After trying to cancel my insurance after being denied for years for a serious infection. I called to cancel it. I couldn't because you have to do so via your employer. The same day they sent Police Officers to my door, without calling or warning me. it was supposedly for a "wellness check". But the information they used was over a year OLD. I have CPTSD from life and now from our healthcare system. I was abused by men in uniform. So having them show up at my house at 10:30 at night was devastating. They were supposed to have given me a care manager the year prior but failed. Their solution for a chronic infection was to "get rid of your cat." read more

Tough review on this one, some of this out of their hands, some of it isn't. I've dealt with Capital Blue Cross several times over the last few years, much of my experience has been largely positive as I've never had to make a clam. Of the insurance companies I've dealt with, the monthly payment system for Capital Blue Cross is good, aside from being a little confusing at first, and the fact they don't accept American Express. Customer Service has been helpful for the most part. Due to dealing with Obamacare, there are times they cannot help you as you have to use the exchange for certain program modifications. How do they go down to two stars? Prices off exchange with no tax credits are awful and un-affordable. If you are middle class, single, paying rent, perhaps college and/or car loans, dealing with Capital Blue Cross is probably not an option. If prices were mid $200's when Obamacare started (for me), Capital Blue Cross would probably get four stars from me. Right now prices are so bad that it might be cheaper to pay the Obamacare fine for not having insurance. Overall, not a bad experience, just REALLY bad prices from Capital Blue Cross. read more

Horror Show for the disabled! Capital Blue of Pennsylvania is the worst coverage you will find! If you in anyway can join or find ANY OTHER insurance coverage PLEASE do so! Capital Blue of Pennsylvania and their LACK of coverage is slowly eroding the quality of my sons life and shorting his independence living. He had been working for over 25 years up until late November 2018. He has a cracked bone in his foot and needed acute rehab since he also has cerebral palsy, dystopia which makes muscles co-contract. He was working 30 hours a week, living on his own when denied Acute rehab by Capital Blue of Pennsylvania. He then was placed in a nursing home for rehab. Approximately 1 hour per day PT. I sincerely feel this borders on discrimination of a disabled person. Capital Blue of Pennsylvania is truly the worst of the worst!!! read more

Worst customer service setup I have ever experienced. If you call with questions they should return the call but never do. I have called multiple times with questions and I'm told a representative will return my call and never happens. Not a good system. Also went to an eye doc on their list and it turned out that doc wasn't so after reporting it they refunded me 20% but should have been covered 100%. This is the most abysmally inept company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. From payment issues, charging me twice for my premiums several months in a row, and just overall unwillingness to help anyone at their member services line. I actually work in a medical office, and deal with a ton of insurances from a provider side. I recently got Capital Blue from my spouse's employer (Hannaford in Vermont). It might be because my standards are low (I'm used to unpaid claims, terrible response times, etc), but I'm pretty impressed! Like another review I saw, I did deal with them telling me a preventative colonoscopy would be 100% covered even though I'm only 28, only to have them say the surgeon's office "billed the wrong codes". BUT I called Cap Blue about the $800 bill and they apologized profusely and resubmitted it. It was paid to the office in less than a week! Since I pay through an employer, my experience could be different than those using the health exchange, maybe? read more

If you don't live in PA I suggest going elsewhere. Their health and dental coverage isn't great and their customer service is also unhelpful. Had them tell me something on a call and then finally got someone in email but they told me something completely different. And it was vague and frustrating. Maybe you get better service being in PA, but maybe not from what ive read. Thought it would be like blue cross blue shield, accepted most places, but it's definitely not. What I'm reading in other reviews is accurate. We pay a HUGE amount for the insurance we bought after shopping very, very carefully. There are some extremely nice staff answering the phone and I always apologize for being er, irked. BUT. This company certainly does NOT live up to their claims and promises. I've spent hours ( and hours and hours ) on the phone ascertaining WHY medicine my doc has prescribed ( R.A. ) for decades is suddenly denied. Yesterday's was on the grounds of 'non-compliance' which they flatly refuse to explain ( probably because it's a made-up term for not covering something ). IMO, these denials are in the hopes you'll give up and either pay yourself or go without the medication. We've done that, like idiots but it's important to maintain the care plan a specialist recommends. Last month my email to them stated if we had any money left after the premiums we'd be donating to Bernie. We'll be shopping elsewhere for our next enrollment, be sure. A good class action might be helpful, who knows? Keep your ' promises ', BC or don't make them. read more

Nit the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with, but they screwed up on our intake paperwork, not is, and they won't honor what they advertised. After speaking with several different people over the span of 3 days, it was suggested that I wasn't intelligent enough or capable enough to comprehend what they were telling me, although I had what they said on paper in black and white. They cover most services, but highly disappointed they won't honor their contract. And I'd sue, but I'm terminally I'll and the case would last past the time I probably have left. read more

Literally a group of scammers and liars. We were told our children's doctors appointments, therapy appointments would all be covered. They've either denied our claims, limited their access to therapies, or changed the formularies so they would no longer have access to their medications. We pay them over $40,000 a year in health insurance costs, only to have our children be denied what their doctors prescribe. When we complain they tell us to either put our children on CHIP (who does not cover neurologist visits) or just stop paying for insurance altogether. Just today I was told "well, it's not the law anymore, you don't have to have insurance, so stop paying for it." This was their advice for a mother with children with special needs?!? truly have no idea how the people at CBC live with themselves or sleep at night. They are nothing more than greed, ignorance and incompetence personified. read more

Well, it happened again! More regulations. OK, I stopped getting two of my medications, and the Dr. prescribed me the least potent opioid available, Tylenol 3, which might with any luck, take the edge off my pain levels. Went to CVS, and sure enough, BCBS WON'T PAY FOR THE QUANTITY PRESCRIBED!! It's nothing more than glorified cough syrup! This isn't about reducing the amount of medications based on e overdosing. It's all about the insurance company just doesn't want to pay the pharmacy the already inflated prices. One day, the person with a lot of money will get a good attorney and find out why BCBS are putting all these regulations on medications. This is the worst insurance company with the worst coverage in the country. Avoid using this company ASAP!! When open enrollment comes around, I'm done with them. Stay away from Capital Blue Cross! Their claims department is terrible. They keep blaming my doctor for using the wrong "code". I called them before I was treated and they told me I was fully covered. After the procedure they blamed it on wrong codes. I spent hours dealing with them. Some doctors refuse to accept them because of their poor service. Do yourself a favor and find another insurance carrier. read more

The worst! Barely any doctors are in their network....sure you can out of network and pay through the nose! We pay $2300 for a family of 4 and they are constantly billing me telling me we went to the wrong lab, the wrong this or that, who they are affiliated with is constantly changing, Im guessing be ause they pay terrible! read more

This is the worst company to deal with, they keep sending me past due notices even though I paid on time, and provided copies of the checks they cashed.
