My partner ordered on the ($31) hidden combo menu: 2 chicken enchiladas and 1 shredded beef taco. Neither were available on the main menu. And he approved. The chips with the beans and salsa were good. The chips were superior. The beans were good. The salsa was decent. The service was great. Except the 2nd round of iced tea took way too long. ($12) The waitstaff were friendly. The outdoor seating was good. There was a nice breeze. Inside has nice AC, but it had a hint of cigar smoke . I got the short rib enchiladas. It was so disappointing that I didn't even complain to anyone at the restaurant. Two of us ordered them. And two of us hated them. Hate. The short rib was cooked well then ruined by all the dressings and things. The enchiladas were covered in a gross sauce and cheese that looked and tasted like a terrible quality Colby Jack. The sauce wasn't a green or red it was orange. I'm daring so I went for it. This is an example of doing too much but not enough. The people giving great reviews for the short rib enchiladas must be cousins of the owners. I'm super perturbed. Six of us at the table...no alcohol was ordered. Only one person liked her meal. And the black beans are lard laced so the folks who don't want pork and beans when they've ordered black beans should steer clear. The bill was high the experience was low. It's a no for me. Days later and I'm going to Javier's to get my lobster enchiladas so I can try to erase the memory of the short rib enchilada experiment at this spot. It's a shame because the restaurant is cute. He checked on us regularly, made sure everything was just right, and struck the perfect balance of being available without hovering. Great service like his makes a meal even more enjoyable. My cousin was visiting from Florida, so we came here for dinner. Her headquarters for work is in El Segundo, which worked out perfectly! It turned into such a sweet, memorable night. Since it's only minutes from my daughter's office, she was able to join us too. My cousin is a March baby, but we still had to celebrate her birthday! This time, we decided to sit on the patio, and I'm so glad we did. I knew we were going to be deep in conversation, so I asked if we could have one of their nicest, quieter tables and they delivered. It was lovely, with a nice breeze and much more peaceful than sitting inside. The food was to me satisfying. I ordered the two-item combo (beef hard shell taco + chicken enchilada) with rice and beans, so satisfying. They also start you off with complimentary chips, salsa, and beans, which were delicious. My daughter's camarones had HUGE shrimp, and my cousin loved her chicken and asada tacos. Drinks were just as yummy; a lemon drop for me and a pineapple margarita for her. We mentioned it was my cousin's birthday, and the staff kindly helped us celebrate with a belated cake, which was such a nice touch. Caló is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants down here in the South Bay. It's definitely a "treat yourself" kind of restaurant though, as it's pricier/more upscale compared to your typical Mexican restaurants. They're definitely aiming for fancy rather than homey. That being said, the vibes are excellent, with Mexican music playing over the speakers and warm mood lighting; the servers are exceptionally friendly and attentive; and the flavors of the food are nice and bold. The beans here are like crack, I could *not* stop eating them. And the short rib enchiladas were equally amazing, I wish I had more! Desserts are for some reason not listed on the menu, but when my family and I went for my mom's birthday, there was a choice between: churros, flan, fried ice cream, and tres leches. We chose the tres leches, which was everything I could've hoped for in this dessert, and we inhaled it before I remembered to even get a picture! Nice and sweet, soaked in milk, and dusted with a good layer of cinnamon. Overall, Caló is a strong choice for anyone looking for a fancy meal with great ambiance and amazing service. read more

I was a customer at your Manhattan Beach location on Rosecrans on July 12, 2026, and was provided my receipt at 6:20 pm,  and I am extremely upset about what I believe to be an unauthorized charge and the unprofessional way my concerns were handled.   My bill totaled $216.76, which I paid with my credit card. I also left a cash tip, so I did not authorize any gratuity to be added to my credit card. Invoice number on receipt 600700046. Our table of 4 was initially served by a Hispanic male waiter whose name I do not remember. I was seated on the patio by the parking lot at table 38. He told us that he was leaving and that Jessica -3620 would be taking over our table. However, my guest and I later noticed that he never actually left. Approximately an hour and a half later, as my guest and I were leaving the restaurant, we saw him walking out at the same time. I jokingly said, "I thought you had already left," and he laughed and replied, "Just now."   When I checked my bank account on the morning of July 14, 2026, I discovered that my card had been charged $249.76 instead of the authorized $216.76. An additional $33.00 had been added to my credit card without my knowledge or authorization, despite the fact that I had already left a cash tip.   On the morning of July 14, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., I called the restaurant to report the issue. I spoke with a supervisor named Sarah. Unfortunately, the interaction was very disappointing. Sarah repeatedly interrupted me while I was explaining the situation, was dismissive in her responses, and displayed an unprofessional attitude throughout the conversation. I requested a copy of the original signed receipt showing the amount charged and my signature. Sarah stated that she did not have access to a copy, refused to take my email address so it could be sent later, and simply told me that someone would call me back. As of this writing, I have not received any communication.   Based on these circumstances, I am very concerned that an unauthorized charge was added to my credit card after I left the restaurant. I request that your management immediately investigate this matter by reviewing the signed receipt, the point-of-sale transaction records, and any available surveillance footage. I also request that the unauthorized charge be refunded promptly. I am retaining my receipt and am prepared to dispute the charge with my credit card company if this matter is not resolved quickly. If necessary, I will also file complaints with the appropriate consumer protection and law enforcement agencies.   I encourage your management to take this matter seriously. Customers should always review their receipts and credit card statements carefully to ensure that the amount charged matches the amount they authorized.   I look forward to your prompt response and resolution.    Claudia C. read more

We stopped in after a work event for dinner. A table of five women. When we arrived no one was waiting to be seated. Soon after, several people began showing up and a family was seated before us. Not sure what that was about but the service is extremely terrible in the patio. Took almost 4 hours to dine and exit after pay. This used to be one of my favorite places to go. I'm not sure if there's new staff or management but the service and food was subpar. To start the host was not friendly whatsoever.Our wait time kept getting shifted and ended up waiting for about an hour. They sat us down and didnt bother to sweep under our table that had food all over. I had to ask for them to sweep. Our waitress was trying to be nice but it felt like she didn't want us there. I had the short rib enchiladas that were not as great as people had reviewed. In the past we had a manager apologize & gave us a gift card since the kitchen took so long for our food. The taste was great, there were adequate amounts of sweet, tangy and the grilled chicken added a nice fire roasted effect. The service was great, it was a little busy but not a bother as I was attended to quickly. Ambiance was a somewhat romantic and casual setting at the same time. You could come with a couple of friends and have seating on the patio which has a larger area in my opinion. The menu has plenty to choose from and didn't skimp on portion size. Only thing I didn't care for was the placement of my seat that was available. I was seated at a table for 4 that was right near the walkway. Meaning people constantly passing over and near where I was seated. The only other available seat was at the bar which I didn't care to sit at since I choose not to have a alcoholic beverage. Calo Kitchen in El Segundo is one of our absolute favorites and this team luncheon visit reminded me exactly why. The good energy started early. A couple of my coworkers had just been at the Beyonce concert and the vibes were high walking in. I went with my go-to, the fajitas, and they hit the way they always do. Others at the table had burritos and the shrimp enchiladas and everyone left happy. The general manager was on the floor and personally came over to greet us. She even remembered me from when my book first came out, and that kind of genuine hospitality is what keeps people coming back. Excellent service, fresh food, great flavors, and a wonderful atmosphere inside and out. I prefer sitting inside but either way you are in good hands. She really was a gem and extremely helpful and attentive. Tried the Beef queso tacos (birria) appetizer and they were quite tasty. Comes with 5-MINI tacos for $28. Based on the taste, I would definitely get them again. Price point wise...I don't think it was worth it. Also decided to share the Smokey Ceasar salad (with ribeye on top.) We were not pleased with this. It was just all wrong. The salad was flimsy and so was the steak. It looked good and based on the description, I thought that it would be full of flavor. It was not! Steak was also kinda rubbery and looked low quality. No one in the party finished it. This also was not cheap, so it was disappointing not to be able to finish it. As far as cocktails go, they don't miss here. The blackberry margaritas are the best I've had. Although it appears that the prices may have gone up slightly since my last visit, the food & drinks are overall good. I'll just stay away from the salads. Two cocktails each, two appetizers and a shareable salad (that we didn't eat), was $200 (pre-tip). A little hefty, so this is definitely a once in a while treat. read more

We were visiting Torrance and while we were out running errands I found Caló on Yelp so we decided to give them a try. It was a semi busy Thursday but we were sat immediately. Loved the ambiance, my husband said it reminded him of a restaurant we went to in Cabo. Loved the decor and seating. We were outside but I did go to the restroom and appreciate how nice the inside was. Food was ok. I ordered the short rib enchiladas with grilled onions on top. It originally comes with fried onions which I don't care for (onion rings yes, with a burger; fried onions on an enchilada? No). My mom got the Calo combination. I ordered the quesadilla kids meal for my 4 year old. Mine was a bit sweet. Rice was overcooked and beans were ok. But burned. My daughter enjoyed her food. Our amazing waiter did get her two complimentary toddler fruit plates which came with strawberries and watermelon. She finished those. For dessert, we got the friend ice cream and the churros. Was hoping we'd be leaving a 5-star review and had really looked forward to a first-time meal at Calo. We arrived for our reservation, but it seemed the staff wasn't quite ready to start the day, as some were still arriving and clocking in. The hostess asked what we were celebrating, and when I responded, there was no acknowledgment or response instead simply a point toward our chairs. We ordered drinks and appetizers, which were accompanied by sharing plates that had not been properly washed, with leftover beans and rice still on the bottom. Throughout the meal, our party waited for our one small bowl of chips to be refilled, while smaller tables nearby had multiple bowls left on theirs. We ordered a chicken salad that arrived without chicken, and when the bill came, we were charged for two salads -- one with chicken and one without. We also asked for to-go boxes but were not given the lids to go with them. Our waiter was apologetic, but unfortunately not very attentive, and there seemed to be little effort made to correct what had become an awkward experience. This place is always busy! If you can score a seat, grab it, you won't regret it! It took us almost three years to dine here again although we have tried to multiple times! We knew we liked dining here from the first visit. We should have planned ahead to dine here. You can make a reservation using the Yelp App. There's also a Waitlist option available when busy. Parking is in a free lot surrounded by other businesses, mainly eateries. It can be difficult to find a space during optimal dining hours. For finding parking and a table, it's probably best to come during off times. This last visit things aligned and we dined. We checked in with the hostess and she attempted to seat us outside without asking our preference, so at that point, we then requested a table inside. The interior is stylish & inviting. After being seated, chips, salsa, and a black bean dip were brought to us. These are the best chips! They're thin and have a great texture. I would return for this round of complimentary starters! TIP: If you want spicier salsa, you can order some Habanero Salsa. I think there's a slight cost for it. Our first visit was in 2022 and we had the Seafood Trio, Pork and Pineapple Tacos and ended with the Fried Ice Cream. Fast forward to 2025, we got Chile Verde and Calo Combination with Three Items: Carnitas Chile Relleno, Pork Tamale, & Crispy Beef Taco with Esquites. All the food was done well and tasted delicious! Their tortillas are freshly made. On both visits we ordered the Fried Ice Cream, but I think the first one we had was better than the last one. In my memory, I remembered the exterior as being crispy, adding a beautiful texture. Hubby & I looked forward to this again. Upon tasting it recently, it wasn't quite how I remembered it to be. The exterior was kind of soft, not crispy nor crunchy. After I got home, I took a look at pictures from both of my experiences and it looks like they changed the exterior coating.
