The tower is not for the claustrophobic people out there, very narrow stairs and if two people were to walk up/down at the same time, it would be a tight squeeze. When you get to the top (60 something steps), you will see that the wall is very low, so if you are scared of heights, this might not be for you, even though it is really not that high up. When the bell rings at the full hour, hold your ears or you will be Googling doctors with ear speciality in Faro to cure your tinnitus. The Chapel of Bones is rather macabre, although I don't know the background and history behind it. Basically, a lot of bones and skulls blended into a concreted wall. An elderly tourist started speaking to me and complaining about the visit to the Cathedral: "there are hardly any bones, hmm, not enough bones here, I guess I have to go to the big city cathedral to see more bones. This is hardly worth my 2.5 euros". I couldn't stop laughing, Ladies and Gentleman this is your bone expert and he does not approve of the limited amount of skulls in the wall. I say it is still worth a visit when in Faro, but don't expect to spend more than one hour here. There is a vending machine in the Cathedral, in case you need a cold diet coke while you are praying.

We attended an Irish wedding at the church. Absolutely stunning as we Americans must appreciate…read morethings so old. While the Portuguese priest did struggle with the names of our friends (Keith = Kitty and Dierdra = Rita) the ceremony was lovely. We wish we had more time to explore this great little town.

While visiting family in Almodôvar we traveled to this historic church in the center of the city…read more This beautiful church has recently been renovated and the townspeople have done an incredible job of taking care of the building. The exterior of this church is gorgeous and when you enter this little building the alter is breathtaking. In the end this was an incredible stop, and when after we visited this church we found out that my parents had been married here. This was another reason this church is so special. If you are ever traveling in the area you should stop and take some pictures or put in a little prayer.
