Probably not ideal for the animals, and the touch tanks and looking tanks are set up the same so kids are tempted to dip their hands in all of the tanks. It's a cool experience but I could see why people are concerned for the sea life that call this lab home.

It's very clear that everybody working here has such a heart and a passion for the reptiles, marine life, animals, birds, that they help in represent here in the community. This annual fundraiser for Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is such a fun way for all of us to try to drum up awareness & support for the mission here while getting to have a wonderful time playing dress up & bidding on really cool things at the silent auction. This year alone in our area they helped take care of hundreds of stunned sea turtles when the weather got well below what it typically is persistently for this area and that mission alone is more than worth heading over for a visit getting to learn about the wildlife in this area and supporting their endeavors! Not to mention the fact that there are so many, very interactive ways for both adults and kids to be entertained here while learning about our local wildlife & conservation!

The IMAX staff was wonderful; very accommodating. It has been quite a number of years since I last visited the IMAX Theater to catch a show. I didn't remember how cramped the seating was :o), though the seats themselves are comfortable. Once seated, best to stay seated until the show is over; otherwise, it will be quite a task to get out, especially if one is seated in the middle of the row and the row is completely filled. All in all though, aside from the tiny inconvenience regarding the lack of space between seat rows, I think everyone pretty much enjoyed the show and the setting. Note, the documentary is on Youtube as well! I also want to give a "shout out" to Mission BBQ for providing a complimentary meal for those attending the documentary. The food was delicious; the meal consisted of: coleslaw, baked beans with brisket, mac and cheese, sausage, pulled pork, brisket, cornbread, buns - along with tea (sweet and non-sweet), lemonade, and water! I've never been to a sold-out event here and, frankly, I often forget this is an option. That said, it's the best screen in the county - and if you're really looking for the larger-than-life experience, this screen yields a beautiful IMAX experience. It's no Warren Theaters IMAX - but then again - there's only one of those (in Wichita, not in NYC!).

And there is engineering to help the lighthouse survive the severe weather that happens often on the coastline. I arrived during hours when the lighthouse shop was closed but there's still some stuff to see outside. It's a nice park setting with parking, some picnic shelters and even a playground. The Crooked River Light was built in 1895 and replaced three separate lighthouses on Dog Island that were destroyed by storms. The lighthouse was painted in its current color scheme in 1901, the lower half white and the upper half red with a black lantern room. This lighthouse is currently active with an acrylic glass at the top that is a replica of the original Fresnel lens. I have recently taken to collecting lighthouses along my travels, keeping them in a Yelp collection at https://www.yelp.com/collection/GLWJhPZloUBCLUFSYgLw4g. You can climb the 128 steep steps to the top for a stunning view of the coast and surrounding forest. Tower climbs are $5 per person, and are usually available Wednesday through Saturday. Tallahassee served as Florida's First Capitol because it was located midway between St. Augustine…read moreand Pensacola. Lawmakers needed a central location as the journey from east Florida to west Florida was treacherous during the early 1800s. On a mission to find a mutually agreeable location, two sets of explorers met midway at former abandoned Native American settlement known as Anhaica. This became early Tallahassee which means Old Town (Talia+Hasi) in Creek/Seminole. The first Florida Capitol was a log cabin built in 1824. One hundred years later, a temporary replica was built. Another temporary full sized replica was built in 1974 for the sesquicentennial celebration. My dad was on that committee which inspired him to advocate for building a permanent replica for the bicentennial celebration in 2024. It was so interesting to hear about the process of building this most recent First Florida Capitol replica. So many people donated their time and energy. From sifting through historical records, to creating authentic floor plans when few existed, to donations of logs, to getting permits, it was a challenging to bring this project, a dream for my dad, to life. Having grown up in Tallahassee, I have always loved Florida history. It is nice to see a piece of history being brought back to life and to have my family play a role in that legacy. Florida is so different from when my grandparents moved to south Florida a century ago in the 1920s. I am happy to see history preserved while the city and state continue to grow. #2900

There are walking paths that loop around and through and must go for several miles. They have a small amphitheater in the middle where I'm sure there are performances and concerts here and there. A big splash pad is on one side, and I know the kiddos love that especially on a warmer day. They have a big playground on the other side, and there are some bathrooms as well just in case. Intertwined are some pond/ creek areas that add to the beauty of this park. It's a super lovely walk around, and my favorite part are the pillars towards one end that tell the history of Tallahassee- racial tensions, civil war and repair and more. It brings more light onto the capitol city and its roots.
