The Canton House on Buford Highway is my family's go-to for authentic Cantonese dim sum in Atlanta. The food is always up to expectations each and every visit. Having been at least once every couple months for years, it's our Chinese comfort food as dim sum is meant to be. Although I would recommend arriving at anytime they are open, we find the absolute best time for dim sum is to arrive right at opening on Saturday or Sunday. This time lets us beat the wait, get a great table fast, and the food is super plentiful, hot and fresh out of the kitchen. The chrysanthemum tea is a must have and complements the food as a perfect, tasty, and just sweet enough palate cleanser (although I would prefer to add the rock sugar myself to my tea, they serve it with sugar already inside the pot). For the absolute best pairing with your chrysanthemum tea, make sure to save room for the awesome pineapple buns while supplies last. They were out today and we all collectively cried (will be going back just for the pineapple buns soon...we are just not complete without them!). We love all the dishes, but our absolute favorites (outside of the pineapple buns) are the pork spare ribs with black bean, the beef rice rolls/noodles, shrimp dumplings, and turnip cakes. Add some spicy sauce to the spare ribs and turnip cakes to really set them off! For iced coffee lovers who like it really strong, don't pass up on the iced coffee. It has legs that are strong enough to walk, but completely complements the dim sum with a little extra boost to help you enjoy the day. So, I challenge others to find a better dim sum place in Atlanta. That is why Canton House earns my 5th star and looking forward to getting my pineapple buns (really) soon! read more

I was quite surprised that I was able to get a table when I went on a Saturday 11ish AM (peak dimsum hours!). Good service with the push carts rolling around passing the tables often. We started with the flower tea, amazing choice! Sweet and warming, nicely aromatic. Perfect start. Then the dim sum carts rolled in and we chowed down. DISHES I ORDERED - Siu Mai: Not the best I've had. Quite oily on the outside, but the flavor isn't bad. It does...taste like siu mai. It's just nothing spectacular - Chinese Broccoli: A classic! Very good - Beef Chow Fun: A very chewy and bouncy home made flat noodle dish. Savory, salty, and flavorful! Good amount of tender beef too. - Shrimp Balls: Crispy and fried on the outside, yummy, with good big shrimp ball. Yummy classic sweet and sour sauce too. Delicious - Egg Rolls: Good, not too oily, a normal egg roll - Spare ribs: Possibly my favorite dish! This is my go-to spot for dim sum around Atlanta. This place has plenty of seating but it can still fill up fast. It's best to get there early on the weekends to avoid a long wait time. There is plenty of parking in front and behind the restaurant, including handicap spots and a ramp to the entrance, making it accessible. They have such a variety of dim sum, but my favorites are the turnip cakes, shumai, and spicy pork spare ribs. I love finishing off with a red bean bun for dessert too! I highly recommend trying their Peking duck too -- you need to order that off the menu. It comes with tasty bao buns and hoisin sauce, and they chop it up in front of you. It's such a fun experience and tastes delicious too. The servers are all very friendly and helpful. To be honest, our first visit (about a year ago) was absolutely terrible. The servers were unfriendly, unhelpful, and condescending. We left after ordering only two dim sum items. Fast forward to 8/2025. We decided to give them another chance because they were highly recommended by a fellow Yelper, and I noticed the recent reviews were all positive. I'm glad we did, because the staff was friendly and accommodating (not at all like they were previously). It was a complete 180 from our previous experience. We were able to try more items because we actually received menus, and they were all really good. The chicken shu mai was my favorite. Just a heads up, it was pretty cold inside when we went, so I'd recommend wearing something to cover your arms to stay warm, and order the hot tea :) read more

Stopped by for a midday lunch with my coworkers and we had a blast. On arrival we were quickly greeted and sat, even without a reservation. My coworker had been to this location before so she was a pro with the menu and made sure my first dim sum experience was top tier. I loved trying all of her favorite dishes and reviewing the menu for a few options I wanted to try. Everything we tried came out fresh and hot. We really enjoyed the ambiance and the family size dining options. My parents and I arrive at 10:40 AM on this Saturday morning, and there were already a lot of tables filled. Staff was extremely helpful and gave us a close table as my mom has difficulty walking. Immediately the carts came with an assortment of dim sum dishes. My mom loves chicken feet and got two I enjoyed the fried shrimp ball and the vegetable which was like collard greens. My dad enjoyed his dishes as well. We tried to come on Christmas for dinner, but the line was out the door. My parents enjoyed the dim sum! read more

This is the original location. We arrived when they first opened. Service was pretty good as we were seated quickly and our hot tea arrived shortly. The carts with dim sum was a bit slow to come around but decent choice options between fried and steamed items. My personal favorites were the shrimp siu mai (skip the shrimp ha gaw- unfortunately they seemed to have changed how they made them and were extremely bland), shrimp rice rolls and the shrimp wrapped in tofu skin. Go for the egg tarts - perfectly sweet and flaky and the red bean sesame balls. Will skip the mochi next time as they didn't really have a good mango flavor. Overall still a good stop for dim sum. Pleasantly surprised when I was expecting a disaster. Let's get the bad out of the way first. So, service, started terribly. We sat here for 20 plus minutes on a Tuesday waiting to be served, and they weren't busy. It's a big restaurant and 1/2 was closed off. They still had 4-5 servers. My brother in law finally had to say something to the hostess and we were approached after another few minutes. Admittedly, after that, service was great. So, not taking too much off for this, but still need to mention service is apparently spotty. Second, menu. Chinese place and the lack of tofu options for my wife was disappointing. Now, again, in fairness, they added tofu to a vegetable dish she asked for and my wife picked the restaurant. So more our fault since we looked. Still, they have been cooking with tofu for a millennia. Very surprising for a Chinese restaurant to have almost no tofu options on the menu, and the ones you have also have pork or beef. To the good-everything else. We got a lot of food and split most of it, but I specifically ordered the egg drop soup, chicken garlic shumai, and the chicken with veggies stir fried rice noodles. All 3 were awesome. Yea, soy sauce was needed but unless you get a hot or sweet and sour or something drenched in another sauce, soy sauce is a given. I loved everything I ate, including the fried rice someone else ordered, and the rice paper steamed shrimp dumpling thing that someone ordered. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It's a very basic Asian restaurant. Nothing all that ethnic or theme. My wife and mother in law loved the chandeliers, and it did make for a pretty and pleasant dinner, but if you're looking for over the top ambiance, that's not here. It's just really good food, mostly catering to meat eaters, with touch-and-go service. I would come back solo but I wouldn't subject my vegan wife to it again. read more

Spacious dim sum restaurant with rolling carts that wasn't too busy on a Saturday noon! Got seated immediately for 2 which was a shock coming from the Bay Area, CA where every dim sum joint has a wait. Food was a solid 3 here, not amazing but not bad. Includes all the standard savory and sweet dimsum fare with a bit more. Milk tea and Vietnamese coffee on carts were new for me lol. My favorites were the sweets - great egg tarts with flaky crust and smooth custard and the liu sha bao - not sure what it is in english but steamed bun with runny custard. The service was great though - carts came regularly and it was pretty English friendly - first time seeing some young high school/college aged kids push cart instead of all older aunties! One of the guys helping us was very kind and immediately brought us what we asked for when we couldn't find it on the carts. We also requested the liu sha bao and he said sorry it's gonna take 10 minutes. I assumed we would have forgotten because it was starting to get busy, but he brought it to us after 10 minutes! We were pleasantly surprised. I might try other dim sum spots before deciding to come back, but this place is pretty solid especially if you are trying dim sum for the first time and don't know Chinese since they are English friendly. As someone who had never had Dim Sum before, all I can say is, this was bad for me because now I can see myself being addicted to it! Canton House was so delicious. The food was authentic, flavorful, filling, and just overall great! I really enjoyed the cart service and being able to have different things come around for me to try. My favorite things I ate were the Short Ribs , Steamed Taro Buns, and Original Chicken Shumai. We came on a Saturday around 1:40, so i'd say it may be better to come early to have more options, but its very casual and you can start eating immediately! HOUSE have I not written a review for the first dim sum restaurant I have ever visited in Atlanta, before I even moved here in 2009. Canton House is an institution and a classic. My most recent visit was in 2022 - although I haven't been back since. We came for weekend dim sum and didn't have to wait for a table when we were seated at 10:30am. It quickly got busy as we were eating. Starting at 10am on weekends, dimsum dishes are delivered by cart - the dining room is large but spread out and we were able to get quite a display of food pretty quickly. Everything is solid - nothing mind blowing but when you're craving cart-style dimsum, it works in a pinch. Definitely one of the better dim sum options on Buford Highway. read more

This is the go to place for Dim Sum in the Atlanta area! The food is fresh and delicious. My buddy and I shared steamed shrimp dumplings, sticky rice with chicken, and steamed pork from the carts. See pictures. All were very good. There is also menu order, but we did not try that. Price is very reasonable for the quality. Service is prompt. If you order from the menu, they bring it out from the kitchen. But our favorite is to wait for the dim sum carts, get description of each, and make our selection. Great large seating area with large tables for big groups. Very open and inviting place to dine. We had lunch here after a hike at Stone Mountain (see separate review). Ya gotta love a place that brings a cart to your table to box leftovers table side. Very large dining room and when not full they pull a divider and serve on one side, which is nice and you don't feel like your eating alone. When I came the first time they did not do cart service in the evening but the second time it seems they started doing it in the evenings and they came around several times asking if we wanted anything so it seems their cart service is pretty good! Their fish maw soup is absolutely delicious! And everything else was pretty good as well! I have no complaints. The second time I came with my parents and it was really slow to even get a table, even though half the restaurant was empty but the waiting area was PACKED. Not sure what was going on there. Several people had reservations and we were all packed in the waiting room so that was a little frustrating, especially for the people with reservations I would think. Once someone got to us though, we were seated right away. My mother loved the rice noodles that she got! She wouldn't stop talking about it and it was indeed delicious. Their portions were very generous. The cart service people were on top of it but the normal servers were lacking a bit for sure. FOOD Probably the best summer I've had in a while and it is a lot better compared to the ones I've had in Texas. Xiao Long Bao - Very nice and the soup tastes so perfect and texture is amazing. We also got the shrimp shumai, scallop and shrimp dumpling, spicy chicken feet, shrimp and chive dumpling, shrimp dumpling, beef stomach, beef tripe, pork and shrimp shumai, barbecue pork bun, and beef rib. Everything was super hot when it came out and tasted delicious! VIBES Just like any typical traditional dim sum restaurant where there are tables with lazy suzans as well as smaller tables. It was wonderful. We waited for a table but it was so worth it. I grew up eating dimsum in NY & NJ....this is a treat because there are none in Augusta Ga. We were in the area and headed back. I picked Canton House. Greeted and given a buzzer and we waited. Once seated, drinks and I asked tea and we started right in on ordering. I ordered the sticky rice,fried octopus, dumpling,steam bun,Chinese broccoli,tripe,chicken feet. Everything was hot delicious and fresh. Super authentic dim sum experience! You can't go wrong with any spot on Buford Highway, but Canton House is a can't miss if you enjoy dim sum. It's one of the few places in metro Atlanta area that serves authentic dim sum on tea carts. The carts come by quite frequently, but you can also make requests for an item if you don't see it on the carts. I especially love the drink cart! They serve soy milk and Thai iced tea in cute bear cups. It's always busy on the weekend, so be prepared for a wait. But it is so worth it! read more

I really like Canton House! It is usually pretty busy in the mornings on the weekends, but that is to be expected at a dim sum restaurant. Depending on the day and time, it can either be lively or a bit more quiet inside. The service is usually good, but sometimes it can be slow. It is nothing that bothers me too much because the food is pretty good. Whenever I go here with my family and friends, we usually order Chicken Feet, Shrimp Dumplings, and Sliced Taro Shrimp. I really like the chicken feet! It tastes good and the skin is soft enough to chew and eat. I am also a fan of their shrimp dumplings with soy sauce, as well as the sliced taro shrimp because of its crispiness! I also like ordering their Beef Chow Fun to share family style. There are too many foods to review individually, but the tastes here are familiar and wonderful to anybody indoctrinated into the ways of Dim Sum. Pricing is on par and seating is comfortable. I have eaten at Canton House for many years now and have always enjoyed the food. There are times that they are so busy that it's utter chaos to find a place to park & wait for a table, but we got lucky on a Sunday morning and it was not too busy & were seated immediately. I've had many different things off the menu, but the BBQ duck is one of the standouts in my mind; perfectly seasoned & cooked. I also really enjoy the dim sum but the availability of different items can sometimes be a challenge. Meaning the same cart comes by several times, but the items you really want don't show up until you are full! At any rate most of the dim sum items are very authentic, with a few misses. It was a packed restaurant, but the food and service were still top notch. The Dim Sum here is authentic, delicious, and are pushed around via service carts (the best kind of Dim Sum)! The restaurant has traditional seafood restaurant / banquet hall vibes, and is not far from the BuckHead Bars (10 min drive). Tea was good and the appetizers were as well; Appetizers + 1...ordered the House Lo Mein and was disappointed when it came out. Initially it had no shrimp. The larger tables have a lazy Susan in the middle which makes sharing easier. The server takes drink orders (we had hot tea and my daughter had boba). Then you will see staff members pushing carts around with all different types of shareable food. You ask what's on it and if there is something you want, they place it on your table and mark your tab. At the end, you pay for what's on your tab.
