Our Heat & A/C had been out for almost 2 months. I have Chronic Health issues and honestly the last few weeks I had been MISERABLE with the South GA heat! My sister had recommended reaching out to Camp Tygart in Ray City just a few miles from Valdosta to see if they might have a cabin available. Hotels & Airbnb in the area were ridiculously priced for a week. To say that this was a blessing is an understatement! The Director of the Camp Rev. Jerry Hudson responded immediately. He was able to put my husband & I up in a 2 Bedroom Cabin (THE WATSON-KEY HOUSE) it was perfect for our needs and very reasonably priced. It was so homey from the moment we walked in. We appreciated that it had a full size refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot but most of all a cool A/C....lol All linens were provided as well as some essentials for the kitchen & bath. The grounds were absolutely breathtaking! There was a little pond with canoes, several playgrounds, a pool, cabins, open fields, basketball court & even some pet goats! I did like sitting in the little chapel daily as well. I've heard about Camp Tygart and knew that it is a non-profit organization supported and operated by the United Methodist Church but thought it was more of church retreat/camp kind of place nothing more. Don't get me wrong there's a beautiful little chapel and a large open air worship facility which is wonderful! However, I had no idea they offered spaces for weddings, family reunions, pool parties, trainings, retreats, workshops, RV hook ups and more. That they would rent a cabin in a situation like ours where we had no A/C. There was also a gentleman renting a RV spot from out of state for a work assignment in Valdosta. We stayed there for an entire week and it was so PEACEFUL! Personally spiritually I felt such Serenity there. Almost like a little vacation just a few miles from home. The Hudson family was very welcoming but also respected our privacy! What a great little escape under a not so fun situation at home with the A/C repairs.
