Let me start out by saying that I am not Catholic and did not grow up extremely religious so I…read morereally have not been to many churches, let alone Catholic churches. I have been to this particular location four times now and really enjoyed my visits. This is my boyfriend's parent's church so the times we have been to Texas to visit we joined them. I loved my experience here for many reasons. First off the people seemed very friendly and I didn't feel judged for not being Catholic as it is obvious once it is time for communion. That was my biggest fear the first time going. The last three sermons were interesting, but the first one is what stands out to me. The priest did a great job tying different verses within the Bible to real-life situations which made it easy for someone not familiar to understand and appreciate the message. I also liked that he mentioned the fact that he cared not to judge people of other religions and was just happy they worshiped in some way. I thought that was a pretty neat way of thinking and contrary to what I thought it would be. I am only taking a start off due to the last sermon the Sunday after Christmas. It wasn't their main priest, but the entire hour was spent talking about how being gay is wrong. I am not trying to cause a debate or argue their faith, but I am from California so you know my opinion on that. haha I just have too many friends that are and it made me sad to hear some of these things. Anyway, I recommend this Church and my boyfriend who is a better judge of this agrees!

My wife and I attended Mass here while were in town for Chilifest. The Mass was celebrated in a…read morereverent manner, they didn't deviate from the Roman Missal, and the priest gave a good homily that was consistent with Catholic teaching. The principal instrument in the liturgy was the organ and there were no musical liturgical abuses like what you would expect from St. Mary's.

Okay, I'm biased, but I love Brazos Community Church (now called Life Church). For years I had a…read morefriend talking about his church and trying to get me to check it out claiming that it was totally up my alley--and he was right. The services are laid back and have almost a classroom feel to them. The small congregation is always friendly and close knit without excluding the new comers. Pastor Paul is great at really touching on topics that are relevant in life. Yes, this mall is located in a strange location (behind Joanne's Fabrics in a strip mall), but it grows on you. You can tell this isn't some sell out church spouting out popular doctrine and sacrificing tough messages. I think what I like the best about this church is the community--people really get to know each other here. They do great things to foster this sense of belonging like monthly pot lucks, dinner clubs, small group studies, etc. I never felt lost in the shuffle of things and there was a sense of accountability without the accusatory nature often found in religious organizations. I've been gone from B/CS for a few years now and have had the hardest time finding a new church in Houston that can match the environment found here. It is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a smaller setting for your Sunday rituals.
