5.0 star rating12/5/2019 Camp Pennbrook has been operating quality specialty camps for over 30 years and accommodates 150-200 campers per summer. During the past 30 years over 5000 children between the ages of 10 and 21 have atttended our program. We try extremely hard to provide every parent and camper with a memorable summer. As a matter of fact we have a 35-40 percent return rate because the girls love the camp and program and have a chance to be with their frends and favorite staff members. They also enjoy our great trips to New York City, concerts and Broadway shows. Unfortunately, while we always ask people to write about their positive experiences and how much the camp has helped their daughters, many people only take the time to write a letter whe there is an issue. The campers come home looking better, feeling bettter, and see their self esteem rise. These reviews do not even constitute a fraction of one percent of our camp population The parents who recently wrote negative reviews are not a true reflection of our camp and program. In one instance, an 11 year old camper was send home as a direct result of a bullying incident which the parents were in total denial about. We have a zero tolerance policy on bullying and attend frequent camp seminars during the year since this is an issue now prevalent in a lot of camps and schools. The family signed off on our "camper behavior rules" outlining this policy and after thooughly inbestigating the facts, the girl admitted to the incident and regretfully was sent home without benefit of refund. The allegations by this family are totally untrue and fabricated in an attempt to have their tuition refunded. The second letter concerned a family who registered her daughter for camp but apparently did not advise her daughter not only of the type of camp she is attending, and also failed to share with her the Camp Orientation Handbook containing the basis rules and regulations of camp. i.e. electronics policies, daily cleanup and inspection protocal and the description of a typical camp day. These reviews are not an accurate reflection of our camp and program and we are happy to furnish families with dozens of families who can be a source of reference in the areas in which they reside We spend the entire Fall, Winter, and Spring evaluating and upgrading the quality control of our program. We find that when speaking to fellow camp directors at these conferences and meetings, these situations rae now fairly common in every type of camp We would be happy to discuss these issues in detail as there are always two sides to every story." Camp Pennbrook is a great option for a camp with a classic feel and health/exercise focus. The camps staff is dedicated to both helping the girls reach their goals as well as providing a fun camp experience. The girls participate in activities that feature exercise such as sports with an experienced coach, as well as Zumba and Yoga with certified instructors. Exercise is only some of the focus though, as drama classes, cooking classes and classic camp activities like reverse scavenger hunt and karaoke are lots of fun for all the campers. The nutritionist on staff works in tandem with the dining services to provide meals that are not only very healthy and filling, but taste great as well. I am a grown man and all the meals are more than enough food for myself. Our nutritionist works hard to create a diet plan that provides lots of filling food while also keeping campers at an ideal calorie count so they can make the progress they are looking for. Any reviews that claim the food is not good or there is not enough food are objectively false and are coming from those who were dissatisfied with their experience because of their own personal struggles, nothing to do with the camp. Weight loss can be a challenging journey. Many of these negative reviews come from those who had a bad experience because they unfortunately weren't ready to face a challenge. That is okay, everyone works at their own pace, but there is no reason to bash the camp because of it. There is a focus on a healthy relationship with food, as classes with our nutritionist have a focus on the mental side of nutrition, including not only planning meals but having the right mindset about diet and fitness. Camp Pennbrook has a staff that cares and provides a great camp experience while also helping facilitate whatever goals the girls have, may they be athleticism, weight loss or social skills. read more

I started out as a camper for 2 years in 2010 & 2011. As someone who struggled with weight my whole life, this camp was an inclusive place for me to try things I never got to try with people in similar situations as myself. I returned again in 2015, where I was both a counselor and Group Leader for the teens for 4 summers. Having the opportunity to work with these girls who I can relate to completely was very fulfilling and I am grateful to have helped them on their own health and wellness journey. The body confidence you gain from summer here whether it's 2 weeks or 8, is unmatched. The girls leave with a newfound love for activities they previously would've been afraid to try and increased knowledge on how to fuel & satisfy their bodies in a healthy way. I attended Camp Pennbrook for two years as a camper, then came back later to become a counselor because of how much camp impacted me. I was initially homesick during my first year as a camper, but by the end of the summer, I didn't want to go home. After those two summers, I started the school year with more confidence in myself and in the healthy habits I learned. I also made a lot of friendships and stayed in contact with many girls after the summer ended. I really enjoyed our daily activities and especially the special events and trips we had. There's definitely a reason that so many of the counselors at Camp Pennbrook started as campers. I had such a positive experience as a camper and being a counselor allowed me to help provide that same experience to my campers. read more

I just signed up my daughter for her third summer. She loves going back to camp to see her friends. Her first summer was a bit hard since she had never gone to camp but after the first week she started to enjoy herself. Every summer so far she has returned home with a positive attitude and excited to go back. I recommend this camp to anyone as long as their kids are interested and willing to go in and put the work. Its unfortunate some of the reviews since our experience was so great. Parents if your kids arent ready please be aware that their experiences will be hard but at the end of the day the camp and the staff is there to help these girls during their stay! read more

Hey so this is my second year of camp and I love coming back and looking forward I was so excited to see all my friends and counselors from the previous year and Tokyo , Daphny , kyra and ran once I hit camp grounds to see them and I've been here since first day and I'm In week 5 and proud of myself and the way things have been rolling and all my Counsler are great and supportive and I'm in the debs and we chill In the lounge hanging out talking and bumping to music wit my Counsler especially Nasya Sarah and Tokyo but I love camp and it's a great experience I would definitely recommend it especially to feel good about your slef read more

Camp Pennbrook was such a great experience for me when I was younger! you could tell that the staff and Flip, the owner, genuinely cared about the well-being and experience of every single camper that camp to camp, and that is what made the difference for me. I struggled with making friends because of my weight growing up, and camp was one of the only spaces where I felt loved and celebrated for who I was not because of how I looked. Camp Pennbrook is a family, and I am so thankful that I got to be apart of it! Don't let other negative reviews sway you away from this camp! Our daughter went to camp this summer for the full 7 weeks. She had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the activities. At first we were nervous because she had never been away but the director assured us that after the first week she would fully adapt and get into the camp routine and thats exactly what happened. Grace not only lost 21 pounds this summer but she also gained new skills and made great friends along the way. The trips are also a big plus as most camps dont offer concerts and broadway shows like Pennbrook does. I highly recommend this camp. read more

Attended this camp in PA as a child, teenager and now sending my daughter to experience a summer with Camp Pennbrook. I really like the program and feel that it teaches proper eating habits, portion awareness and promotes physical activity. I made great friendships there that have lasted a lifetime and managed to incorporate lifelong healthy habits. Love this place!!! Camp Pennbrook changed my child's life. This summer was an investment in my child's health and wellbeing. My child was overweight and had no friends, only interacting with others online. Not only did he lose significant weight but he learned how to manage his video game play. She returned home with a plan to manage his online time the skills to do it. We got a return on our investment in spades! We are so happy with Camp Pennbrook and their counselors. Just picked up my daughter from camp this past weekend and she had a lovely experience. She enjoyed the activities as well as the exciting field trips. She was homesick at first but after the first week she loved it and is already thinking about going next summer so she can see her friends. Absolutely stay away from this camp. 2025 summer camp .... Counsellors not much older than the campers were left to deal with girls self harming, upset from lack of food ( difference between nutritional meals and starvation) and police being called due to lack of supervision from Senior Leaders. The 'manager' seemed only to care about the money rather than the staff and campers well being. read more

The staff and management did not address any issues my daughter had or even ignored our calls and emails. This was a really bad experience. read more
