Two of our three kids had their first sleep-away camp experience last summer at Greenwood Trails…read more It was actually the first time they had been away from home for more than a few days for any reason, so we were all a bit anxious--to say the least. I started to relax at the drop-off, when the kids were somehow whisked away in a happy hoard and never looked back. I fully relaxed when we had our phone call with the kids after the first week, and they breathlessly told us all about how much fun they were having and reeled off the names of all their new friends and didn't mention a word about missing us. When we picked them up a week later they acted like seasoned, independent campers -- eager to show us around the place and to tell their little sister that she HAD TO go next year (she was sold -- and all three will be attending together for the 2022 summer). There was not a single complaint. Our kids are VERY different from each other, and they both found plenty of activities that they loved. For one, the highlight was the trapeze (she has actually continued with trapeze locally since getting home, after getting completely hooked on it at GT). The other was enamored with all the sports and competitions. He is also now on some sort of mission to do some crazy number of different activities over the course of what he presumes will be a long camp career, and thus earn some sort of reward involving a walking stick with bands of colored tape around it (yes, he is a little competitive). We have been nothing but impressed with this camp's administration, from our first interactions through to the last day pickup--these people are ON IT. This was especially appreciated last year since we were all freaking out about COVID going into the summer and we were putting a lot of faith in this camp. GT just consistently said the right things, with the right tone, at the right time to keep us at ease and confident that our kids would be in good hands. Then they delivered as promised. With all the chaos last year, these guys were like a model in organization, communication and responsible/rational behavior. We are super excited for our 9 year old to get to join her sister and brother this summer, and can't wait to see her come home a more mature, confident and independent version of herself -- just like her siblings did.

My Daughter talks about going back to camp the minute she is picked up at the end of summer. The amount of activities they have for the children keeps them moving and their minds working all summer. I am saddened to see that a bad review was left for this camp. Owen and the staff have been nothing but extended family to all the campers that attend Greenwood trails. Thank you Owen and Staff for making memories that will last a lifetime for my daughter. I will also be sending my other daughter to Greenwood trails when she is old enough to attend.

My son will be going to WA WA this summer for his 5th year!! His favorite activities have been archery and sports and playing Magic the Gathering during free time on the side porch of the beautiful lodge that overlooks our private lake. I love that he gets to participate in the same activities as I did (and new ones too!). 30 years later, the only songs I know all the words to are camp songs I sang around the camp fire all throughout my childhood summers.

Great way to get your kids to unplug and remember that there's a whole world out there to explore, and a world of people out there to befriend. This is a relatively small camp and the community is tight knit. My son has been attending for a couple of years, and his little brother can't wait until he's old enough! The director Lily is incredible, and spends a lot of time training her staff so they can provide the a fun and SAFE experience for the campers. Very high retention rate for counselors! Very comforting for kids to be able to return and see the same familiar faces. Funnily enough, with all of the fun things going on there, one of my son's favorite parts is the food. Meals are mostly from scratch, and they can accommodate allergies easily. Lots of choices at every meal including a salad bar. Way better than what gets served up at schools or other camps! There are usually at least a couple open houses in the spring - I highly recommend attending so you can check out this beautiful place and meet the director.

Project Oceanology gives hands-on boat outings geared towards families…read more These include lighthouse expeditions, oceanographic research cruises (summer), and seal watches (Feb/March). It is the only organization with permission to bring visitors to New London Ledge Lighthouse, which features incredible views from smack dab in the middle of Long Island Sound. Great fun for lighthouse aficionados and those who want to get out on the water! But be warned that other than the AMAZING views, there isn't much to actually see inside the house. If you're expecting a museum or activities for your kids, you might be disappointed and would be better off taking a science cruise. For the lighthouse trip, you will take a boat out to the 1909 working lighthouse and then be given a tour. Don't worry if boats make you nervous, this one is built to keep school kids safe and happy so you will feel very secure! The whole trip is about 2.5 hours and you spend 1.5 hours at the lighthouse. The architecture and history are really cool. The rest of the time you're cruising on Long Island Sound, which is a fun and relaxing activity in itself! The science expeditions are really Project O's forte. The super knowledgeable staff provide a hands-on experience you will love. You will be taught some basic marine science and geography of the area, then you take over as the scientists. Some of the activities include: collecting and testing water and mud samples at depth, visiting the captain to learn about navigation, and best of all: pulling in a trawl net full of Long Island Sound critters! If you are looking for a half-day activity that a gets you out on the water, familiarizes you with the area, is educational, and/or is just a little different than your usual tourist exercise: this is for you. You can certainly manage to stay clean and dry on these cruises but you will have much more fun if you go prepared to get wet and dirty! The boat's cabin is heated. However, you will want an extra layer of clothing for when you're outside. That's where all the good stuff happens. The price is very reasonable: just $19 for adults and $16 for kids. Make sure you call ahead... they will cancel the cruise if they don't get any reservations in advance and on popular days they can sell out! There is a very basic cafe for sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, drinks etc in the building but it's nothing to rave about. However, it's worth leaving a little extra time to wander around the immediate area. The building is located on the UConn - Avery Point campus which is beautiful and easy to walk. Project Oceanology also offers summer camps, scout programs, and birthday parties. I don't know why the website isn't listed here but there is lots more info at http://www.oceanology.org

This outdoor classroom programs problem is that they do not think about what the student would think is more appealing. The rooms were dirty and mice were found in many when we go there, some room were also very much nicer than the others which is odd because we all spend the same amount of money ( 400$ ). The showers were cold and the cleaning supplies they used was expired, plates and silverware were not cleaned properly either. The staff was nice for the most part other than the unnecessary talking about rules but some staff was rude and unfriendly, there is much more as well but if you are considering to send your school here for a trip think twice because the price was not worth it.

Camp was always an important part of my childhood growing up and they are always set on beautiful lakes. It also allowed all of our guests to spend the whole weekend on site and participate in the outdoor activities that we love. We researched and looked at over 30 camps all over New England and I truly believe that we picked the best one. The grounds are beautiful and all of our guests were comfortable. What really elevated Camp Lenox was the staff. They were all so helpful and kind. They did not hesitate to drive guests around in golf carts or run across camp to get something for us. One guest was on crutches and said that she felt like she had a tracker on her, because whenever she needed to go somewhere, a golf cart was ready and waiting for her. The staff also did an amazing job setting up the reception area for us. They cared about the details and took their time. It was very apparent that they had done weddings before. It was so nice to invite all of the camp staff who worked our wedding out on the dance floor with us at the end of the night to celebrate the special day that they all took a part in creating. A few special shout outs are in order. Luke, the director of operations, was our point of contact during the planning process. He was always quick to respond to emails and answered all of our questions. He takes a lot of pride in the weddings that he organizes and it shows. He made the planning process so easy and we trusted him fully. Victor, the camp chef, made incredible food. My one worry planning a wedding at a camp was the food would just be ok. Boy, was I wrong. I have friends who are still talking about his potatoes, and my wedding was seven months ago. All of the meals were delicious. The camp owners, Rich and Stephanie, were so welcoming and kind. They are very proud of their camp and wanted to ensure that each of our guest were comfortable. 10/10 would recommend Camp Lenox for your wedding!

Food was good and accommodated dietary restrictions, and sleeping accommodation provided a bathroom and mattress but no sheets (we brought sleeping bags and pillows). Everyone really enjoyed the big swing and Alpine tower activity. Our group was large enough that they split us up to do each activity - my group enjoyed the firestarting/survival shelter activity but not as much as the swing/tower. The swing is doable for anyone, and you can decide how high you are pulled up before swinging. The tower is challenging and only one or two of our 15-person mini-group was able to reach the top. Plan to wear clothes that you can move around a lot, and walk in the woods in. They did not have a large indoor meeting to sit 30-40 people, but we were able to fit in a room off the main cafeteria, with some people sitting on tables/the floor. The campfire at night was set up ahead of time for us, and they included materials for s'mores. The guide was sure we'd have enough supplies but we ended up running out of some parts (they're called s'mores for a reason!). The staff there ran a cultural sensitivity activity for us, which we enjoyed with everyone in our large group.
