For years now, the parking lot has become a homeless camp/meetup place with abandoned-looking vehicles, people hanging out in their cars all day and night, and chop shop vans, so, in order to walk to the field or get to the main building on foot, you have to walk through an array of vans and cars (sometimes a few, sometimes several). There doesn't appear to be any security, and the area gets very dark, empty, and isolated-looking in the evening. There are at least two designated homeless parking facilities in San Jose that also provide services, food, case management, and so on. At the very least, if the Cambrian Community Center is going to permit all this going on in the parking lot, they should provide additional security and lighting. read more

Covid has resulted in me doing a lot more outdoor activities. My quest to try out all the parks in the area brought me here. It's a big community center with newish buildings and a lot of activities here based on the reviews which is great. However, avoid the park especially late in the evening. There were several homeless folks who were hanging around and it did not feel safe. This is a complex issue and my heart goes to them. I would avoid coming here if you are single or a family. read more

Terrible experience with the soccer class offered at the center - our child is unsure if he would like soccer so we asked for a trial class to assess his interest. The administrator at the community center said this is not allowed and we have to pay the full enrollment fee without an opportunity of a refund if our child does not like it (note the class is only 1/3 full). The inflexibility and lack of thoughtfulness clearly explain the low enrollment. We'll attend a more welcoming and accommodating soccer class somewhere else. read more

This is a great place for volleyball. My son enjoyed playing on the advanced level "pick up" team on evening. We learned that regulars come an hour early to get a spot. Lot's of friendly and passionate volleyball players of all ages (starting at teen and going up to senior citizen). This place also has a nice fitness gym. The staff is friendly. The hours work for us (8 am to 5 pm weekdays). Good selection of cardio and strength building equipment. The value is incredible- $100 for the year, or a daily drop in fee that is very reasonable (I forget what it is). read more

Summer camp for age 5-8 through San Jose rec. We weren't thrilled after we found out they have up to 60 kids in one large room with 6 activity leaders. The kids sit on the floor, no chairs, in a row according to their age group. Some of the activity leaders were quite strict , cold, into meting out punishment (ie everyone loses all their rewards accrued in the morning at the end of the day!) and not the warm fuzzy type, which is what I and my child prefers. Pros: great a/c, use of the gym, nice team leader Peyton? but maybe she was too nice to her team bc some I thought took so much pleasure in taking away rewards from the kids and telling the parents the rules. The price is cheap comparatively with the number of hours included. Good for working parents and outgoing kids, not for sensory kids bc of the very loud, noisy environment. Recommend to my mother friends?: Nope bc they are super picky Otherwise, I would recommend to 6-7 year old active kids who don't need the warm fuzzies & need discipline& parents who are looking for a deal price-wise. read more

Another park bites the dust. This park is now homeless housing as well. The only reason to bring children here, might be for drug education. I knew what the needles by the basketball courts are for, I know what the broken mirror and straw is for near the swings. I saw some sort of plastic containers with blue liquid in them, google says drugs but the parts department think it's a child's drink container. I hope so. So I guess it has three parks near by: Camden Park, a Dog Park, and a place called Butcher Park-- a great place to meet my Bumble dates. They have a Multi-Purpose Room, Dance Room, Fitness Room... based on the people outside they might need a Panic Room. I kid. There's also a Gymnasium, KidsZone, Youth Center, Classrooms and Meth Lab. Oops, sorry: Computer Lab. For kids they have After School Programs, Elementary Sports Leagues, Youth Center, Teen Sports Leagues, Camp San Jose, Specialty Camps, Aquatics, and the Free Candy Van. Please stay away from the Free Candy Van. For adults they have Leisure Classes in Arts, Music, Health, Education Fitness Center, Drop-In Gym, Adult Sports Leagues, and Aquatics, that are, alas, Cocoon-free. For people over 50, they have Senior Recreational and Nutrition Programs. And defibrillators. 195 parking spaces. I didn't count them. I am not Rainman. It's on their website. Classes include action movies, aerobics, animal training, ballet, basketball, bridge, cartooning, crochet/knitting, coding, dance, drawing, engineering, fitness, guitar, Hawaiian dance, jazz dance, Legos, Minecraft, outdoor camp, piano, preschool, public speaking, robotics, science, singing, summer camp, swim, tap dance, 3D printing, ukulele, wheelchair basketball, writing, and alphabetizing, which I took!! I go for Pickleball, 630-830 on Monday and Wednesday nights. At 48 I'm the youngest one there. It's fun. Not the sport; it's fun to yell "Bingo!" and make them all instinctually release a disappointing sigh. read more

Been coming here for the past year as a newly moved to the area. What a nice center and the staff are just stellar in every way. We've enjoyed the pool though I wish there were more time for free swim as it is almost nill for time - which is why its this review 4 stars instead of 5 stars. They have lovely grounds, free programs/classes/events and it is so easy to get to and park. I feel lucky to have such a great resource in my neighborhood. read more

Review for volleyball: I came here on a Thursday with a group of friends to play volleyball. It cost $5 to play from 5:00 -8:30pm. After paying at the lobby, we were able to walk to the gym. I noticed 2 empty courts and 1 packed with players. Me and my friends decided to play on the court near the door. We were only able to play for 5 minutes, before some guys kicked us off the court. I thought it was really rude! Since all the courts were taken, we were all waiting on the side for a court. I really thought we wasted 5 bucks, and we won't be able to play at all. When the middle court finally opened up, we quickly grabbed it. Later on, I realized the court near the door was for intermediate players. Those guys could have been nicer and told us. It was our first time at the Camden Community Center, so we didn't know which court is dedicated for beginners. I like the Campbell Community Center better, since there is always 1 court dedicated for beginners. Some of the players here are fairly nice, while others can be rude. Me and my friends probably won't come back here for volleyball. Even though we are beginners, some of the players can be nicer about it. read more

We are in our 3rd session of dance at the CCC organized by SJ Parks and Recreation. Dance Force teaches the class. Andrea has been the teacher each time. She's great with the girls. She makes sure their all engaged in the class and knows when to move on when the girls get too distracted. Our 2 yr old tried the Tiny Tots class twice and is now doing the Princess Pre-ballet. She isn't quite 3 yet, so we had to get approval for her to join the next class, but I'm so glad we did. Our LO is also taking the Time for Twos class on Mondays. Husband was expecting a bit more teacher led preschool oriented instruction but said it was more like a Gymboree class with art included. The other kids seem like young 2's. The Wee Threes may have been more her speed. With regard to the center itself, it appears well taken care off. Parking is plentiful even on busy days. Facilities and playground are clean. People seem friendly. There are probably four or five community centers closer to where we live in South SJ, but it's worth the drive. read more

Send your kids to summer camp and they share the facilities with homeless. The staff told me "it's a public facility" to "call 311" they already "told the man he can't have his belongings out." Why can't they use the parking lot away from the children? Dog off leash, 2nd hand smoke...visibly disturbed people. I understand we have a homeless problem but it's so bad we are paying to send our kids to camp and this city allows this? (P.S. 311 did not answer). read more

This is a review for the "Friday Night with the Free Movie Series at the Camden Community Center" hosted by the Cambrian Park Kiwanis and Unleashed by Petco. Wow! I wish I had known about this series of events sooner. They had an opening band, free popcorn, free coffee (Thanks Peet's!). Backyard Flicks set up the movie screen and tonight we had the pleasure of watching the movie Despicable Me. We brought our own blankets and pillows and crashed out with the kids and some friends. What an awesome event. If you get the chance to go to one of these outdoor movie nights, it is wonderful. It's like the drive-in but better. As far as amenities, there was a snack booth (some free but some for purchase), a raffle, face painting, and restrooms. Since tonight was the final showing of the series, I sure hope that they run this event next year because now I'm a huge fan! read more

This is a very nice community center. Lots of things to do all year round. All the staffs are nice and welcoming to everyone.

Brought my kids here a few times for various events they had going on. My kids are 1 and 3, so these activities are fun for them. We came for the Halloween event where they had crafts and bouncy houses and another time for a disney movie event where they also had crafts and a bouncy house. Kids loved it. Both times were pretty crowded but parking was never an issue. Love that there is also a park in the back where the kids can run around. Maybe when the kids are a little older, we can visit the library too. read more

The camden community center has a cute little playground in the back which you might not even have noticed before. It's set pretty far back from the road which is nice. The playground is perfect for younger kids, but older kids probably would be bored. There is a picnic area right next to the playground as well. Downsides - the restrooms aren't near the playground and for some reason there are no trash cans by the playground, they are all over by the picnic area. read more

2015 YELP 100 CHALLENGE - 035/100 My family recently hosted a ginormous party for my great aunt's 90th birthday party here. I had very little to do with the party planning process, and only assisted with setup/tear down, but here are my thoughts. LOCATION: - Easy to get to, right off Camden and Union - Look for the big hand shaped statue in front! - Lots of easy, accessible parking BUILDING: - A little dated, but in decent shape - Nothing fancy, but did the job for our large family gathering - We had 300+ people attend and the space fit about all of us, I think the max capacity was something like 361 or some obscure number like that - Bathrooms in lobby - Big kitchen in the back - They had a bunch of tables and chairs that I THINK we used from them - Our party served beer/wine, so they required 2 off duty cops to supervise FINAL THOUGHTS: I thought the space was fine, but I didn't think it was super amazing or anything. Got the job done, but that was it. I know there was definitely a deposit and 2 staff who popped in every and then to check up on the party. They had their own janitorial staff sweep up and clean the floors after we finished tearing down. read more

This is where I come to do my laps before work. It has started to get really busy, especially now that the weather is getting better again. You have to share a lane with somebody, so don't be rude and hog a lane. It is mostly retired people doing their laps. I'm not that fast myself so I feel right at home. The pool is always warm and never too cold. Showers are provided and lockers, remember a lock. Not a shabby place for the price, $27.50 per 10 visit card. read more

We've been comming here for a few years now. And I def enjoy comming here for the swim lessons. THey're prob the cheepest i've found around san jose. but you need to book it in March because of the high demand. Another problem is there isnt much shade on days like yesterday where it was 102 degrees. besides that the school is great and the instructors and very friendly and helpful. I'm glad the Community Center exists and I'm really glad it's been redone. I remember it before the remodel. Blech. We don't use it often, because we're members of the YMCA. Recently I checked Camden's summer day/specialty camps for kids and was shocked to see that their camps (example: Jet Cadet) are $285 for 3 hours/day! For the same price, I have gotten my kids into all-day Archery camps at the Y that run from 8am to 6pm. And they contract with an Archery Range and the kids are at the range for 4 hours, then after that they're enjoying sports and games with amazing and caring counselors from the Y. We'll be adding an Art, Tennis, and Sports camp too now. After seeing the community center's camp fees, I realize now what a tremendous value we've gotten from the Y. I still love the idea that we have a community center in our neighborhood for people to use, I just have yet to find a compelling reason to use it for my family. Maybe we'll check out the movie series. read more

This is the old Camden High School and the building is quite old but well maintained., They offer a variety of community classes in addition to their facility amenities, including the playground, grass field, basketball court (indoor and outdoor) and the pool that offers lap swim, which is currently under renovation. Locker rooms are clean and have plenty of lockers, a swimsuit spin dry machine, and private showers feature soft water! Kick boards and leg floats are also available for use. I've been taking a Gentle Yoga class for Seniors for about 9 months now, and our teacher is wonderful! Joan knows the limitations of flexibility as well as balance issues for Seniors. The Weds. morning class fits all my needs. Last year I was a big fan of the swimming facility. Although run by a contract company, it offered long hours for lap swimming, which I enjoyed. This year the hours are considerately restricted for lap swimming, which is a shame. I have only managed to lap swim a few times this season due to limited hour range. Otherwise, the pool is clean and sparkling with a good temperature. read more

Besides the pool, they have an outdoor basketball court in good condition, youth activities (indoor and out), a play ground, picnic tables, large open fields for soccer, football, baseball, kite flying, etc... The weekends can get pretty packed, as I have had trouble parking here on the weekends. read more

My daughter attended the Kinder Prep program from August 2014-June 2015. She absolutely loved! Miss Dani was sweet, dedicated, attentive, loving, and caring! She definitely made the program such a huge success. There is a 10 student maximum and it was perfect! My daughter learned so much from this class. I'm so happy and pleased with Miss Dani. Cynthia F. / Camden Community Center I have been a member since last year in June when they had an $89 special for 3 months of their GX classes (Great Deal!) I got hooked and didn't mind paying the $10 for use of other centers. They have spin classes, zumba, boot camp, hot hula, other classes and but my favorite is Thursday U-Jam with ML! They currently have a special ($199) for the year which is quite reasonable, but it's only for one dedicated community center. Like I said for $10 more a month you can use any of the community centers for GX classes (which is what I do.) It does get expensive that way. What I wish they would do is run the GX special again because I don't use any of the other benefits, just GX classes. I have a membership at another gym that stays open later than 8:00 which is one of their big drawbacks. Also, they are closed for major holidays and most of the time closed for longer than just the holiday. What I've also found is that their personnel doesn't have an effective way of communication when an instructor cancels or is missing from a class. Believe me when I tell you I've found myself scrambling to other centers to get my exercise in. That means more gas and running around when 'really' I just want to get my workout in. read more

Overall, the front desk is very helpful. We love the Refurbished POOL. The problem is with San Jose Swim, 408-614-7665. They have cut the hours so severely for Adult Lap-SWIM, it's impossible to swim during the week. They are catering to the Swim Clubs/Teams and this is not a pool for Adults to swim unless they are RETIRED! Call and let them know you'd like to swim either in the evenings or the mornings! Lots of programs for Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Kids. We are doing My First Art Class and my son loves it and his sweet Teacher. Was a little bummed to have classes canceled on us since low enrollment though. Very Clean Community Center but no warm water in bathrooms or classroom. Also do not like the playground by the field. Reserve for Birthday Party - When HELL Freezes OVER... My wife and I are trying to do a birthday party for our kids. We saw that Camden Community did these. My wife was directed to the person in change (Linea?) She was rude and said she didn't know if she wanted to do this anymore. My wife came back a 2nd time. Same thing. (An these people have JOB????).. She left 2 messages and they were never returned. Finally we spoke to a person in a different group who after 3 phone calls, returned the call. She was nice, but the place was very overprice. Pay an employee 59.00 per hour to WATCH our party??? So we finally got on the phone with the supervisor. He could care less. He was just punching the clock too. In a word... Don't ever BOOK anything at Camden Community. They don't car about you.. Until they restaff the entire place (with exception of Marta), then the place doesn't deserve our tax dollars. So the 1 rating was way more then I wanted to leave. read more

I am writing this review especially for the piano classes at the Camden community center. The current piano teacher from noteworthy leave the kids in the middle of the class and walks to the office to finish her administrative duties. So she barely just explains what they have to do and leave them alone to practice. And these kids are 6 years old.She has done this almost every class this quarter.This is totally unacceptable. Just enrolled in my first class at Camden Community Center -- a fitness class for "Active Adults" (seniors). The instructor is great: she knows her stuff and understands and accommodates the widely varying levels of fitness of participants. After just one class, I found the seniors here are much friendlier, welcoming, and down to earth than their counterparts at Almaden Community Center were over the course of a year. Camden's physical infrastructure isn't quite as aesthetically pleasing as Almaden's, but I'm glad I decided to branch out from Almaden ... if for no other reason than the people and atmosphere here. read more

This review is especially for summer aquatic program they conduct every year during summer in their open pool area. i have hardly seen the pool managers there when the session is on going. Some parents just hog the showers with their items and will not let those kids who finishes first. I have complained many times in the front office about this and they were able to put some sign on each doors which no one cares to read. i hate dealing with some moms who are so rude if i explain the rules to them politely they will just shut the shower door in front of my face. Tired of dealing with these kind of craps. I suggest if they could send some supervisor every half hour to visit the shower rooms it would be great. This time i didn't enroll my kids just because of this only reason. BTW the instructors are awesome!!! read more
