Secondly, the company gave me ample hours over the summer months when I first got hired, but bumped me back to 27 hours per week due to "lessened business," yet refused to allow the store manager to fire the person who was habitually showing up 1 hour and 30 minutes late for EVERY shift, and put him on for a minimum of four days per week. Third, corporate micromanages you, to the point where they expect perfection, but they cannot be bothered to train one assistant manager per shift to ensure safe work practices over the course of all shifts. Our phones were down one evening when I pulled a double shift, and I was told I couldn't keep my cell phone on the floor. A customer got belligerent with me when I asked for his ID for a major alcohol purchase (a minimum of 8 6 packs of booze), and threatened me when I refused his sale, as I was required by the company to ID ALL customers for tobacco and alcohol products. He continued to threaten me for over half an hour, while I had absolutely NO access to a phone to have him physically removed from the store at 3 Military Street, in Houlton, Maine. 10/10 will never recommend that anyone work there! That place isn't worth the minimum wage they pay.

The two pumps are older, but they've got gas, which is all that matters. Clientele is a mix --- families buying drinks or slim-jims for their first family hike, sweaty hikers grabbing the first Gatorade they can find, campers and fishers looking for worms or beer, tourists getting pink hoodies with vacation screen-prints. There's a little of everything, but little selection. Far from the best general store I've visited, but clean and high stock turnover; just don't expect bathrooms.

I had the opportunity to explore for a week around Fort Fairfield, Maine, and discovered there aren't a lot of choices for lunch. But, that doesn't matter, 'cause this drive up cafe is legit! I ate two lunches at R&J Market, and was delighted with their food and service. The first day I had trouble deciding if I wanted a burger or a chili dog, and was glad to know they offered a small, child size burger, allowing me to also order the chili dog without looking like a complete food hog. And this problem occurred: The burger wasn't really that small. I swear it was at least a quarter pounder on a buttered and grilled bun, that was delicious and perfectly grilled. The chili dog was a complete surprise! It was one of those super red, super tender dogs that look like a hot link, but isn't. And they served it on a buttered and grilled bun that was AMAZING! The next day I ordered the lobster roll and something called a doughboy. The lobster roll was filled with large chunks of lobster salad with their secret sauce and served on those buttery grilled hotdog buns. I enjoyed it! And that doughboy? Well, it was like an elephant ear drenched in buttery goodness, topped with powdered sugar and cinnamon ... talk about a guilty pleasure! I felt as though I was a boy at the county fair! This diner does not have to be as good as it is, because there is little competition. But that's not who these people are. These are people who believe in equality their food and love seeing the customers return with satisfaction every day. #TodaysDiscovery

I found the foam brushes need to be replaced, the one I used was really worn out and the foam being dispersed was diluted and runny, it didn't have a really foam-like consistency that you'd expect to see. I was really pleased to see that they took debit and credit cards, from my understanding, this is still unusual in the area. However, the system is different. Instead of swiping your card and being charged $x.xx for X minutes, you are charged for how long you take. Thus has its pros and cons. Clearly, you dont have to race the clock but if you are new to the system or forget to hit the button when you're done, you can easily turn a $20 car wash into a $30-$40 car wash like I did. Aside from paying nearly $35 on a self service car wash, my experience here was pretty great. If they could update their equiptment a little bit it would get 5 stars easy!

They have a deli serving sandwiches and wraps; traditional Maine style "Italians" as well as some specialty sandwiches. Their homemade bread is delicious and makes any sandwich a sure bet. They also have daily specials and soups, and a full convenience store selection of chips, snacks, treats and drinks. There is even a place to sit and eat right there in the store. Great customer service, clean facility and great prices, and you can call ahead and let them know when you want your order ready and can pick it up at their drive thru window. Yes, a gas station with a drive thru window, where you can order anything from the store! How convenient is that?!
