The owner was in the "office" area, stated he was having some "ME" time. All dogs were unsupervised, including mine in the basement. We've been bringing our dog-friendly pit bulls to Camp Rawhide for about 10 years. All 3 of our dogs have loved Camp Rawhide! They're not fancy in any way, it's a just a small, family-style business for dogs. The staff is refreshingly not prejudice against any dog breeds, they're good with the dogs, and their prices are competitive - three features I appreciate in a doggie day care/boarding facility. Paul has been fantastic with our dogs, who have consistently come out of there tired and happy to see us, yet invariably wanting to go back inside for more fun. read more

Camp Rawhide is a nice, family-run local business and you can tell that they truly care about the dogs in their camp. I have been bringing my Lab there for 3 years now and I an tell they love her. They taught her well when she was a puppy and now they seem to look forward to her visit two days each week. They are very good with her, treat her well and get her nice and tired by the end of the day! It may not be a glamorous "state-of-the-art" compound, but it's reasonable, centrally located, and because it is family run, they have an actually stake in the success of the business. I know that as of mid 2016 they had been going through some transition (the owner had a medical issue), but the rest of the family is in charge and it all seems to be back on track now. Businesses go through ups-and-downs, but it's important that the community support local business through good and difficult times. That's why I am still a customer. That and the fact that my dog seems to really love it there! read more

Camp Rawhide is Skipper's (second) favorite place, after my lap. In his world, it is in a class by itself on the Silverado Trail (his vet, also on the trail, does not rank as highly). The management is friendly and loving towards our beagle, and they take a keen interest in his well being and happiness. We recommend Camp Rawhide to locals and visitors alike, and when our friends got their dog, a bigger, rambunctious labrador (also Skipper's girlfriend), they started taking her there as well. Skipper always bounds out of the car as soon as we arrive, and he looks wistfully back as we drive away. We are confident that Camp Rawhide is the right place for our dog while we're away. read more

My pup, Oscar, just got back from his bath and nail trim and he looks great! I am new to the area and checked out trusty yelp reviews to locate a dog groomer. Camp Rawhide took good care of my furry friend. I like that they accommodate my request for grinding his nails instead of clipping. When I picked him up his tail was wagging and I was happy with the price to boot. :) All around pleasant experience. In the future I may try out the boarding services. read more

I used Camp Rawhide this past weekend for a day of daycare / night of boarding for our puppy while up in Napa. I called somewhat last minute (day before) to check on availability and any prerequisites needed (vaccinations, temperament tests etc) and the woman on the phone was relatively helpful and made me feel somewhat confident about dropping Luke off the next day (note i had to call twice and email before I connected with someone). I filled out their boarding forms online and brought them with us when we arrived for drop off. Perhaps we caught them on an off day, but the young woman at the desk when we arrived seemed to have no clue what was going on. She simply asked what our dogs name was and took him inside - didn't request the paperwork I had filled out, didn't need any vaccine proof and didn't ask for any feeding directions. We gave her a quick verbal rundown and that was it (we had left the papers in the car). Fast forward to picking Luke up the next day - same woman came to help us and seemed equally as confused. We asked her how much we owed, since I'm pretty sure she would have let us walk out without paying if we didn't ask. We gave her the paperwork since I had already taken the time to fill it out - who knows what she did with it at that point. She also handed us Luke's belongings, which included his bag of food which was still about half full. Either they skipped a feeding or just didn't feed him the amount we told them to... All this being said, Luke seemed to have a good time and was completely exhausted the day after. Not sure if we would use them again - at $45 for 24 hours of daycare/boarding it's a decent deal (particularly compared to $70 in SF or a hotel pet fee of $75) but there seem to be quite a few options in the area to try. read more

I have recently moved to Napa and our dog howls when left alone. So I looked at different solutions and settled on Doggie Day Camp. I was recommended by my vet to go to Camp Rawhide. The dogs were grouped by compatibility for their play groups, taken up to the yard at least twice a day and stayed in a environmentally controlled kennel. Since our dog is 12 years old he needed a little extra care. They treat him like a family member and make sure that he is happy and well loved! He loves going to Camp everyday, is waiting at the front door and excited to go! read more

Will NEVER take our dog back to this place. Took her there a couple times for overnight trips and had no issues until this last time. She came home and her tail hair was much shorter than it was when we dropped her off. Her behavior was off for a couple days as well. I called and they said nothing happened. After inspecting it further, there were places where you could tell it had been cut because the hair was blunt. My fiancé went in to ask them what happened. He told them we understood if an accident had happened but that we just needed to know. Again, he was told that nothing had happened but that someone would talk to the other employees and watch the security tapes and get back to him, which never happened. Never again will be trust Camp Rawhide with the safety of our dog. read more

I was put off by the small, dark client area in the front. There's a door that says Employees Only and a window similar to what you'd find at a doctor's office, with the sliding glass. Nothing warm and welcoming from the start. I took my miniature long-haired dachshunds to be groomed. I specifically told them to just clean her up, and do her nails. Being she's long-haired, her ears were very long and there was the trademark long "wings" behind her ears. The gal gave her a pet and said "Oh, you're a little scruffy back here". I didn't get what she meant as my dog had/has no matting At All but I let it go. When i picked her up she had "puppy ears". All the long fur was gone. ALL of it! I didn't give her a good look over until I got her home because frankly that front area creeps me out! I couldn't believe they cut all her ear fur off!! WTH?? I called later that day, or maybe the next day, to ask them why they did this. I was told that that was what I asked for. WRONG!! I never would have done that! The long ears and fur are a trait of her breed and if they knew anything about dogs, they'd know to leave it alone! The only + to this place was the price. My dog weighs less than 10# and I'm tired of paying on the up-side of $100 to have her groomed. It's highway robbery, but what are you supposed to do if you need your dog groomed? I guess the search continues for a reasonably priced, competent groomer. read more

One of the better kennels if your dog likes to play with other dogs. The staff is friendly and accomodating. Some reviews have stated that the dogs were greasy and/or smelly when they were picked up. Our dog is always smelly and greasy because he plays with the other dogs. Being dogs, they naturally get plenty of saliva all over each other. Therefore, they are going to stink. If you want your dog to be pristine and smell like lilacs, don't take them here. If you want your dog to be bored, don't take them here. If you want your dog to have a good time being a dog, I would recommend it. We also recently left our lab with the owner for training for almost 2 weeks. She stated that he was rather stubborn, but we were very happy with the transformation. It used to be a struggle trying to walk him, but now he is very obedient and walks right at my side. He is also less anxious when other dogs pass by. I can recommend Camp Rawhide for cost-effective obedience training. read more

I'm leaving a one star only because I have to in order to post one. I made the huge mistake of boarding my dog's here on a vacation. At the time I was a Vet Tech, and the owner offered me a job when I went to take one of my dog's in for a "behavioral assessment", since he is a pitbull, she only required that JUST he come in for said assessment. I did, even though he is super sweet, and booked my appointment to board my dogs for a week. After seeing that they have no idea how to care for animals, I understand why she wants a vet tech there. I'm not going to go into too many details, but long story short, my pitbull almost died. I begged her to take him to my Vet in St.Helena, but this was her "day off" and she took her to her Vet in Napa. She said the vet there was scared of pitbulls and would not take a thorough look at my dog (who was coughing up blood) and sent him on his way with antibiotics and a diagnosis of an upper respiratory infection. When I called that vet later to get the full story, they highly recommended that he gets x-rays and blood work, which she refused to do due to cost. I called the office to get an update and the staff said he was not coughing up blood, I called the owner next and she said he IS still coughing up blood.....?????. She said her staff was just too scared to tell me that he was sick. I begged her to take BOTH my dogs to my vet in St. Helena and she did. My vet called me and told me my poor baby was poisoned and about to die. I spent all night crying. I was miles away and couldn't catch a flight. FORTUNATELY, they were able to save him. I asked for a full refund for both of my dogs short stay there, she refunded fully my sick dog's stay and partially my other dog's stay, and I asked the owner to pay half of the vet bill. Which she refused. I spent years trying to get her to pay, she got angry, hung up the phone on me, and threatened to call the police and arrest me for slander. I took a while to write this review because I was young at the time and believed what she said. I do not anymore and I am telling my story to warn other pet owners. Thank god I still have both of my dog's, but they were in the worst care possible at this place and I regret putting them there every damn day. read more

For about five years we've been sending our dog to Camp Rawhide, and it's his favorite place to be. He goes primarily to run around, play, and socialize with other dogs. The staff are very attentive and loving, and take great care to make sure to put dogs together that are compatible and have the same temperament. He always has a great time! They also worked with us to change some bad behaviors our dog developed during puberty. Their training an insights were very helpful. I can't recommend Camp Rawhide strongly enough! read more

I would avoid doing business with this facility. I brought my dog to see them in the morning for grooming service. When I dropped off my dog it seemed like a legitimate establishment. They told me to return in the afternoon between 1 and 3. I called ahead to see if the grooming was done. They told me my dog was sweet and they're were working on her and she would be done in an hour. So I show up at 3 and get a complete different story. They tell me my dog had some foxtails they removed and that they needed to keep her over night because the foxtails pierced skin. The dog must remain in a "sterile" environment. They refused to return my dog. Then threatened me with animal control. Long story short I had to call animal control to get my dog back. They came and helped me get her back. Come to find out they hadn't even groomed my dog! They didn't find foxtails it was a ploy to keep my dog. They forced me to pay 200 to get my dog released and animal control told me I had to sue them them to get my money back. No go at this place. read more

I would give this place no stars if I could. This place was dirty, smelly and our dog came back with a gash over her eye that no one bothered to tell us about. She is also acting very odd, almost traumatized. We have boarded her at other places many times, and I understand that the dogs nip each other sometimes, but that is not what this looks like and every other time she came back with a nick or something the staff always at least let us know, this seemed very shady. Took our dogs to Camp Rawhide because of the reviews and because it was close to our house. On the plus side we got an appointment for our 2 dogs quickly and the price was good. On the down side the dogs got a bath but that was it. Their nails were not cut or filed and we had more fur in the car and on our clothes than we could imagine. We will not be going back. read more

I can't say enough good things about camp rawhide. They're all so thoughtful and are really looking out for the dogs' best interests. I drop my dog off while I'm at work, and I know she has a great time. They're very attentive and try to make the experience the best for each individual dog. They give the dogs lots of time to run and socialize. My dog does not like the heat, so they set up a play area inside. I'm know that my dog is having a way better at camp rawhide while I'm at work than she would if she were left home, and it's worth every penny! read more

They have also gone through some training with Patrice and Armando and are doing very well with their behavior. They are always happy to go to Camp Rawhide.
