I interviewed five different arborists before choosing Capitol Arborists. Somehow I got very different input about both the problems and solutions to my redwoods, Chinese pistache and other trees. Ultimately, I had Capitals Arborists remove five trees and prune many others in a fairly large backyard. Lisa, their estimator, is a straight shooter and I liked her no BS style. She is a bit gruff, but her knowledge is excellent. She also was frank about what services to have done by a handyman rather than an arborist, so helpful in saving money. The crew of four young men were super friendly, efficient and accommodating. They checked when there was a question but otherwise went about their work. The foreman - whose name I have unfortunately forgotten - was particularly helpful. He discussed what to expect with some of the trees and advised about how to prevent the stumps from re-growing. The crew cleaned up everything just like before they came. I was completely satisfied with both their knowledge and work and will definitely use Capital Arborists again. I called Capital Arborists because we had several problem trees on our property. The most serious was a Modesto ash that is over 50 years old and was splitting down the middle. Other tree services recommended removing it along with the other 3 problem trees. Jeff from Capital recommended removing branches from the ash to reduce the weight on it, putting cables between two branches and drilling two holes through the splitting trunk and installing two large rods to reduce the chance of futher splitting. They also reduced the size and weight on two other trees and only cut down one which was growing into a Redwood. The work that Nathan, Micah and rest of the crew did was outstanding. They were professional and courteous and did a great job of clean up. The price they charged was competitive with the other bids that we got. This is the third year Capital Arborists have been out to trim and care for my trees and I couldn't be happier as they do such an excellent job. They are always punctual, professional, friendly and very helpful. From the very beginning I was impressed with Jeff's knowledge and concern for the trees and his team reflects those same qualities. Initially I thought we would need to remove a redwood but Jeff explained why it wouldn't be necessary (bless him!) and went on to help me understand the squirrel damage to my red oak and what was wrong with some crepe myrtles that were struggling. I can't do anything about the squirrels but Jeff and his team do every thing they can to keep the oak healthy and the crepe myrtles look much better. Capital Arborist came to my rescue when I was in desperate need of saving a fallen fruit tree. They have been fertilizing and pruning my trees for several years as part of routine maintenance, but this emergency on my part was very scary. C.A. responded immediately when I called and their team came out and went above and beyond to make sure my tree was re-staked, pruned, and planted appropriately after the original landscaper did it incorrectly. The owner Jeff called while his team was onsite to ensure the tree was ok and made sure added measures were in place for its protection and make sure I was happy. Absolutely one of the the best overall experiences in terms of service and conscientiousness I've had from outdoor contractors over the years. My only complaints are negligble on the one hand (why do they have to start so EARLY?) and debatable on the other (they are not cheap!). But when you consider that the real objectives should be to do a job effectively, completely and expeditiously, this company wins hands down!n n And on top of everything else, their people are just plain nice! It was fascinating to watch a remotely controlled vehicle be positioned and lift the operator in its cage high above the ground where the trimming job could be accomplished safely and with minimal residue. We are so pleased with Capital Arborists! A very professional company, starting with Lisa, who looked at our problem trees, and gave us a bid on the spot. She also took the time to Look at a tree in our daughter's yard, and give her professional opinion. Nathan and ?Laurie, we're on time, properly masked, and knowledgeable about our problem trees. They worked very well together, and removed two maple trees whose roots were destroying our brick and concrete patio. We had a small confined space for them to work in, and they worked around landscape lights, potted plants and sprinkler heads, and all with NO damage. We have had Capital Arborists do a number of jobs for us over the past five years. They have always done a professional and excellent job. This past February we had them remove a damaged tree from my sisters house. She was very worried about the tree limbs falling down and injuring someone driving or walking bye. The team sent out by Capital Arborists did a fantastic job. They worked very hard and skillfully to remove the tree. Many neighbors admired their work during the day. The 2 & 1/2 old youngster from across the street was so impressed he wanted them to take down a tree in his front yard. Unfortunately for him his parents said no as their tree was very healthy. Capital Arborists go above and beyond to take care of my trees and plants. They managed to prune my 50-yr-old azaleas, which had grown to about 5 feet tall and bring them back to a reasonable height without killing them. Last week I answered a call from Jeff, one of the owners of Capital Arborists and my "tree guy". He said he was driving down the freeway, glanced up at the huge Pine tree in my backyard, and grew concerned that the tree was stressed. That's clearly above and beyond what one expects from a business, but Jeff takes my trees (your trees) into his heart. We've worked with both Jeff and Lisa, and they're both great. Knowledgeable, helpful, and in their annual visits to our property they remember what they did in previous years. We have a difficult back yard - big trees on a hillside, near a pool, one of them hanging over it, and they've been able to thread the needle of giving us sunlight on the pool yet keeping the beauty of the trees. Their crew is very efficient and friendly and they clean up after themselves. This last visit they were even able to trim a large tree which hung over a neighbor's yard without going into his yard. They'll also work on large bushes that are in inconvenient places near the pool, work that our gardener never does. They're great! read more

Jeff is like the "Tree Whisperer". He is an encyclopedia of information and shared his advice quite freely as we walked though my yard. Last summer, I bought a home with an out of control fruitless mulberry that was growing onto the house. Jeff came out and drew up plans to trim the tree and prune it to grow in the right direction. These folks are wonderful. We've had Capital Arborists take care of our tress for years. This year, with the drought, it was time to remove the front yard trees and replace them with one tree that was better behaved. That led to an entire front yard rework. After a consultation with Capital Arborists I decided to have them come out and feed the root systems of the trees in my yard a couple weeks ago and to return today to prune some which had become overgrown & unbalanced. They did a wonder job of shaping the trees they trimmed. They also removed one overgrown shrub which was crowding one of the smaller trees near it and that tree now looks so much happier. Capital Arborists came highly recommended to us by our landscape designer. We hadn't had our trees serviced for a while and they really needed a lot of work. Capital Arborists is usually booked out several weeks and are a little more expensive than some other services in the area, but it's worth the wait and the expense. When it comes to something like trees, I think you really need to trust someone that's reliable and has the expertise to take care of them. We tried a cheaper tree service several years ago, and they really botched up the trees. Capital Arborists left our trees looking beautiful, and totally cleaned up after their work. Our purple plum tree had a few large dead branches. Capital Arborists assessed the damage - for free! - and told us the many years of drought had weakened the tree to the point that they didn't recommend pruning at that time. He gave us pointers on how to water properly. I appreciate the honesty during the first visit, even though it cost them a potential customer that year. After a year with more rain and proper watering, I invited him back again this year and the tree was healthy enough to prune. Now, all our trees (not just the plum) look great! I had Lisa from Capital Arborist out in October to take a look at two of my large trees to see if it was time for a trimming. They were looking pretty bushy, but I wanted a professional opinion.
