Just don't feel the sprit of God there, the music is dead. There more worried about what the church looks like. You can be prayed for after the service in a prayer room, and I get it but when did it become so bad to walk up and get on your knees and pray why the pastor gives a sermon, why isn't is OK for the elders to walk up and began to pray right there for you, and your follow members If that is what is needed. Everything is so hidden and done backwards. I'm old school and love the Pentecostal way. I'm just a Christian a believer in God, and I know when you walk in the house of the lord you should feel his presents, and I don't here, again just so dead, and so is the music is dead! Great location, very nice people, would be interested to hear if they have groups that meet during the week. The free donuts every Sunday is a nice gesture but wish they would do something healthier like fresh fruit. The Bible does forbid gluttony and donuts every Sunday is not good for anyone especially kids. Yield not to temptation folks. Awesome church, just say no to the donuts. read more

From my visit in December 2019. I've been attending Calvary Chapels since 1988. When traveling if there's a Calvary Chapel in the area I try to stop by to attend service. This morning I was driving past Monterey and saw that they had a church so stopped in. Each Calvary is different so it's interesting to see how they interpret the gospel and how they treat visitors. I was somewhat hesitant because of recent reviews. What type of church would I walk into? As I turned onto Monterey Salinas Highway towards the church I saw someone walking and offered him a ride which he declined. Turns out it was the senior pastor, Pastor Nate Holdridge. Found the sanctuary, the greeters seemed friendly but they didn't go out of their way to help a new visitor. I love worship and it's always a privilege to worship with other believers. Every church does things differently, which I've come to expect but to interrupt the continuity of worship seemed to detract from the purpose of worship. I enjoyed the service. But what I found disconcerting was that Calvary Chapel Monterey doesn't use the church's website to host the teachings, as is typical of most churches. Instead, you have to go to the pastor's personal website to find the teachings. read more

Calvary has become the home church for me and my two daughters. There are many amazing things offered at this church such as Life Groups, Youth groups, childcare for events, Sunday children's ministry, a recovery ministry, women's groups, various conferences and great teachings by Pastor Nate and other amazing pastors. The 5th grade youth teacher, Jeff, is amazing! The staff at Calvary are welcoming, caring and dedicated, they love Jesus and it is helping me and my daughter's grow in our faith. Very horrible place!!! I attended the young adult youth group! Very awful experience, it was a mistake and regret coming here! First of all, I have autism and when I shared it with one of the leaders involved they didn't take it to heart enough or even tried to understand. Pastor Nate and his team warmly welcomed us as visitors. Our youngest attended the kids program and check-in was easy to register on the kiosk but I did need some help to be added as a new family. Kids are grouped by grades and we dropped of our girl with her teacher and team. Then I took my middle schooler to the youth group where I was welcomed by the staff and registered my daughter and family. Then my wife and I went to the main worship service where we were warmly greeted and found ourselves a seat in the front. The music was God-centered, biblically based and singable but we didn't know any of the songs as newcomers. They had an informative announcement video as well as a funny one for the men's retreat. Pastor Nate did a solid job teaching from Galatians and his reputation as an excellent Bible teacher is well-deserved. Our family enjoyed eating at the Grille afterward and were served well by the men from the Bridge ministry program who run it. Parking was easy and the staff and volunteers were top-notch. May God bless Calvary as they seek to share the gospel to everyone willing to hear. read more

I love this church. I tried a few other local churches but this one seemed very relaxed and accessible. They had a 6pm service which is really nice. The head pastor of the church pastor Nate is very personable and a very good speaker. I have fallen asleep in several other churches so being able to follow along and stay awake was a very big priority for me in .y church search lol. Anyways they are a nice group of people and I'd recommend you give them a try if you are looking for somewhere to go to learn or listen or pray. read more

I am very thankful for the consistency and diligence of staying on target of the verse by verse of the Bible. Calvery Chapel Monterey is a place that has many tools/ classes for the young and beyond to grow in the Lord. Of course, in doing so, it will also only help an individual... but you must participate, not sit on the sidelines... They won't bite!! Remember, perfection is only obtainable in heaven.The bible,fellowship, and prayer are conductors for everyone. Pastor Nate and team have a what seems to have overwhelming challenges to accommodate those who attend in person or through social media and in addition raising their own families...hats off & praise God to duties and tasks that are seen and unseen to allow all from muti- levels of backgrounds and to include their internal personal needs to come to a place where the target is on Our Lord and Savior. We attend Calvary Monterey and have been for a while...Very thankful for everything it has to offer and that our Lord gave the founders and others to include those who are with the Lord now the vision & drive to hear the Holy Spirit above the many unforseen challenges. My granddaughter and I attended the 2023 Good Friday 's service, I must say that the Cavary Chapel team did a wonderful job...Praise Our Lord & Savior!!. Pastor Nate brings the Word of God so faithfully every week. He teaches verse by verse, so if you are looking for a church to learn and grow, and not just a feel good message--come visit! Church is every Sunday morning at 7:30, 9:00, and 11:00 and 6:30. You will be welcomed by a greeter where then you will find a seat. We sing songs of worship for about 20-25 minutes. During worship you can sing, raise your hands, stand quietly, or even sit during worship. Next a pastor will welcome everyone collectively with some announcements, and then Pastor Nate will come up to teach. People are friendly, worship is great and the views of the surrounding scenery is incredible. There is also a restaurant on site where you can grab a cup of coffee to bring into church, or go for a meal breakfast or lunch before or after the service. There's also wonderful child care available from infants to high school with fingerprinted staff excited to hang with your kids while you worship! Yelp14/100 :) read more

I was raised Catholic and left the church at 18. I went without a church for many years. When I started realizing I needed a spiritual path, I found myself at Calvary. At first I really liked it. Everyone seemed nice and inclusive. Little by little, as I got to talking to people, I realized that they consider themselves exclusive and are very fundamentalist with little tolerance and acceptance of views outside of that. I've been flat out told "don't think that" and "don't believe that way." I won't get into it here, but some of the things they believe I find to be insulting to other religions and belief systems. If your views are more inclusive of all Christians and respectful of all religions, I would not recommend Calvary. read more

At home or in our RV travels, we attend Calvary Chapel. This is the 84th we have visited. We consistently find talented worship teams leading the congregation in contemporary Christian songs that are theologically sound. Verse by verse teaching directly from the Bible is Calvary Chapel's curricula. Godly men teach sound doctrine in a manner that is easy to understand no matter how complex the material. There is no manipulation of Scripture to conform to current worldly trends. Sound doctrine is adhered to. We always find our 'new church' at least a day in advance. Good thing; finding this property was tricky. Talked to a very nice assistant Pastor named Riley - possibility the worship leader - who assured us that they were a Calvary Chapel affiliate. The Sunday service with Pastor Nate was excellent. Congregation members were all friendly & welcoming. This was a great church for us to visit. It would be an excellent home church for anyone seeking sound doctrine. read more

This is a great church with great people. I really enjoy the way that Pastor Nate preaches (expository, verse by verse). The worship is great and the band makes it very enjoyable. They have great ministries including some for youth and college students. Pastor Riley does a great Job in the college ministry with teaching the word of God. Every other quarter they have these discipleship groups known as "Life Groups" and during the other quarters they have a mid week service known as "Life Church." Although this church isn't perfect (there is no "perfect church"), I really enjoy attending here on Sundays and would recommend it to anyone looking for a church. read more
