But that's the tradeoff for being in this location. Minutes from the Central station. Steps from the Grand Place and the old town center. Endless dining options. All within a stone's throw away. You cannot ask for more when visiting and staying in an old European town. If you get lucky, you'll get a room with a balcony view of the street, which is unforgettable. Not only that, but you are only 20 minutes from the airport. What more can you ask for?

Grand Place is not that far, 5-10 minute walk depending on your pace. Bathroom - Modern, some toiletries provided in small packets. Hand towels and bath towels provided as well. Room - Slightly dingy, carpet a bit dirty, smelled smokey/old. Noise - Can be bad if the other patrons are loud. BED - BAD. Not a lot of covers and ONE small pillow. My biggest complaint. Uncomfortable. They do have a locked baggage room which is nice if you arrive before the 3PM checkin. The room I was in did have a safe large enough for a medium sized laptop and other electronics which was nice. A very small TV was provided as well. They did have water-heat radiators which made controlling the temperature a bit challenging. Nice windows with good views as well. Breakfast was provided....for 8 Euros. But you can go to a cafe near by and get something delicious for cheaper. Would I stay here again? Only if it was the best deal around, but it might almost be worth paying more to get a nicer bed.

For the price, you cant beat the comfort and the location. This hotel was exactly what we needed to spend 3 days in this beautiful city. Located right next to shopping, attractions and restaurants of Grand Place, as well as near one of the main transportation hubs. Tons of other historical and architectural attractions within walking distance also made this a great hotel choice. Be prepared: this is not your typical hotel experience. Since this is marketed as an extended stay property, it has a feel of apartments vs. actual full service hotel. Upon making your reservation, make sure to receive a key code for the front door. This hotel does not have a front desk or full-time on property staff. There is, however, an on-call manager who proved to be affective and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Your room key needs to be inserted into a slot right next to the door to activate electricity. Plenty of space for your belongings, an office desk area, queen size bed and a flat screen television surrounded by modern, inexpensive IKEA style decor. Here's our funny story: Arrived in Brussels and located the property in early afternoon. Our front door key code was not working or we just weren't using it properly. A nice young couple was walking by and used their key card to let us in. Once inside we located our room keys and welcome packages in a lock-box. All is well so far :-) I opened our room only to discover someone asleep in the bed. Oops! ...It's the right room number and the key card worked... Our friends, somehow ended up with the exact same scenario. We quickly huddle downstairs and call the manager on-duty. She promptly returns our call and starts working on the issue. Turns out, a large family had rented out the entire floor and was scheduled to check-out early in the am. Head of the family came downstairs to chat with us, and said he simply decided not to check-out and extend his stay...however he failed to get a hold of the hotel and let them know. The manager directed us to a near by cafe and took care of our lunch assuring our small group that this issue will be resolved promptly. We relaxed and had our lunch while watching the chaos of this large family frantically trying to gather their belongings and all the kids while making arrangements for alternative accommodations. Our rooms were cleaned and we were ready to check in within 2 hours. We all (us, hotel guests and manager) parted as friends. The rest of our stay was as any other hotel experience would or should be - uneventful :-) We had a blast exploring the city and walking all over Grand Place area and the rest of Brussels.

Instead, they email you two codes before you arrive, one to let you into the building and one so you can open a locker to get your key cards. Then, when to check out you just drop your key cards into a different locker. I guess it's efficient, it worked fine for us. Obviously it means there's no room service or anything like that (they have cleaners on weekdays) but that was fine for us. Apart from that strangeness, this is a great hotel. The rooms are apartments that include a room with a kitchenette, a small dining tables, a sofa with a TV, a desk and then there's a bedroom and bathroom. The room was warm, clean and spacious, although it was starting to show signs of wear and tear in parts. We didn't have much of a view, but given the fantastic location in the centre of the old town, you don't have to go far to find one. The kitchenette was handy for making snacks and things. The bed was huge and comfy. The only downside was that I think our room happened to be near some pipes that fed the other bathrooms in the hotel, and the noise of the running water could get quite loud. I think this would be absolutely ideal if you needed to stay in Brussels for a few weeks and wanted to do you own cooking and things. No doubt it's perfect for business trips. It's good for tourists too, though - it's only two minutes from the Grand Place.

There is a kettle, fridge and microwave. The wifi works well and the amount of space for the price is impressive. The decor is basic ikea, but perfectly functional and very new. Our room was in the basement, which at first, would seem like a bad thing, but there were only 3 or 4 rooms down there, and our room was the only one with access to the outdoors. Granted, it was a stone covered area where the furnace was housed, and there was no outdoor furniture, but still, being able to go outside without going up to the street was nice. The bed was comfortable and we had enough room to move around without constantly bumping into each other. The television and the shower could have been a bit larger, but we were only staying for one night, so we weren't too upset about it. Also, we just slept there, it wasn't a hang out spot for us, so as long as it was clean and comfortable, we didn't need 5 star accommodations. The resulting surplus of women led to the founding of the Béguines, a Christian sect devoted to rescuing single women from a life of penury and immorality. The women were housed in Béguinages, rows of small houses built around a church and courtyard and protected from the outside world by a high brick wall. The women did not take religious orders, but they were expected to perform community services. These good deeds made the Béguinages very popular until the 17th century, when a drift into mysticism put them on a collision course with the Pope. The last Beguine of Belgium, one Sister Marcella, died in 2008, at age 88. But the Béguinages, even though still occupied, had long ceased to perform their function. in 1998, UNESCO added the Flemish Béguinages as a group to its list of World Heritage Sites. By far the largest Béguinage was built in Ghent, but at one time nearly every sizeable Belgian town had a community. The Béguinage in Lier is one of the better preserved. Most of the homes remain occupied, so there is a limit to how much you can see. But if you arrive here around sunset, when the church bells toll for evening prayers, you wll see the gorgeous houses empty their aging occupants (male and female) onto the street.

I love a Begiunage and this is the best one in the country, even better than the one in Bruges…read more Lier is an amazing little Flemish town - it's like Bruges without the tourists - and wandering around this one was awesome. There was a local artist who had an exhibition in one of the houses, he explained how the place works: the town owns all of the buildings inside; they rent them out to tenants, and you can make approved renovations, and deduct the costs of them from your rent. There are two small churches inside that are open irregularly. The doors close 10pm-7am.

This place is an architects dream come true. We had the upper flat with the full red designed seethrough bathroom, a fantastic sun roof without curious neighbour glimpses. Great details, full kitchen and a fantastic breakfast, provided by the super nice host. The surroundings are great too, nice little city, close distance to Brussels or Antwerpen (approx 20 Mins by car). We will come again and stay longer!
