A great, friendly camp site, about 30 mins from Amsterdam and serviced by a 2 buses an hour. The site has everything you'll need- a well stocked shop, bar, restaurant, sanck bar, children's playground, a small splash pool (deep enough for kids to swim). Offers a choice of accomadation tents and caravans, basic hikers huts, two bedroom chalets and two bed bungalettes with showers. Situated on the 'sea' with a small beach, within easy reach of Marken, Edam and Amsterdam. read more

Just returned from Camping Uitdam. Don't believe everything you read on their advert! The site was well run, the area very nice, and as a yacht marina the facilities seemed good. However.....we booked one of their nice looking log chalets as advertised on their website. When we got there we were given the key to chalet #1 which was one of the UPVC cabins. Although the same inside this was not what we had paid for. Also it absolutely stank of stale smoke, so much so that we refused to accept it and were given another. We questioned why we hadn't got the log cabin we had booked and were told that "these are only for our workers". While we were there (4 nights) they were unused......Incidentally there are apparently no "no smoking" chalets. Having had chance to wander around the site we then found the child's swimming pool and playground. The playground was unkempt with some rotting wood on the climbing equipment, and the pool was cloudy and full of leaves. I went to reception and asked when the water was last tested and was told that they didn't test it but it was last cleaned 3 weeks ago! Won't be going in there then!! The grass around our chalet was about 10" high when we arrived and I would guess that it hadn't been cut this year. It was like that for 3 days and then strangely the Dutch arrived for what we think was a public holiday and the whole place got cleaned up. However.... once again, don't believe the pictures on their website which shows a large expanse of caravans in the background. There are none! One would think that this might be a good thing unless you saw what remained. The whole place looks like a building site. The football pitch is inaccessible due to the amount of weeds and bushes which stop you getting to it and the tennis courts look like they have had their own earthquake; one end of them is completely broken up where the ground has pushed the entire surface upwards making them unusable. Oh....and the restaurant....we were told that the restaurant was open in the evening so duly went along on our first night (Monday) only to find that its only open at the weekend! Just as well we had some pot noodles with us! When reading this review please don't think that we are moaning English people. We don't do that. We have stayed all over the world in some real grotty places so we normally just get on with it. However, when you complain and they don't seem to care, and you have paid a lot of money for the privilege of staying somewhere it is nice to think you would get what you pay for. In this case we didn't. read more
