We decided to give them a try as the food court at this mall is always packed, no matter the day or time! We were quickly seated and the server came over fairly fast to take our order - the server was very nice, but he was slow to write down what we ordered so we had to repeat our order twice; he was an older man, and very nice to us. We were seated next to the "kitchen" and we really liked the open concept, as seeing someone prepare your food is somewhat reassuring about their standards. I ordered their lunch combo - half a chicken california club sandwich and a side salad. Their Caesar salad was okay, pretty standard bottled dressing and actually nice croutons. The sandwich was also okay, there was not as much chicken as I would've liked, but the avocado was fresh and so was the bread. It did take a while for us to be able to get the bill. Our server didn't check back on us after we got out food and we weren't able to call him over, as he never looked our way, so we had to signal another server to get a to-go container and the check. Nice location inside of the Garden State Plaza Mall and, most importantly, solid food. Personally, I had not been to a CPK in probably more than a decade! And with this being our 1st time at the Garden State Plaza Mall location, we very well enjoyed our experience here. For the longest time, we patronized the mall and passed by this CPK 90% of the time. With all of the food options at our disposal inside, we always overlooked it and figured we'd eventually get to it when we went through all of the other yummy restaurants. Tucked not too far from multiple entrances, it now has the unfortunate distinction of being located across from the uber popular Kura Revolving Sushi. However, this clean and cozy CPK still draws quite the crowd, especially on the Sunday morning/early afternoon we dropped in for lunch. We arrived at around 11:30 where it was mostly empty inside, but by 12pm, the restaurant was very busy with mostly families - like us. The menu, as you would have predicted, is centered around personal pizzas - Cali-style. However, the menu is surprisingly much more diverse than just pizza - there are lots of salads to choose from, sophisticated entrees/pastas, soups, a variety of starters and sandwiches. We began our meal with the White Corn Guacamole + Chips, which was very good.....except for the fact that it was quite a small order, on both the chips and guac parts. For $14, the order SHOULD have been at least double the size of what came out. Nevertheless, it was still a good guac and chips appetizer. For our entrees, my wife ordered the Waldorf Chicken Salad, while I got the The Works pizza, which consisted of spicy Italian sausage, rustic pepperoni, Cremini mushrooms, Mozzarella, red onions, green peppers, olives, and wild Greek oregano. And, last, but definitely not least, our kids shared a Kids Mushroom Pepperoni Sausage pizza. Overall, everything was decent. Not mindblowingly amazing, but fairly solid. I can't speak too much to the salad, which my wife enjoyed, but The Works pizza was good and a perfect personal pie size with 6 slices in total. There were plenty of toppings and it tasted good. Couldn't really complain much about it. Our kids kind of struggled through the Kids pizza though. They LOVE pizza, but, for some reason, they weren't huge fans. I even had to eat a slice of their pie, which I thought was pretty good as well. Besides the food, we also ordered a Strawberry Lemonade, which came with unlimited free refills. I never actually dyed here, but my husband brought home the take and bake pizza. I didn't think it was gonna turn out good. But it was so easy to make was done within 8 to 10 minutes and it was really really good. The only down part was the middle of the pizza was a bit soggy before going into the oven and that part did not cook well. But I will absolutely do this again. The mac & cheese had too little sauce. This used to be a kid favorite, but it would not be hard to make a much better version of this. We wanted to split some thing and we didn't want pizza cause we knew we were having pizza for dinner so we decided to sit at the bar and order a salad. The bar was pretty busy. So, when we recently decided to meet at the Garden State Plaza for some shopping and dinner, I agreed to give it a shot. I had indulged in their famous Barbecue Chicken Pizza in the past, but it had been quite some time since my last bite. However, I was hoping to find a healthier alternative, so I scanned their menu ahead of time to plan my order. I noticed that they had a Banh Mi Power Bowl under the "Salads" section, and I decided that would be my go-to. We met in front of the restaurant, and we were thrilled to see that they had seats out in the mall, sort of like an indoor patio. We thought a table in that area would be much more interesting than being seated in the dark, indoor dining room. Thankfully, the hostess allowed us to select our table, and we settled in to look at the menu. While our server was very friendly, there were some errors in the execution. For instance, I ordered an unsweetened iced tea, but it never arrived, so I had to ask for it again. Also, it took a very long time for our food to arrive. Thankfully, I had some doughy focaccia bread and seasoned olive oil to enjoy in the meantime. When it finally arrived, my power bowl included quinoa, spinach, grilled chicken, red cabbage, avocado, cucumber, carrot, bean sprouts, scallions, cilantro, mint, and sesame seeds. It was served with a chili-lime vinaigrette and serrano peppers, both politely on the side in small cups. The colorful salad was very good. The chicken was just a touch dry, but, otherwise, each ingredient was super fresh. My family members loved their Barbecue Chicken Pizza on its thin, gluten-free cauliflower crust. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the service and execution of our meal at CPK and would consider going back there. We both decided to try it. We ordered sangria, dynamite shrimp as an appetizer and the thin crust bbq chicken pizza. Everything was absolutely delicious. I swore I wouldn't eat here again after a dinner here three years ago. Everything tasted premade and out of a plastic bag, not like the CPK I remember from Encino California. With that said I was pleasantly surprised! Everything was good and the service superb! I had the cauliflower appetizer, the Thai Crunch salad , and the Wild Mushroom pizza on thin crust! We've been lucky to have him every time we are there, and he makes the dining experience such a pleasure. Expect to wait for a bit; this location is popular since it is right in the center of Garden State Plaza. For being a pizza-centered restaurant, most of them are average at best. Whatever "meat" they used for their bulgogi pizzas is not authentically bulgogi. We enjoy their appetizers and options of pasta way more. We stopped in for dinner while shopping at the mall. We shared the new Crispy Chinese Dumpling Salad. A lot of great flavor. The dumplings were nice and crispy. We both felt it could have had a little more dressing. Definitely would order it again. For the main course my better half ordered the Chicken Tequila Fettuccine. She really enjoyed her dish, she shared some with me and I thought it was great. I ordered the Chicken Piccata, the chicken was excellently cooked in mine and had good flavor. We shared mine too. There is something about open kitchens as you get to see what's cooking at the restaurant is fresh. We ordered some Mexican pizza and replaced the chicken with avocado. Although it took several phone calls and in-person visits to book and confirm a date for my son's pizza-making birthday party, the actual event itself was a lot of fun! Angel did such a a great job making sure that our group of 30 kids and 20 adults were taken good care of. Ordered the avocado club egg rolls which were so good! Crunchy with a savory filling of chicken and bacon. We also got the mushroom pepperoni sausage and california club. Came here for a birthday happy hour. They have some great deals going on. From 3 to 5 on weekdays you can get a personal pizza and a beer for six dollars. Then during actual happy hour which starts at 4 o'clock, you can get half-priced drinks and starters. Peggy at the bar was wonderful. The tomato bisque soup was delicious, and complimented well with the bbq chicken pizza, which was medium size, so the portion was just about right, both items combined. Because it was crazy busy, it was difficult to get our servers attention at times, but she her best to accommodate our requests. Overall we had a good meal and will be back at CPK sometime in future. They let you split a pie in half for an additional $2.50, meaning I order two different pies and they made it while, which I though was ingenious lol. California Pizza @ Garden State Mall ..... A much better location on the 2nd floor next to Neiman Marcus. I always loved their cocktail drink menu, always delightful, and especially the flight of them ~ But, this time, something was off with the food. Either too bland, too salty, or oily. (Or maybe was it our menu that we picked ..... wrong dish??? Haha) Wild mushroom pizza - not enough mushroom this time. The dough was too chewy and stiff. Roasted veggie salad was too bland. Kung pal pasta tasted too much of oyster sauce Lettuce wrap, a delightful appetizer. But, they always give us not enough lettuce !!!! I looked around to see what was happening, and realized that there were 2 in the kitchen, 2 in the hall serving 10 tables, 1 at the bar. There were more empty tables than occupied. Today my family of 5 went in to CPK for lunch we were celebrating - and my son wanted cpk - so when we go up to hostess we ask to sit outside and she angrily and rudely said NO - there was no one sitting outside but she still said no. She then said follow me and put us in an awful table in the dark dining room squished between two tables that were taken I asked again can we at least have a booth and she again said no this is all that's available believe me the restaurant was not packed - anyway she left us rudely at the table and as we sit down and the table was disgustingly all sticky and dirty - anyway we got up and left as it was not the vibe we were expecting especially for a celebratory lunch that we ended up having somewhere else in the mall. read more
