9/24/22: Visit! Village of Greenport is adorable!…read more Took the Shelter Island ferry over to the '22 Maritime Festival. We boarded a replica of the Amistad ship. A narrator gave us some of the ship's history. We walked around the festival. Everyone was in a good mood. Lots of cool kiosks with a variety of goods and "Cheer" were for sale. Purchased some lovely lavender from one of the kiosks. : D We stopped where ironworks were demonstrated and beautiful rustic ironwork crafts were sold. (Please check out my pics). Lots of cute shops, pubs and restaurants in the Village of Greenport! A carousel is in the port too! Definitely would return!

Sail your boat or take a yacht and explore Shelter Island and Sag Harbor nearby on the Peconic Bay. Best wineries and vineyards are here on the East End of New York. All very good. Enjoy!

The staff were great and the inside of the restaurant was big inside and we were able to hear the game with no issues. I ordered a beer, the brisket, Mac n cheese, and the tallow fries. All of the food was awesome! The Mac n cheese was some of the best I have had out at a restaurant. The brisket was juicy and the bbq sauce was tasty! The fries were good as well and dipping them in the cheese sauce was wonderful! Overall great meal and awesome place to watch the game!

My turkey was cold and the coleslaw had no seasoning, just a lot of mayo. The bbq sauce had a weird, unpleasant taste. My kids chicken and fingers and French fries were fine. The kicker was that their 2 bathrooms were out of order. I wasn't aware of this until my 4 year old needed to go. After seeing the signs on the doors, I went up to the counter to ask if there was a working bathroom. He said "No. You can go across the street." What? There's a bar and a restaurant across the street. The restaurant was closed. The bar may have been open. In any event, Green Hill should have told us they didn't have a working bathroom and should probably have been closed until they were fixed. I believe that's a health code violation.

He said the museum displays will not be fully completed until next year. I am an artist so I appreciated all the artwork from the Oysterponds artist -William Steeple Davis. I also liked the personal relics from the descendants of the area - photographs, documents, jewelry, fishing relics from the 1800's. Beautiful grounds. We were there about an hour. There are no parking restrictions - park in the street. People don't realize what was here on Long Island before highways and big box stores. You need the past in order to have a future. Good for small school groups, small tour groups.

I stopped buying books years ago. I, in fact, started donating whatever books I had collected over…read morethe years to Floyd Memorial Library as well as some of the other local branches. Why hoard books when it is probably nicer to let others read your selections. There are not many places I like to visit in Greenport. I live about 4 miles away from the town but rarely enter. The place is stupid. Anyway. I do like the library very much. It has a nice staff, a good selection of books - and if they do not have the book you want to read they will order it for you from another branch. There is a quiet reading room on the second floor. They also have occasional readings and art shows by locals. All good. Support your local library before it is taken away!!!!

But, what really stands out about the library are the people. Every staffer or volunteer I've interacted with has been professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and just so so kind. This library is so warm and welcoming really great!

This beach is the only one we found where you could simply drive up, park, and get in the water without spending a dime. The swimming area is marked off by safety ropes. There is at least one lifeguard on duty until 5. You're technically swimming in the Peconic River just before it empties into Gardiners Bay. The view is of Shelter Island, and it's quite charming.

Horton Point Light is a lighthouse on the north side of Eastern Long Island, New York in the hamlet of Southold. The current lighthouse was built and the tower was first lit in 1857. The site is on a bluff 60 feet above Long Island Sound. The tower was automated in 1933 and is now operational. The tower is 58 feet high with the focal plane of the light being 103 feet above sea level. The tower is white with a black lantern and a copper dome. The light has a slow green flash every ten seconds. The lighthouse was a commissioned by George Washington himself in 1790 though the land was not acquired until 1855. It is still an active aid to navigation and when it's open to the public, visitors can climb the tower. [Review 15313 overall, 815 of 2021, round number 200 in New York.]

Horton Point Lighthouse, operated by the Southold Historical Society, is an interesting diversion…read morefor an hour or so if you're in the area. The lighthouse is an operating lighthouse. There's a small local naval history museum on the ground floor open on weekends between Memorial Day and Columbus Day, staffed by volunteers who are knowledgeable, friendly, and warm. Visitors to the lighthouse may climb to the top of the lighthouse when the museum is open. Some dexterity is required to do this, including the ability to climb narrow, winding stairs, and a short ladder. Temperatures in the lantern room can exceed outside temperatures by more than several degrees. I surmise that visiting the lantern room may not be possible when the weather is extremely hot. There's a lovely pebble beach here, assessed by wooden stairs near the parking lot. Both the stairs and the beach, with large boulders strewn about, are very photo worthy. On a clear day, one may see across Long Island Sound to the shores of Connecticut. There's a set of picnic tables on the lighthouse grounds, too. Other Comments: - Waze gave us wrong directions for the last turn. A turn onto Lighthouse Road, which is the correct way to reach the lighthouse's parking lot, should have been the last instruction. Instead of doing this, Waze directed us westward past Lighthouse Road to turn onto a private road. - Parking is $5. Admission to the lighthouse is an additional $5 per individual, or $10 per family. The admission fee comes with a Southold Historical Society "Visitor's Passport," which gives the bearer one free visit to Society's Maple Lane Museum Complex. - Verizon Wireless signal here is wonky -- OK in some places, but non-existent in others. Be sure to coordinate with your group members in-person before you wander the grounds. - There are reasonably maintained men's and women's bathrooms.

In one direction you have a cliff where you get to look down at the beach and water... then if you turn around you get to look back at the main house of the vineyard. It is so vast in the distance and something about the reclaimed wood with red accents just got me going. SO BEAUTIFUL. We were able to walk right up to the counter and try the different options of wine they offered. The staff was super helpful in helping us decide what we wanted. (They had spritz options also!)

Tons of space and open areas to sit. They had a small menu for snacks. Very pricey but worth it for convenient since I'm pretty sure you couldn't bring your own. The wine was pretty good. I tried a flight but only was able to try some because the rest spilled. It was a very relaxing day. We had our 1 year old with us. They do not allow toys/balls for obviously reasons but there was so much space to move around it was great. Bathrooms were clean, a lot of parking. I would recommend a day here for sure.
