So, last Fall I got one of those routine maintenance tune-ups for my packaged HVAC unit. And that's when my problems began. My system had been trouble free for the last 11 years. Now, I know nothing about HVAC units and so I can't accuse the company that did the tuneup (NOT Candid) of doing anything to damage my system, but after that tuneup, I started having problems getting heat. The company that did the tuneup and two other companies looked at my system. Two of them did some repairs that did not solve the problem and the third one just threw up their hands and told me I need a new system. my system is 17 years old and so I have the suspicion that at least the third company doesn't really look carefully at an older system because it's so much more profitable for them to just sell a new one. So I saw the reviews that candid has and I thought "all right I'll replace the system. I just think I'm gonna use this company because they have really good reviews". So the guys at Candid came to my place. I told the owner what's been going on with it and I told him "it seems like I need a new system and so after you look at it if you agree, let's talk about what my options are." After about 30 minutes, he came down off my roof and he said that the control board ( or electrical oard or console or something--these are my words. I forgot exactly what he said) is clearly the problem. He said your system is old, but it's really not bad, you probably are going to get at least several more years out of it. So Cliff, the owner, ordered the part and replaced the control board thingy and it's working fine. And that wound up being about a $900 repair instead of a $15-$20,000 job. Often times you don't get objective measures that help you compare the quality of different HVAC companies. It seems to me this is a pretty objective measure. Three companies came out and two of them spent a fair amount of time looking at my unit and none of the three were able to diagnose the problem that cliff, at candid, diagnosed after about a half an hour. read more

My air conditioner was 22 years old and stopped working. I was going to replace it. Cliff said that I should look at repairing it rather than repacing it. He found that the blower motor had to be replaced and some freon had to be added, and it's working perfectly. He saved me so much money. I called before Thanksgiving about my heater needing repair and to my surprise they picked up and agreed to help. They came out and did a diagnostic and told me I would need a part that would take a few days to arrive. I paid them for the diagnostic and thanked them. They were supposed to contact me when they had the part. I've called but no answer so still with no heat. Came out and performed normal system maintenance plus changed out a thermostat. They did exactly what I expect from a good contractor, went beyond the obvious and did a thorough inspection. They found components that were getting close to end of service life and made the repairs. Also had an issue with an electrical component that was near the AC Unit. I asked if they come back and see if it was possibly dislodged during the inspection. These guys were great, came back out and rectified the issue. Wasn't their fault, but they fixed it anyway. From the start, he gave me his personal cell phone and when my thermostat was having problems in the middle of a heat wave, he returned my call and fixed my problem right away. Cliff, the owner of Candid heating/AC, saved my life! (almost). I had called another company December 8, 2022 to come out to my home. My heating unit stopped working. The prior company came out 3 times and "decided" it was the pressure valve. That company ordered the part. I am a very patient person, but by week 4 the part still had not arrived. Made a call to that company and was told it would be at least 2 more weeks? The delay was blamed on bad weather across the country. This had been a VERY cold December. I nearly froze in my own home for ONE MONTH waiting for that valve to arrive. When told I would be waiting at least 2 more weeks I called Candid heating. I called late in the day as my air conditioning went out during this heat wave. They were nice enough to squeeze me in at the end of their day. 2018: Reponsive. Keeps Appoinment time. Pleasant. NOT pushy! Thorough, fixes problem and sticks around to make sure it's resolved. 2 service calls -- still VERY HAPPY! Our old AC stopped working last night (Fan stopped functioning.) Called this morning and left message at 8:30 am. At 8:32 am, Cliff returned my call! Told me he could come between 9:30-10 am - showed up AS PROMISED! Able to fix problem today (had part on hand). I realize we need to replace 20+ years-old system (end-of-life, improve efficiency), but I appreciate that Cliff is NEVER pushy/high-pressure about getting a higher-priced job of replacing everything. I appreciate that he enables us to buy some time and do this properly, and in future when the weather is more consistently cool. 2016 REVIEW: AC started leaking over weekend. Called Candid (Cliff)) for 2nd opinion. Accomodating. Called me back (as promised). Scheduled same day to see problem. ONLY ONE to open sheetmetal to inspect coil, showed me it was completely clogged; water marks everywhere leaking occured. Mentioned it must be expensive running AC since we don't have good airflow... appears never been cleaned/conditioned in 20 years. Clogged (previous owners didn't change filters regularly or filters fell through (missing part)/not functioning. Offered options as fixes, explained pros/cons. Happy to answer questions. Not pushy with new system or any fixes. Scheduled Cliff to clean/unclog everything (Drain Lines, Coil, Blower/fan). Discussed options with me, again, before starting work. Seemed thorough, showed me before/after including Drain Pan with no crack/leaking. Seemed very knowlegable, informative and happy to educate me. 2nd opinion critical! Cliff found clogged drain line: "1st opinion guy" said drain line NOT clogged (didn't look at entire line) and we "need new expensive coil, but should just get entirely new system" that he kept pushing... Candid -- 5th HVAC company to our house (less than 10 years!!) OTHER HVACS: No good advice on properly maintaining AC. Gave various nonsense about improving airflow or why it's so expensive to run during hot months and not great at cooling. 3 Co.'s really pushy about replacing EVERTHING (ductwork & AC/FAU units), but NOT great at answering questions (and jerks about it!) on their $10-$20k quotes!. Tune up service just completed today. We plan to call Candid to get quote/details how he'd address our needs for a more efficient and cooling system! Cliff came out to check our condo's central heat and cooling unit in the Palms/Overland area. Our A/C started making a buzzing sound when we tried to turn it on. The appointment was easy to make and Cliff was so professional. You can tell that he cared about your home. We were in need of an entire central a/c & heating system installed--including ducting and new register cut-outs. Our house was built in the 50's and the existing registers are on the floor which won't get the job done when you need your house cooled in the heat of summer so we wanted registers placed on the ceiling. We received multiple quotes and Cliff came in with the best price. He recommended a 5-Ton 16 SEER cooling system for our single-level 2,500 sq. ft house. Cliff was very professional and is licensed which was important to us as we wanted our work permitted by the city. Cliff installed the furnace portion of the system in our attic which included adding power and a light switch. He also installed our outside condenser (a/c system) along with a disconnect and all new ductwork. In addition, Cliff installed a wifi thermostat that allows us to download an app where we can operate the system remotely. It's a smart thermostat so it keeps track of your usage patterns and memorizes your settings. It's so cool that we can turn the a/c on through our phone prior to getting home. We have indoor cats so it's nice to be able to turn on the system if we think the house is getting too hot or cold when we're away. As for Cliff he was very professional from start to finish. His contracts clearly documented exactly what would be done, it took less than a week to perform the entire job as was expected, and he worked with the city to get city permit approval. He clearly takes pride in his work and was extremely responsive with any questions/concerns we had. We were so pleased with the whole process. There are not enough stars for the service provided by Cliff! He installed a new HVAC for us four years ago. This week we were having work done in our home and the workers taped up the intake and let the air run! When they left, we had no air and the house was up to 90 degrees! I have a disease that gives me an intolerance to heat and was literally sitting in my car with the air running when I called Cliff. When I reminded him of my disease he was at my house in 15 minutes! Our Carrier heat stopped working and Cliff from Candid came to diagnose & repair it. Normally we use Canoga Park heating & air but I couldn't get a hold of them and found Candid thru yelp reviews. I called and immediately got a hold of someone who set up the appointment and within about an hour Cliff, the owner & one of the techs, arrived at my house. He spent a good deal of timing checking and rechecking the heater and determined we needed a new heater blower. Since Carrier was closed for parts over the weekend, Cliff told me he would call them on Monday and see if the part was in stock. Early Monday morning at 8:30 am I received a voicemail from Cliff letting me know the part was available and he could install same day. He did the repair work and yahoo the heat was back on! Cliff is extremely professional, easy to talk to, took his time to explain the repair and answer questions, and was overall very pleasant to be around.
