Brod will basically make you anything you like, and I mean anything - it's kind of like the savoury version of its neighbour Shaky Jakes. I last ate here at lunchtime, and as such, plumped for a rather fancy chicken tikka sandwich, but this place is as good for breakfast sandwiches as it is lunchtime. They do the usual plethora of unhealthy English breakfast sandwiches (you know, bacon, sausage, egg, grease) and open at 7:30, meaning you have time to get one in on your way to work/early lecture. The only criticism I can think of is that the service is often quite slow, but Brod does usually pack out at lunchtimes so this is kind of expected. Anyone who wants confirmation of quality of Brod's sandwiches should be informed that this tiny independent business has managed to hold its own for years despite a Subway opening directly opposite.

I'm sorry bread, I still love you but I think we need to see other people (some of the time). While on a recent jaunt to Leeds for work, what I really wanted to do for lunch was go to either Friends of Ham or Bundobust, I decided to be sensible and leave that to a trip for pleasure rather than business. Brød was conveniently located near the Civic Hall where I'd spent the morning so I called in on my way back to the train station. I then spent the first fifteen minutes of my train journey staring wistfully at my lunch having decided that I couldn't eat it until midday. When I opened the box to take a snap it smelled delicious which was quite distressing. It tasted pretty good but not as amazing as it smelled which was a bit of a disappointment. The salad part was a bit sad, but it did take the edge off eating a box of cheese for lunch. And sadly there was no option for a raita or other yoghurty style dressing so it was undressed. There was plenty of paneer though so I can't complain too much. I guess next time I'll have to just get a sandwich as I don't think the salad box really panned out.

Whilst I will admit, the fish and chips here are nice, Nash's Original Fish and Chip Restaurant isn't the best I've ever tasted. And it's when someone hauls such an accolade on a place it's more of a let down than if you'd have just been told, "here's a nice place to go for fish and chips". Nash's is a restaurant in the same way that McDonalds is a restaurant, it's not really, it's a nice and clean place to sit down in twos or in groups and eat some fast food without having to take it outside or home to eat it. The staff are lovely and enthusiastic and the fish is lovely, and portions are rather large, they come in four sizes, small, regularly, large and giant. I never did see what giant looked like, but if the regular was anything to go by it musta been HUGE. As to be expected these days, the takeaway version of the food prices are lower than the restaurant prices, but in my opinion, with so much fish and chip shop competition, they could do with making the prices a bit more on the modest side. Veggie lasagne and a salad £7.50? I've paid less in a rather nice Italian restaurant. In Blackpool, which serves some of the finest fish and chips in the country in my humble opinion, you can get fish, chips, mushy peas, a slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea for a fiver and it's divine, here they do meal deals too. Fish, chips, bread and butter slice and a cup of tea for £8, if you want mushy peas (which is the law) you need an extra £1.50. So it's £9.50 for fish and chips meal to eat in. Too much I do believe. Nice, but average, not the best in the country, and not really the best in Leeds. Sorry guys.
