As soon as I parked right in front, I noticed two straight ahead that caught me eye (tree love at first sight??) and one of them is in my living room right now. Just 6' high - the cute little tree I wanted - incredibly full and they said they got a new tree farm supplying them this year. There is a nice selection of all kinds of annuals and perennials, but nothing extraordinary. In addition to the main area, be sure to check out all of the numbered greenhouses. It wasn't until after I had purchased over $250 worth of small plants that another customer told me about the greenhouses. I bought so many plants for hanging baskets and discovered that they had an entire greenhouse of hanging baskets for $20 each. Ugh. I absolutely would not have purchased all of those individual plants. The other thing is that the staff there isn't friendly. Maybe they are understaffed. No one approached us, or was able to help us. When we asked for a specific plant, they didn't know if they had them or not. Some of them we later found on our own. The other thing is that the plants aren't entirely grouped together. Most of the coleus plants are in the large main greenhouse, but what I was actually looking for was outside. Also, they charge for boxes. Wow. After spending over $250 for plants, they then charged me $.30 a box to carry them and put them in the car. This place is pretty good but I don't think I would return. I would rather go to a place like Adams where you can really get someone to help you out.

We decided to chance the drive out past downtown and it was well worth the trip; the Pottery's grounds are lovely (nice dahlias) and the shop was filled with what the Web site advertised. Multiple styles of mugs and dishes in striking and idiosyncratic glazes of many kinds. We chose sea green and (sea?) blue that the potter advised us were so notable because ground glass was scattered in the glaze; when she didn't have a piece in a glaze I wanted she cheerfully offered to glaze a piece to meet my hopes and send it on when it was ready. Absolutely worth the trip; we hope to return and add to our collection. UPDATE: The mugs we bought are excellent for coffee flavor. Know how different mugs make coffee taste different? We think these -- the big one with gently sloping-out sides and the straight-sided larger one -- provide excellent flavor. Also, dishwasher-safe, so yeah.

They also offer everything from baskets to fake trees and animals. I love the waterfall as you walk in. I could hear it. There is an upstairs with a lots of great stuff. They even have a place you can sit. The owner was very nice. She talked to my son while I looked upstairs. She even gave him a flower to give to me. They close at 3:00 and I didn't know that and it was 3:30 when we left. I look forward to going back and looking around longer.
