This is a sweet little spot to stop on your way to Oceanside or San Diego to stretch your legs. The view is amazing. You can waves breaking (slightly), Camp Pendelton, military operations and wildlife. There are squirrels which you are not supposed to feed but everyone does & seagulls that people feed as well. The parking lot holds probably 15 cars but there is never more than 5. You will drive past this spot if you do not know to look out for the Vista Point sign. I suggest stopping and taking in some of the scenery. PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF. Once you are done the Vista Point exit leads directly back onto the 5 freeway.

What a great vista point! We stop all the time, and never tire of it. We bring shelled peanuts so the ground squirrells will take them from our hands. Shhh! We don't feed the wild life. (Yea, right) friendly little beggars are half of the attraction. The other reason to stop is the view. Great spot to stretch your legs. I have met some interesting people here. Often see huge military helicopters returning to base. Love this stop.

Looking down from the HCH, you can see the ocean, and all the mom and pop shops on Del Mar. If you were to venture inside, you would be pleasantly surprised to see how beautifully preserved this multi unit office building is! There are two entrances serving the Historic City Hall, and the offices all have unique and quirky touches to it that add a certain atmosphere of older times. I love looking at the old Spanish Tile that line the staircases, and the white plaster of the building's exterior. At night, the wrought iron chandeliers out front light up, and it gives the top of the old village a warm glow. Down a few doors is another chandelier building. These two gems are well preserved buildings from the past of San Clemente, in Spanish flavorings. What sort of town preserves these relics from the past? A cool town, that's who!!!

Every so often an Amtrak, Metrolink, or BNSF train will pass by. Its a well kept trail and perfect for all walkers. There was a detour and I had to walk on the beach. Good thing it was low tide. You had to time yourself between the waves. Today was the first Saturday of the month and there were two beach cleanup crews. The Surfriders were by the pier, and at Calafia Orange County Coastkeeper were working. This group also does cleanup on the 2nd Saturday at Huntington Beach tower 9 at Magnolia st. from 9:00 to 11:00. I got there late or I would have helped.. I already signed up for Huntington next week. Every time I come to San Clemente I enjoy walking the trail. After eating its a nice way to burn off a few calories.

The trail is not stroller friendly but is doable with a baby carrier. My four year old and 19 month had a great time on the trail. We came in a large group of Moms with their little kids. The trail is fenced off which almost gave the littles more freedom because they could only go so far. Please note, we have a lot of experience with our littles and they have learned to respect fences. The view allowed us to be at the same level as pelicans flying off the coast. Great experience with the location and the volunteer staff in the actual center. My only negative review is on the hikers on the trail. Please, if you see Mom's walking with their kids, don't assume they are idiots. Actually, we are trying to prevent our children from becoming mindless humans who look at screens all day. We hav researched the snakes, poisonous plants and are prepared with what to do if we encounter something. Thank you!
