First of all, one of our activities and I have proof of this somewhere, was cleaning the barn stalls. Which I was "forced" to make the kids do. Second, the rabbits do not get proper care whatsoever. They live in a small shed with no hay and only pellets. They have pine shavings (which are harmful to rabbits) and rarely get time to run around. I have begged animal control to do something but the only thing I can do now is use my words. Rabbit teeth never stop growing, that's why they need hay. I will continue to call animal control until I know things are taken care of. I will continue to tell people what I know about this situation as it is animal abuse. Third, the small animal room is a joke. Those animals also do not get exactly what they need. It is a tooth and nail fight because the owner Jeff is completely cheap. Fourth, From 2019- now, I have heard several counselors tell me that Jeff yells at the kids during lunch. Or explains how horrible all of the food their parents give them is. Fifth, Jeff and I got into several disagreement about the scheduling with activity's for the kids. It was the same thing every day and the kids began to get bored like children do. Kids don't want to do the same nerf gun war every single day. Upon arrival in the morning your children basically help feed the animals which is great and all but this really isn't teaching them what you think. Send your kid to camp at the Hunts Center, Active Tracos, or Lifetime in Cary. There, your child won't be limited by what they can bring and you won't be supporting this.

When I picked up my son he said, "it's the best camp that I have ever been too." He has been to residential YMCA camp, Boy Scout Camp, and 4-H camp. He said, "the food was great." He enjoyed the stories, the cooking, and capture the flag. His only complaint was the session was too short. He would have liked to stay at Camp Flintlock longer. He wants to return again next summer.

Dressed in time period clothes, the people that came were nice, informative, and very polite. When working with kids that is not always easy, but they handled it with ease. Kept the kids interested, lots of fun things to do that were even interesting to me. They kept it at a level that was just right, the music was fantastic for beginning to end. These fouth graders had a blast and were kept entertained the whole time. My favorite however was the candle making, tho i did learn something at every station as i am sure every child did also, it was the candle making that was my favorite. The children were able to take home the candles, and many other items they made through out the day while the learned that lesson. Which included candle making, necklace making, rope braiding, old time games, dancing, quill and ink writing, and dress up(both boys and girls) There was a total of about 7 stations all together not including the begining and the end. They do offer a gift shop for all price ranges most not over ten dollars. I figured this went to support their program. The ending they shot two cannons and had pop quizes with prizes for the kids. Both the beginning and end children were able to hear the fife and drum, coming and leaving. I was happy with the whole experience. Despite the pandemic, they are working to provide recreation programs and open facilities indoors and out, to the best of their ability. I enjoyed touring Benson and seeing ball fields, soccer fields, picnic shelters, the band stand home to summer concerts as soon as they can return, municipal park, sand volleyball, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard courts, playgrounds and the future site of a rehabbed space for a community center. While the Benson Civic Center at 1204 North Johnson shows its age, it was well maintained and designed for more active times. The weight room and cardio equipment are open with social distancing and masks required. The game room seemed so empty. There are two other under utilized meeting rooms due to the pandemic. The attached Benson Center for Active Aging was buzzing with volunteers at the clothing closet and also serves as a food pantry distribution site. Many virtual activities being offered as well.

I first heard about this studio from a parent of another kiddo in one of my daughter's track out…read morecamps. My interest was instantly piqued because I had been searching for art opportunities that didn't seem so basic for my young artist. Every other option (except one that pushed for full day when I wanted a half day opportunity) I had found offered for her age group before KidzArt had "cute themes" and was basically just drawing or painting on paper, nothing seemed special or specialized for that matter - I couldn't even find a class that offered basic sculpture with clay for my kindergarten kid! When I saw the course/camp offerings here, I was actually excited that this might be something that would work for my kid! There are TONS of different options for camps (both during the summer and for track out) for ages starting at 6 - the Town of Cary classes that seemed like they may draw in my child weren't available until she is 8 years old (the ones offered for her age group just seemed too basic for her abilities). I was thrilled to see that just after the studio opened and on my kiddo's track out there was an illustration and cartooning camp offered - perfect! So far, she has created a lot of great art: some in a sort of "wine an design" but for kids (without wine of course) style following the instruction of the teacher, and some free art of her own cartooning and illustration. There are many materials for the kids to experiment with here and an opportunity for free art time too. The owner and instructors are very knowledgeable about art and also work very well with the children of varying ages - they seem to genuinely care about the kids and get to know them. We also signed up for some classes here outside of the track out camp she is taking. The variety is great and my kiddo seems to find inspiration from the lessons as well as from the other kids in the class. I really wanted an opportunity for her to experiment with more materials and to learn some techniques she could apply to her own art - this studio provides exactly that! She's already learned some strategies with watercolor and shadow that have popped up in her other work (just like how after reading a specific book she will mimic the art style in her new art), and has requested time to work with clay which she hasn't ever really had a desire to do until now. She is really enjoying her experience at camp and definitely seems to be inspired by it! The studio itself is clean, open, and bright. The materials are well maintained, and it is overall a great place for young artists to grow! I'm excited to find more classes to continue to inspire my kiddo - she is also very excited to check out other themes here too!

My eight year old asked if they could come back for his birthday. The husband-wife team was professional, friendly, extremely patient and clearly passionate about the animals. The animals were all adorable and friendly and you get to touch all of them and hold many of them. Cost is extremely reasonable ($150 for one hour), no additional cost to come to our house in the Apex/Holly Springs area. They set up 30 minutes before and give you the option of a petting zoo style event or an educational half hour with touching followed by 30 minutes to interact more and hold many of the animals. We loved the educational half hour. The kids were fascinated by all of the animals. Don't opt out of the snake and tarantula, surprisingly those didn't feel as scary as I expected and the tarantula was even cute, he "high fives" everyone. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite animal. The bird was so sweet and kept laughing during the presentation. The hedgehog was adorable, as were the ferret, sugar glider and rabbit. Plenty of options for reptile-lovers too! Highly recommend.
