I went in to ask about repairing a necklace. I was first told it wasn't worth fixing and to buy a new one, then told to come back in an hour because he might be able to repair it. When I returned three hours later, he said he hadn't looked at it and asked me to come back yet again. When I declined, he became upset and practically threw the necklace back at me. To make matters worse, he also commented that he "liked my jeans," which felt very inappropriate. I only have one day off and could have gone elsewhere for the repair. This was disappointing, especially given the store's good reputation. read more

Candlelight Jewelers is an excellent watch repair shop. They also sell jewelry, but the styles and designs are more budget oriented. They seem to draw an older clientele, so their selection makes sense. There is also a decent selection of entry level watches to choose from. It is located in Oak Mill shopping mall - an old school mall that houses a bunch of medical facilities. Parking can be somewhat difficult, so you may need to drive around the parking lot during peak hours to find a spot. The staff is pretty friendly and they often have their two family dogs hanging out in the shop. I have been to Candlelight a few times for watch service. They are very good for quick battery exchanges. I had the bezel on a nicer watch break and they were able to repair it in about 2 weeks. I provided the factory authorized Tag parts and they put it back together for me for around $50. If you take it to an authorized Tag Heuer repair shop the quotes were around $200. Check here for watch repairs as they are quicker and more reasonably priced than some of the higher end jewelers in the suburbs. read more

Horrible service. Do not go here for anything! I came in to have my watch battery changed. The woman employee took my watch and began to try and take off the back of the watch to change the battery. After a few minutes she handed me the watch and said that it could not be serviced because there was no crown. She lost the crown in the watch, scratched the back of the watch, lost the crown of my watch, and then tried to lie and say the watch did not have the crown when I handed it to her. After taking this matter to the Niles Police department Candlelight Jewelers told me they would fix the watch but because of their lack of knowledge put me in contact with another business (MJ Watch Service) to fix the watch. I went to MJ Watch Service and they told me they would order a new crown. After waiting a month for a new crown for the watch I called and they told me it hadn't arrived yet. I waited and waited. I called monthly for 6 months and it became apparent that Candlelight Jewelers and MJ Watch Service were illegitimate businesses that scam their customers. I never received a new crown and my watch does not work. Stay away from these businesses! Beware of this business and it's shady practices. I went here as we very close to this jewelry and shop at Jewel often in this plaza. We wanted to get a broken chain on a necklace that my son wears which has his grandpa's ashes in it as a keepsake. My son whose 9 lost his grandpa last year and was heartbroken when he broke the chain. The lady there that answered the door said they usually do appointments only but she saw how sad he was about his necklace. She said I'll be right back 5-10 minutes later she comes back and fixed the broke clasps and said it's no charge because he was so cute about telling her his story. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice and quick she fixed this as I expected to leave it there for days and maybe be a costly repair. I will be coming back here for any repairs and if ever in the market for a new piece of jewelry. Highly recommend this awesome place, you made a boys day! read more

This review is solely for the help I received from the owner for a necklace I didn't even purchase from them. They do have some cute pieces in store, but I believe their crowd is 40s and older and the jewelry caters to that age group. However I do want to highlight that the owner fixed the lobster claw of a necklace that I didn't even buy from him. When I offered to pay he said "no cost"it just took him a few seconds to do so. In times like these of economic hardship even if it was just a few seconds he he needed to take-care of it and made sure my necklace was secure again. I didn't know that the store is appointment only so I showed up and a lady came to the door to help me. After showing her the ring, the first question she asked me was if the ring is real. I was very taken aback by this because 1. It is real and 2. It was very unprofessional to me that she asked this question right off the bat. I have some mixed feelings about this place, and it's because of these mixed feelings that I give them them the dreaded one star. A few years ago, my lovely wife purchased matching watches for our anniversary from this very place. I love my watch. I'm a ridiculously sentimental sap too, but cut me some slack, my wife rocks and so does my watch. My wife had a good experience buying the watches from this place as well. If this were the end of the review, I would continue to walk through life with rose colored glasses. Sadly, I unceremoniously broke this watch when it took a matrix style tumble off the bathroom counter. Take one sentimental sap and mix in the shattered crystal pieces and what do you get? A dude kneeling in his bathroom going "full retard" like Tugg Speedman with tears made of crystal. I was freaken out people! After finally snapping out of it, I began my search on finding a high quality watch repair shop. I figured what I would need is a full on cleaning and crystal replacement. I placed quite a few calls and pretty much no one had the crystal to go with this watch and most wouldn't commit to a time frame. Some of the quotes I was getting back said it would take months. So, I went back to where this watch came from. My feeling was, they probably would not fix it in house and send it out. But, I get to support the local business that had up until this point made me quite happy and in turn get a face to match the service. A win win of sorts. They also said it would only take two weeks. Score! After a surprisingly short couple of weeks of waiting, I went in to pick up my watch. Upon inspection what did I find? The crystal was not sitting flat on top of the watch. It was slightly off, but noticeable to the naked eye. It was also identifiable by the the elevation change of the crystal against the bezel as you traced your finger in a circular motion around the face. I told the rep right then and there that something was wrong. He took a look with a lope and told me nothing was wrong. I told him to check again, and again he told me straight faced that nothing was wrong. He used a lope and saw no problems? Seriously? This polite banter ensued for a good fifteen minutes culminating with me telling them to do it again and I'll eat the cost. Yeah people, it came to that. I would eat the cost. The customer here was not right, but I wanted it done right. About a month later, double the time it took to fix it the first time around, I go to pick up my watch. Same problem but with a different result. How so? This time, there is a clear filler that was applied to where the crystal is sitting too low. To the touch it felt a lot like a clear silicone gasket material. I took a polishing cloth and began rubbing it off figuring it was just sloppy work. When I was done, there was the depression again! In exactly the same place as before! It felt like deja'vu but there was no Trinity to tell me that something had changed. He picked up the same lope, peeked through, and again told me nothing was wrong... Ultimately, I walked out of there with my treasured time piece with a crystal that is not sitting properly. Now when I look at my watch on my wrist, I see two things. One, my wife loves me and I love her. Two, I am never going back to this place again. read more

I highly recommend Candlelight Jewelers! After having kids my wedding and engagement ring no longer fit. I decided to try them on together one day and realized I could not get them off. A friend recommended I go to Candlelight to see if they could help. Unfortunately there was no way to remove them without cutting the bands. I was so upset by this but the woman helping me was so kind and helped me realize it wasn't the end of the world. I waited a little bit to have them repaired and eventually decided to redesign my rings. Candlelight helped me find the perfect setting for my current stone and then allowed me to trade in the remaining diamonds on the band toward an upgrade. They were so helpful and very reasonably priced. The rings were suppose to take about 3-4 weeks. They arrived early and I couldn't be happier!! I came in hoping to get my necklace fixed after being told no by a couple of jewelers, that they don't fix costume jewelry. Not only did they fix it but wouldn't charge me for the repair. My wife has bought several watches and other pieces of jewelry here over the last 4 years. She also likes to support the local businesses. For some reasons the crystal on one of them has cracked 3 time in 2 years, twice in the last 5 months. I've worn watches for 50 years and never had a cracked crystal, even while working construction for most of that time, so this seems very strange to be happening. When I brought the watch in and expressed a concern over the fact that yet another crystal has cracked, the woman helping me was about as uninterested as you can get and didn't offer any solution or help. Wouldn't even consider that the company repairing it could have done a bad job. So now I'm looking for a different jeweler to spend my money. Laury was absolutely incredible. Candlelight jewelers was recommended to me by a very good friend of mine. I could not have been more happy with my decision to go to Laury. From the first time discussing what I wanted in regards to an engagement ring for my girlfriend he was extremely helpful. I was able to describe sort of the type of diamond that I wanted and my budget. I was then able to see a couple lose diamonds and my sister helped picked the right one. Then we went through the setting and the stones on the setting are incredible. After this I even choose the color of the prong, I felt very involved in the process and felt as if I had created this incredible ring. Lastly I received some 3D images of what the ring would look like before he started making it for me. I have really only dealt with Candlelight Jewelers when servicing watches, so this review is based on those experiences. I don't really recommend this place for anything more than a quick battery replacement or adjustment. Serious repairs should be carried out at another place. Their service leaves alot to be desired. Yes, they are not the most approachable people unless you know what you want and have some knowledge in the subject. They are terrible with call backs, and you usually have to do the calling back. I went in to see if I could get a different watch strap for one of my watches, and I was told, "Why would I want to do that? There is nothing wrong with your strap?" If you are looking to make money as a company, why are you talking someone out of a sale. Their repair man is alright, though don't take any high end piece, or antique piece, for him to fix. Chances are, you will be very disappointed. I brought in an antique Elgin watch and said I wanted a restoration on it, I got only eight hours after a full wind. I took the same watch to another repair man, who said he basically cleaned some parts, and didn't dissemble to do the restoration. Now the watch gets almost two days on full wind. They are quick with adjustments, or a quick battery change. However, if you havs a Swiss watch that is a quartz movement, do not take it hear. Some Swiss quartz's take different batteries which need to be ordered, and they will put in one that is a generic. I had an Omega X-33 which required a special battery, they argued with me that it didn't and the watch was dead again in three weeks. So, depending on the watch, you may want to take it elsewhere. Basically, use them when you are in a pinch, nothing more. I gave Candlelight two stars instead of one because I have never dealt with them and their jewelry. read more

Laury the owner pleasantly and compassionately took his time to inform us of all the things which make up a diamond ring. He explained the coloring, grades, shape cuts and everything there was to know about engagement rings. We loved that we could design a ring for a price that we wanted. We found a band style we liked and he kindly got some shipments in that were closer to the width that we were looking for. From there we picked a centerstone and prong setting we liked. Laury was such a pleasure to work with and our happiness and satisfaction was his top priority. We never felt pressured during the whole process which was nice because this wasn't always the case at other jewelers we looked before here. I was happy to buy an engagement ring from an honest local family owned business. I will be going back to get my wedding ring and my soon to be fiance's wedding band.
