On our most recent trip, our flight out of Mexico was cancelled and we needed another 24 hours of pet sitting with no advance notice. One quick text to Don and we were all set. I boarded my 2 large dogs with them and explained my dogs' health issues in detail and was told I would need to pay extra for administering medication to one of them who was suffering with an ear infection and allergies. When I picked him up his ear infection was WORSE, his allergies much worse and he had developed a skin infection that was bright red and visible, and his anxiety was off the charts in spite of being on anti-anxiety medication. Both of my dogs smelled of urine and when I unpacked the remaining food, treats, + medication, it was obvious that they were not provided with all of their medications or treats.

The owner said, well, since you called numerous times..(caused they NEVER answer the phones) and you continued to ask the same questions (Cause they NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE) we feel like its best you choose another kennel, there are plenty of great kennels around. So I said...so you're upset that I called 3 times and left messages about availability, then on the 4th day of no return calls to me, I texted you to see if you were still in business. THEN, you finally call me , 4 days later and say you are booked up on the days I asked for that are 5 months away. REALLY... She said, well we feel its best you find another kennel, and we can't drop everything we are doing to answer your calls. Im really not understanding how she runs a business like this. I told her that I just referred 2 people to her kennel in June, and she going to treat me like this, my messages weren't mean or hateful at all. I just asked for a certain date and asked if they had availability. She said, well thank you for the referrals......ARE YOU KIDDING ME! THIS IS POOR OWNERSHIP RIGHT HERE. I looked at the owner's website www.camp-ruff.com which describes their facility as a "lux camp" for dogs and puppies. I was intrigued and called for an appt to view the property and see the operations. I was met by the Camp Director/Owner, a delightful, sincere woman named Lucinda. She greeted me and my dog and proceeded to show me the camp home, which is divided into sections based on the needs and behaviors of the various dogs she was boarding. She listened to my description of my dogs needs, habits and observed her to judge how she would behave w other dogs. One by one she let a dog out from the house, where they have their "sleep over", cautiously to see what my dog would do. As the animals were about my dog's size everyone seemed to accept each other. Great news! Lucinda decided to take the next step by taking my dog w the small pack for some exercise on the trail in the woods behind the house. The dogs were running around having a great time which relieved my anxiety that my dog might not like to be off leash but she was running and getting some great exercise and learning to enjoy the pack mentality. No fighting or misbehaving, perfect! Lucinda works tirelessly to pamper the pooches morning and night. Morning feedings, evening feedings, medications and always careful observations of the pets. They all sleep like happy babies when the day ends in a real home environment. Prices are in line and reasonable I think for an overnight stay of $44 including feeding, walking, playtime and careful observation by someone who is highly qualified and very knowledgeable of pet behavior. All animals come in contact w other pets only when owner has documentation for boarding such as rabies vaccination, bordetello. This place is a well thought out and safe place to leave your precious pet while you are away. So relax, they got your back!

I'm very particular who my pets go to see, and have had some awful experiences in the past. I have a very fearful, but non reactive large breed dog, and they are wonderful with him. The vet/vet tech came in, and sat on the floor with him, and he doesn't even take treats from "strangers". I was genuinely shocked when my dog approached her and allowed her to pet him. They recognize my dog when he comes in, and have outstanding customer service. I also bring my cat here, but he's very easy going and loves people, so he would be happy anywhere. Went ahead and sat down in the lobby around 4:20pm to wait to speak with the vet about post-op info. At 4:55pm I finally got to go into an exam room to wait for the vet. Great! Time ticks on. Around 5:20pm, still no vet. I was mildly annoyed but it's the end of the day. Oh well. I knew they closed soon, but wasn't sure exactly when, so I opened the exam door back to the lobby and asked the lady at the desk what time the closed. She said 5:30 and that the vet will be in shortly. Okay cool. 5:43pm vet FINALLY walks in. Super friendly and apologetic. Seems like she's had a bit of a day. So I just continue to be polite. All in all, I'm chalking it up to bad luck, but I will say, waiting over an hour and a half to pick up my grandmas cat was exhausting and I don't know if I'll ever take any of my pets there.
