A couple of tourist tat shops and a cafe have now been complemented by an excellent little vintage football stall and a Peckham's deli and snack bar, while WH Smith's offers all the standard airport fare. Overall, it's clean, relatively laid back and friendly. Now of course, as the home to Ryanair flights, "Glasgow Prestwick" is actually nowhere near Glasgow, but during the day, getting to and from the city is no problem given the closeby proximity of Prestwick train station. Indeed, your flight ticket will bank you half price travel, 3.50 for a single. Should you arrive after 11pm, however, you will have to board a fairly grubby and over-priced bus which stops at both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Booking this in advance is strongly advised. Other than this, my only complaint is its failure to acknowledge the fact this is the only spot in the UK Elvis set foot in. I mean, I know they've put down a plaque, dedicated an entire restaurant to him, plastered the walls with Elvis memorabilia and erected a 10ft Elvis timeline which lists "Elvis visits Prestwick Airport" among the biggest achievements in his life, but is this really enough to commemorate the five minutes the King spent in Ayrshire as he changed flights? I think not.

On top of the normal pub fare there are some more exotic dishes like Mexican Fajitas, Burritos, Chimichangas and Chilli which don't seem very authentic but are tasty and make a nice change. Look out for the grilled breast of chicken with haggis and a pepper sauce: spicy and very tasty! The hotel is a little disappointing and seems to be in the middle of a slow refurbishment. The rooms are of varying quality with, tired furnishings, faulty windows and occasionally dodgy plumbing. On the plus side most of the rooms are a good size, and they have replaced the old TVs with modern LCD ones with Freeview. Overall recommended, especially for value and the helpful & friendly staff.

Location - stunning Food - excellent…read more This baronial mansion house is home to a C&R hotel and one of Scotland's finest restaurants. Regularly starred by the Michelin guide. I've eaten here three times now twice for dinner and once for lunch. On each occassion the service has been superb, without being as stuffy as the surroundings would suggest. Moreover, I've never once left with a single regret having dropped my hard earned wedge on dinner.

Having said that, it's just far enough out of town and on a residential street that it's perfectly quiet at night with no street noise. The hosts are lovely - Jackie was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The room was spotless and very comfortable (with free wifi) and the breakfast choices were fantastic - better than many places I've stayed. I can highly recommend the french toast with bacon and maple syrup. By the way the other guests were chatting over breakfast too, I got the feeling that at least one of them was a regular at the B&B, which is always a good sign. Jackie even managed to provide a hot water bottle for Him Indoors, who was fighting off a bad cold. We spent a while chatting about the air show and the area (I'm originally from down that way) and generally had a very lovely time. Really can't fault this B&B at all, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if we were in Ayr.

Prices aren't exactly cheap but the portions are usually big enough to justify the expense. Low ceilings can make it feel a bit cramped or very cosy. Someone I dined with was nearly poisoned with a chlorine tablet in their salad, but that was a very long time ago. It has changed hands a dozen times since then!

Even after paying my holiday they still responded almost instantly every time. Upon arrival, I saw the line of haven check-ins and was glad that I wasn't waiting for them. My passes were pre-booked with Craig Tara DCH so I was able to start my holiday as soon as I arrived. Grant gave me a quick tour around the van and then left me to my holiday, He was very knowledgeable about everything to do with the van and the park in general. He helped us to know when the best times were to go to the on-site restaurant to get the Early Bird discounts and the Live Lounge to get the best seats. The Van facilities were miles above any Caravan that I had ever stayed in, they were advertising a van at deluxe plus that I personally have stayed in worse prestige caravans. The park was filled with activities for me and my children to do, from the water walkers to Nature Rocks activities for free which was amazing and they enjoyed completing the activities provided for free or some small costs When it came to check-out I was once again greeted by Grant at around 10 AM to check us out, he took a minute to quickly check the van then took the keys and we left but he informed us that we were able to stay until the end of the day so we made the best use of the facilities available. 10/10 Best holiday I've ever had in a caravan.
