Situated at the beginning of the cinque terre, it's is a good spot to be out of reach and to be fairly next to nice little villages to visit or even Genova. you live on terraces , because the land falls very steeply into the sea. with the very nice side effect that almost every single spot where you can put up your tent has a unique ocean view.

This allows for a longer layover stop to be a place where you can explore a bit, and even perhaps get a bite to eat. This is definitely the case for the Genova Piazza Principe, which is very close to the Cruise Boat Port and near many restaurants that serve both transportation hubs. We arrived around lunch time on a Saturday from Ventiglia around 12:20 pm. We grabbed some lunch from a nearby restaurant, and came back around 1:30, and found a place outside to sit. Sitting outside pretty much means being near cigarette smoke. We were going to Pisa, and they announced the track about an hour before arrival. There was an elevator from the tunnel underneath (each track has their own). Ground level is always 0 in Europe and the basem ent levels are -1. (no G or B here). The train to Pisa had a final destination of Rome, so a lot of people had luggage for the weekend. The train came to Track 20 at 2:42 for a 3:01 departure, so we had plenty of time to find our assigned seats. There was space for our luggage overhead, and our American size luggage fit fine. We left at precisely 3:01, and made the following stops. We noticed that at each stop, they allowed 3 - 5 minute layover to allow people to easily get in and out with luggage. 3:05 Genova Brignole - left at 3:10 3:29 Rapallo. Left at 3:36 3:42 Chiavari. Left at 3:44 4:22 La Spezia Centrale. Left at 4:24 4:41: Massa Centro. Left at 4:43 4:52: Viareggio. Left at 4:53 5:07: Pisa Centrale. Left at 5:09 This definitely did inspire for future trips to know that we could take a train into Rome from France. The trip cost 11,9€ each.

The location is convenient with several restaurants next door and across the street. If you drive, parking can be expensive, but I think the prices would be similar at any of the hotels in the area. This place is also popular. When we arrived they were sold out. Luckily we had booked online. This place is also very secure. You are given a key to get you into all the doors that you will need to go through to get to your room. Now about the room, if you like fresh air, you are able to open the window, but there is also air conditioning. The room size was nice especially if you compare this to other hotels in Europe. The bed was comfortable, there was a closet for your clothes and a mini fridge. Also the staff was very friendly amd took extra time to show us how to work the doors etc. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is centrally located in Manarola but is also very peaceful and quiet. They have rooms with a sea view or a town view. The rooms are very spacious and have lots of counter space. The bathroom and shower were also really spacious. Jessica and Alberto were very friendly and helpful and helped us to make dinner reservations, bought our Cinque Terre cards at a discounted rate, told us some hiking tips, and prepared takeaway breakfasts when we had to checkout early. They were super responsive on email for the months leading up to the trip too which we really appreciated. Mary Rose was very friendly and made delightful cappuccinos, eggs, and pancakes for breakfast every morning. The rest of the breakfast spread (lemon tarts, jam tarts, chocolate brownies, croissants, yogurt, granola, bread, cheese, meats, cereal, juices) was also incredible. They will hold your bags for you if you need it, either before check-in or after check-out. We can honestly say that we would come back and stay here again in a heartbeat! The rooms, the customer service, and the town of Manarola were perfect.

Yes it's a tourist area and you have to park up top at the public parking (pay in lot, free on the street) so pack light and carry your stuff down the HUGE 15 minute hill--but the hotel is a great option for the center of town. They provided me with recommendations on things to do as well as their favorite restaurants, and were happy to help with making reservations. The location is absolutely stunning, they have an upper terrace, with a couple couches were you can enjoy the view. There is a wonderful hot tub that was great after a long day of hiking. It's on the top of the main street, and it is a bit of a hike so I wouldn't carry heavy luggage. With that said, he also provides detailed instructions on how to get there if you do decide to walk. He also provides options on a variety of luggage pickup/car services to make your travel up their as easy as possible. The free breakfast was delicious, tons of options: fruit bowls, cheese/charcuterie, fresh bread, pastries, egg, pesto, the best tomatoes you'll ever have, honeycomb, teas/fresh espresso drinks made for you, cereals and milk, etc. It's a quiet escape and I would definitely stay again. The rooms were beautifully kept, stocked with water, diet coke/tonic water/sparkling orange water. Bottle of prosecco upon check in. Loved the private terrace. But they are clean, functional and have all the comforts you want and expect of a hotel (or bed and breakfast, which I would almost be more inclined to call this place). The place is run by a family, who live on site. The son is the main point of contact throughout your stay and speaks very good English, but everyone is super friendly!! When we arrived in Riomaggiore in our hire car we were a little lost as to where to park. If you've ever been to the Cinque Terre, you will understand why - as the saying goes, it's easier to get a hotel room in Riomaggiore than a carpark. We phoned the hotel immediately and he gave us excellent directions to the carpark on the high side of the hotel. He greeted us from below and we popped our luggage on the "lift" to avoid lugging it down the stairs, before he buzzed us in. Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so they kindly provided us a welcome drink and then looked after our bags while we made the walk (trek) down the hill to check out the town. When we got back the room was ready and our luggage delivered. The gardens of the hotel along the terraces were so lovely, as they are across the entire Cinque Terre. We had a nice view out over Riomaggiore, but not of the sea as this place is up the back end of the town, right up the hill. We were provided with an excellent welcome folder with printed train, bus and ferry timetables as well as maps, recommendations of the best restaurants and the most scenic hikes and walks to do amongst the many, many options in the area. These extra touches really make all the difference. We were provided with a simple breakfast everyday that included cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, a variety of pastries, bread, sliced cold meats and cheese as well as espresso of your choice. Simple, but filling and good to fuel you for a day of hiking. The breakfast room was always set up nicely and tidy each morning - again, the little touches! There is free wi-fi included in your stay and it was some of the best (fastest and most reliable) we had during our time in Italy. They also made us a number of restaurant reservations - again, really helpful and professional. Unfortunately, during our time there, the air-con in our room was on the blink. They were highly apologetic as there is only one technician that services the coast so they were waiting for him to come ASAP. If you pay cash at the end of your stay, you can get a 10% discount. And whilst this may not be the swankiest or newest place on the Cinque Terre, it's highly affordable and really professionally run. I would recommend this hotel, if you don't mind an uphill walk home each day, as it delivers on its value promise.
