I accidentally attended a meeting in this center, which was organized by a local church. Camden Seventh Day Adventist church. I really liked it, the location is very convenient. There are mountains around. I recommend viewing and attending events

What is this? 40 of them near the playground.

Another park bites the dust. This park is now homeless housing as well. The only reason to bring children here, might be for drug education. I knew what the needles by the basketball courts are for, I know what the broken mirror and straw is for near the swings. I saw some sort of plastic containers with blue liquid in them, google says drugs but the parts department think it's a child's drink container. I hope so. The homeless socks and uneaten food all over make it that much homier.

The Almaden Winery Community Center (AWC) is located at the Old Almaden Vineyards site which was…read moreCalifornia's oldest winery* (est.1852). Here Charles LeFranc made the first commercial planting of European Wine Grapes in Santa Clara Country from cuttings he had brought over from his native France. Almaden Vineyards still exists today but it has relocated to Madera, CA (go to http://www.almaden.com for more info). The Community Center Building is the old residence building and the actual winery itself is still there, but is fenced off and unavailable for tours, at this time. The AWC received California Historical Landmark status in 1953. The AWC isn't open for anyone to just saunter into despite the "Community Center" moniker; it's only available for party and event rentals (please see my tip or the CSJ website for rental info). The grounds surrounding the AWC have a relatively well-manicured garden; interesting architecture; and a children's park (http://www.yelp.com/biz/almaden-winery-park-san-jose) There are also some picnic tables on-site if you want to enjoy a meal at the Vineyards. I visited the AWC during the Winter but need to definitely come back in the Spring; there's a Rose Garden and Grape Vines that would be really neat to see in full bloom. Unless you've been lucky enough to have hosted, or been invited, to an event at the AWC I would still recommend for you to come down here on a Spring day and enjoy this hidden, and historical gem. The whole thing can be done in about an hour and I recommend you bring a lunch. *CA State Historical Landmark #505

Review #160 - 2017…read more This was our first time coming to the Santa Clara Christmas tree lighting ceremony. We had a really hard time finding park because the parking lot was reserved for staff members only. We eventually found street parking a few blocks away. By the time we got to the park, it was already nearing the tail end of the fireworks, but we still got to enjoy a few minutes of it. The place is actually quite crowded and the booths by the entrance were pretty poorly set up in my personal opinion. They weren't spaced out enough for people to actually make their way through, especially when there are people who want to stand at the booths and browse. It is definitely not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Pushing my daughter's stroller around was tough and I saw a lady with a wheelchair was practically struggling to get from one place to the next. The line to see Santa was too long so we didn't get to take a picture with Santa. The live music was enjoyable and ice skating rink was a nice addition. Lots of first responders were present as well...

Don't be confused with the other two dropoff boxes that are not sponsored or represented by the Salvation army. Those green ones are scattered all over San Jose and probably the Bay Area but I didn't want to donate my old clothes to them. It is also not a center in the sense that there is a building that you walk inside of. There is simple a truck trailer with a ladder to climb up and assume you toss your clothes in there. I've been here before and seen someone stand outside but you can't really tell they are part of the Salvation army and there are no signs to say whether they are "open". Business hours say 9 to 5 but shouldn't drop off boxes be 24/7? The photos are extremely confusing and are probably the same ones that they post to other Salvation army places. Whoever runs this location should probably update the photos and indicate to yelpers or people who are looking to donate how the process works and how to actually donate clothes and other items. I've attached some photos that I took so hopefully its a bit clearer on what this place is like rather than the photos shown. I came after "closing" but they had a sign that mentioned that no one was there.
