Always helpful, always well-staffed, always clean. Having a large family, we are there pretty often for movies, books, and the special programs. Of course, there is a large selection of books, but it's the other stuff that my family loves. Its downtown location also provides convenient internet access for a large amount of the population, I think that's an excellent service to the community!

The strengths of this library--the size of a small home with three or four rooms--are its multi-county genealogy resources, the children's reading area and the reference section. You won't find banks of computers, nor will you find a large reading room; just a very traditional, small town library across from the old Vienna (pronounced VY-anna) Court House. You can also buy books by local authors and genealogy reference materials directly from the library. Pay close attention to the hours: Open every day, 1pm-5pm; closed Thursday & Sunday. There's parking in front and around the courthouse.

I love this library. Its selection of books is often hit-or-miss if you're looking for something in…read moreparticular, but it's great if you like to roam and stumble upon some gems. The large and historic building feels tucked away on a little brick lane, though it is right in the center of town. Also, and perhaps more importantly, the staff is wonderful. All the women who work there I've encountered are friendly, eager to help, and so nice to me and to each other. I go to this library as often as I can.

Commanding a view over downtown Cape GIrardeau, this beautiful structure was completed in 1854 (and…read moresurvived the Civil War!) designed in the Federal style. It is two stories and includes a hipped roof and cupola. On a Sunday afternoon, the building was locked and secured so no opportunity to tour the inside. The outside, however, is stunning including the stairway down to the riverside neighborhood, the fabulous fountain (dedicated in 1911 in memory of the soldiers of the Civil War) and the bandstand. When you move to Missouri, you are subject to an annual personal property tax. To register your car in Missouri, you obtain a waiver so that you are not subject to pay personal property fees until you have lived in the state through the calendar year. The Cape office is on Lorimer Street to the right of the courthouse. Very efficient and friendly staff.
