Cabins can bunk 8-10 personnel in each and there are adjacent bathrooms/showers. Great looking lodge for meetings and plenty of activities to choose from. There is also a "River Lodge" that can hold up to 50 people. Our group of 22 really enjoyed Paintball and the Super Swing and there are various games and other activities to engage in as well as athletic courts to compete/play on. Great trails to hike and if you are fortunate, you can see the Bald Eagles along the river trail. Very good facilities. Groups can either bring their own food or you can pay extra and the camp will feed the group in their dining hall which is pretty nice as well. Got to meet the Camp Director; Jon Classen, who was very engaging and helpful. Enjoyed chatting with him about the camp and its' history. If you want to check out the camp for your group; here is the link to their website: http://www.camprivercrest.org/

My group loved the variety of activities that Rivercrest had- climbing on the rock wall, going on the zip line, and swimming and playing in the Platte River. I'd like to say I'm surprised at these bad reviews but I am NOT after our experience. If your child is not with the "in" crowd they will be left out of barn communications, ignored, and not properly taught horse things. My daughter attended for a very long time and still could never safely tie up a horse even. A few bad instances include no one assisting a 7 yo find the proper girth for a horse she hadn't ridden in over 6 months resulting in over an hour spent tacking and only getting a few minutes of ride time. Another is not being told lessons were going to be running late and Ashley herself ignoring all communication from me but responding in front of us to another parent. These are a few examples of what we experienced for months and I should have left sooner. After our last encounter I didn't even find it worth it to finish the time we paid for I was so ticked. I wasn't stepping foot back there. I was also told it was in their contract to have a SIXTY (ridiculous!) day warning to ending lessons but I never signed a single contract. I would also highly recommend being cautious buying a horse from Ashley. It was my fault for not doing my own vet check prior because I thought these horses were cared for. We purchased a pony who came with what Ashley INSISTED was sunburn on her eye. We did everything to try and heal this "sunburn" which kept getting worse. Upon a vet visit we discovered she was actually going blind which resulted in her becoming super skittish and not even safe. She actually ended up giving me a severe head concussion when I tried riding her towards the end landing me in the hospital. So I was not only out over 3k for that, we were also out 2.5k+ that we purchased her for and Ashley was unwilling to help what so ever in that or all the vet bills we acquired in our care with this. The pony ended up being given away to a previous owner which makes me happy but what a huge waste of money at about 4k in the dump. I am also certain with our Pony when she returned to the stables to be rehomed that she wasn't ever being turned out. It's really unfortunate but for the HIGH cost of this place I would stay far far away.

Elkhorn Crossing Recreation Area - I backed my car into the tenting area so I wouldn't have to walk far while setting up.

Elkhorn Crossing Recreation Area is a terrific spot for camping. That's why I came here. I was…read moretraveling across the country and this quiet park situated about 25 miles west of Omaha, Nebraska was the perfect place to rest for the night. I discovered Elkhorn Crossing through the app on my phone called Campendium. Upon arriving here, there's a little "introduction board" posted near the entrance. I pulled my car over and read the sign with instructions on how to get situated camping. There was a small pamphlet/card to fill out. Included with this was an envelope to deposit $10 cash or a check into the drop-box. Then I teared off the receipt portion and attached it next to the campsite of my choosing. That was it. I was good to go! I'd just like to point out that Elkhorn Crossing is closed for 5 straight months out of the year from November 1 - April 1 which obviously makes sense due to the winter conditions. For me stopping on by back in August 2020...I had nothing but warm weather, lol. What I really liked about this Elkhorn Crossing was the amount of space and area to spread out on. So although when I visited back over the summertime there were other campers nearby my tent...they actually appeared far away. I felt like I had a big section of grass all to myself. Also...this was important. You were allowed to pitch your tent on the grass area so it made for a fluffy setting to sleep upon. Most campsites these days (especially the more primitive ones in remote locations) feature hard dirt grounds to rest on. For those campgrounds I use my inflatable mattress for padding. Some real good aspects to Elkhorn Crossing that I appreciated was not only the campground area being so spacious...but every site had a barbecue pit to cook including picnic tables. For anyone bringing food and groceries with them...it's the ideal place to enjoy a cookout. Also good was being able to back my car nearby my tent so this way I didn't have to walk back and forth far setting myself up. If I had to reveal anything disappointing, it'd be that there weren't any showers or restrooms on the grounds. Sometimes I get real lucky at campsites I pick where places actually offer these amenities. But usually I have to pay more than $10. Those types of campgrounds (mostly within RV Parks) cost more in the range of $25 - $50 for the night. But I am easy. I have no issues using the vault toilets. Although I never explored around this Elkhorn Crossing Recreation Area, I did check online a lot of other outdoor activities for having fun here. This included... - Fishing - Float trips down the river - Playgrounds - RV Camping - Wildlife Viewing (though I didn't see anything) I really liked the picturesque scenery during sunset. I sat back in my lounge chair and appreciated the views out into the distance. Goes to show how much space there was available here that I was able to admire an evening summer sunset. Overall, I very much enjoyed my time and stay for the night here at Elkhorn Crossing Recreation Area. It was a great pit-stop along my driving journey around the USA. I'd certainly recommend to anyone needing an easy going stop for the evening...this place is more than serviceable.
