechanic for 16 years so I know what I am talking about. With that said, my daughter's car was parked outside a business and was side swiped by a vehicle. The right front tire assembly was pushed into the vehicle with obvious damage and bent components. The vehicle was towed to Caliber from the incident and Johnathan was the primary contact, as well as some other idiot female (don't recall the name) that has no business dealing with customers regarding this type of work. Mind you I live in Rialto and my daughter lives in PB, so I was shagging the initial phone calls after the collision. I spoke to Johnathan in depth and the work was authorized. Fast forward a few weeks. My daughter was now the point of contact and I let her deal with it as a learning experience, whilst I coached her on what to look for, questions to ask etc. As expected I received feedback from her on the runaround she was receiving, a few times the vehicle promised and it was not completed plus the lack of customer service in her opinion. Well we finally get the car back and my daughter drives it away. She immediately notices the vehicle is very unstable. She contacts the company and they obviously advised her to bring it back. The alignment was gone through a second time and the vehicle was then again released to her. My daughter is a student and a working young woman so leaving her car, finding a ride etc is a major burden. The vehicle was still not right and VERY UNSAFE! Now I got involved and spoke to the female I mentioned above who's name I do not recall. This person advised me the front end guy at Caliber told her tell me that ALL 4 ball joints needed replacement and that is why the car is unsafe. I can tell you with conviction that car was tip top and had ZERO issues prior to the accident. We finally got frustrated and took delivery of the car because it was obvious the imbeciles were not going to fix my car properly. I had her drive the car home and I took it to an alignment shop at Les Schwab. The tow setting was so far off the guy was surprised it was even somewhat tracking. The alignment guy also told me the entire front end was completely tight and no components were worn, unlike Caliber telling me all 4 ball joints were worn and needed replacement, in turn causing the major unsafe condition. The car is a bit better but still not right. IMO something is bent that cannot be seen by the naked eye. The vehicle will track to the right when a dip or road imperfection is encountered. We gave up on this place and their shady practices but I felt a need to warn people to stay away form this mediocre repair shop. If I lived closer I guarantee I would be in that office daily and my car would not leave until fixed properly. It is very hard to deal with incompetent people 100 miles away over a phone. Ben, the office manager, and Ashley, the office administrator, took great care of me especially the outstanding repairs. My car drove much better after the repair than it did previous to the collision. Recently I had an unrelated problem with a visor that had become unconnected from the roof.Three different gas station guys couldn't reconnect it and neither could I. Again, I took to Ben and Ashley. Took my Honda Accord in today after previously scheduling an appointment a week prior to have my front bumper looked at after I accidentally swiped the corner of a painted wooden pole and got paint transfer on my car. I came in to find out I had put the wrong time in my calendar and Ashley at the front was understanding and accommodating and was able to squeeze me in for a later appointment! This whole process was a great experience. I have had body work done in the past by supposed professionals that turned out just awful, so I was very nervous. These people were super friendly & knowledgeable and put me much more at ease. My car was repaired beautifully in just a few days. Every hit and run accident have ever been involved with has been since moving to San Diego. Three times total, so I am unfortunately familiar with the car repair process (from a customer's perspective). This wasn't a hit and run, but yet another rear ending (they rear ended me, not the other way around). I put off dealing with the repairs for a month because it is usually such a time sucker. Caliber made it relatively painless. Once insurance was called and all coordinated, all I had to do was swing by and drop off the vehicle. No muss, no fuss. My seatbelt needed repairing. When I called Caliber Collision I spoke with customer representative name Liz who was very kind and helpful and when I received estimate for labor and replacing cost around $181 which was fine. I returned few days later to drop off my car when I got home I received a call that the cost has changed the total was $301 more which Liz apologized. I was already committed to the first cost. We had our 2017 car backed into (not our fault) and Caliber Collision on Mission Bay Dr and Garnet estimated 6 business days for repairs. It was an additional 6 business days (15+ days total) until we received our car fully repaired, but not without some hiccups. When my husband was finally called and told the vehicle was complete and ready for pickup, he hopped on a city bus to head to the shop only to be called while on the bus and told the alignment issue hadn't been fixed and they had just taken the car over to the alignment shop. Upon picking up the car he noticed that several pieces of trim had not been installed correctly on the mirror and door and were bulging/popping out and that the steering wheel was not centered during the alignment process and had to bring the car back again the next morning and wait 3 hours for the issues to be rectified. (Having a 16 yr old teen driver in the family, it was especially important to us that the steering wheel be "clocked" correctly so that the hands free phone and radio controls are ergonomically placed for easy and intuitive access while holding the steering wheel). After the fact: They are going back and forth with our insurance company and saying that the repair was not delayed beyond the estimated time! Not our fault that their estimator incorrectly estimated that the fender could be repaired (costing several days) when in reality it had to be replaced or that they had personnel/staffing issues preventing them from completing the work on time and/or correctly. All we get is the excuse that the person who took it apart is not the person that put it back together. Meanwhile, we get left to wonder what else that we can't see (underneath the bodywork) was put together incorrectly. =( The fact that they would release a car to us that wasn't fully repaired and restored back to pre-crash condition we found quite troubling and demonstrates a poor attn to detail. That said, everyone was nice, but this is a review on a repair shop and this review is based on the merits (or lack of) regarding that designation. I believe they failed to meet expectations and missed the mark by a significant margin. Lucky for me my husband is a former service mgr and service writer and could spot some of these issues with the incorrect repairs as he's pretty confident the dealership would have spotted them upon lease return so they definitely needed to be corrected so that we didn't end up paying for Caliber Collision's mistakes! I will update this review with the outcome regarding whether the shop wants to take ownership for the delays in repair and cover our loss of use at $30 a day for our 2017 car for the additional time it took them to complete the repair beyond when it was promised. Had we have known up front it was going to be over 2 weeks without our car, we would have accepted a rental car. Right now the review is a 1 star (Would like to give them somewhere between 1 and 2 really) but has the potential to be a 3 or 4 if they simply "fess up" and make it right. I can forgive, but they need to be sorry first. UPDATE: Been a couple weeks since we picked up my car and it looks like the button for the power mirror keeps popping out. We're done with the Caliber and told our insurance company that another store is going to need to do the repair. We simply don't trust them to do the work right or in a timely manner. My husband also was on the phone with USAA today telling them NOT to ever recommend this particular Caliber to anyone else. This is the 3rd time we'll have taken the car in for something that should have been fixed right the first time considering they spent double the amount of time promised to repair it in the first place. read more
