pepperoni rolls and pizza are absolutely sub-standard compared to Jack's bakery in Melvindale. I bought 3 pepperoni rolls from Caprara Bakery and between the three they had six or eight pieces of pepperoni per roll and hardly any cheese. they cost $3.50 a piece. this is highway robbery. today I went to Jack's in Melvindale where a roll had more pepperoni and cheese than all the Caprara's rolls had. Best place to get bakery pizza and pepperoni rolls downriver. Growing up in east Dearborn I am a tough critic of bakery pizza from Capri and Dearborn Italian Bakery but this place completes with the best. I also love the strudels, and my kids love the cookies! My ONLY grievance is that they don't carry pepperoni rolls without cheese unless you call ahead a day before and most times when I go there it's spontaneous. However it isn't a big enough deal to take away a star as the staff and very thing else about this little bakery is fantastic. But it would be nice if then kept some on hand every day. Recently moved to the area and happened to notice this small, unassuming bakery along my drive. It had the appeal of a local small business, which immediately caught my interest. I checked online and after seeing the reviews about fantastic pepperoni rolls, I knew I had to stop in. I've now been about 3-4 times so far. Pepperoni rolls are $3 out the door and you can't get a more filling lunch for the price, and they taste excellent. Always warm and ready to enjoy. They even have a small grocery selection with some very nice ingredients. Everyone that works there has been super nice every time I go. Quick service, too. My only minor complaint would be that the pop selection doesn't seem to be refilled too often so I can't always find a drink that I want. Overall a fantastic place! Check it out. read more

This place makes the best pepperoni rolls! My boyfriend has a cheese allergy so we call ahead and they make some for him with out the cheese. Everyone is so nice and helpful there too. They also make a lot of different cookies. The date ones are my favorite. read more

Note: this review is based on one visit and a spinach feta pie and peperoni roll. I wish I could give it a 4.5/5 but I'll bump it up to a 5. HOLY COW! try the feta spinach pie! The crust was a little sweet (which added to its flavor) and the inside was so savory and delicious. It had the perfect amount of spinach taste and saltiness from the feta. Unfortunately this was their only savory hand pie. Other than bread, every other baked good was a dessert, and maybe I'm crazy, but I'm not that into sugar so I didn't try any. I also got a pepperoni roll. It was good and had a nice hard outside and soft inside but I have to say it could use more sauce, cheese, and even pepperoni. I'd rate it a 4/5. I think once you've had a Jack's Italian bakery pizza roll in Melvindale you don't go back! You know what I'm talking about if you've had it. I'm talking over an inch of pepperoni and cheese and thick fluffy bread! This pepperoni roll while it was good was no opponent to Jack's. This was my first time going. It's pretty small but there was a steady line of people for a Thursday around noon. You could tell it's a popular bakery in the area. They also have a small selection of Italian groceries (cheese, pasta, sauce) and also sold sandwiches. The price is good too. I walked out paying about $5. I'll definitely be back! read more

I thought they were all about their hoagies and pepperoni rolls - but I've been getting their italian sandwiches lately, and damn they are tasty! Comparable to Alcamo's (which is a huge compliment), same price, with a way shorter line! Filled with mortadella, genoa salami, ham, provolone, and topped with peppers and their homemade sauce, it's so delicious (and lasts me two meals!) Plus, you can snag some of the best fudgiest brownies in the world, and their peanut butter cookies which are still by far my favorite! read more

Great little local Italian deli and bakery. I've only had a few of their items, but Ive been back for all of them. I highly recommend the pepperoni rolls and hoagie rolls. Nicely priced, freshly made, and quite tasty. I've tried a few of their pastries, as well, and they're all pretty good. They also carry a nice selection of pasta, deli items, and Italian food stuffs. Been following for awhile on Facebook and Instagram finally craving a Italian Sub,, oh my did I get a Mega Double Damn Meat Sub WOWED Filled with mortadella, genoa salami, ham, provolone, and topped with peppers and their homemade sauce, it's so delicious, fed 3 of us for dinner tonight, just to hot for cooking at 90 plus degree day. The lady that made it so excited she also took a photo. Wife got Famous OMG hot outta the oven Pepperoni Rolls, Pizza Slices and fruit filled flaky sticks and cookies too. Great example of a Dearborn/Downriver Italian bakery. Unbaked pan pizza, pepperoni rolls, and pastries. The unbaked pepperoni pizza here is good and cheap ($8). The baked slices are good, but not as good as the Capri in Dearborn, where they warm them up to order in the main oven. They also have started serving sandwiches, and I will try them soon. Excellent selection of Italian groceries and such (Think Nutella and Brioschi). They also sell essentials for the Downriver Blue Collar lunch crowd: 40's and Tall Boys. Cheers! read more

Good pizza rolls, though I prefer the hoagies with the ham. The rolls could use a tad more sauce but are good for the price and are quick to grab and go. They are not as good as ones from the pizza places. Italian subs are good here but I would double the meat next time. Good rainbow cookies. The middle of the tiramisu was the best I've ever had but they need to cut off the hard outer crust on the bottom layer. Black forest cookies were just ok, better with milk chocolate instead of white. I stopped in twice, both times looking for turnovers and both times they had none. The first time, the girl said they just got back from vacation. Ok but I can't imagine what the excuse is a few days later. It was early in the day both times. I had asked her if they have them every day and she said yes. I heard the brownies were good here but mine was terrible. It was rock hard on top, no joke. There is no excuse to put out brownies that are clearly extremely overdone. That was disappointing. I did eventually get an apple turnover and they are pretty good. The staff here is very friendly and some of the things were good so I may stop in again. read more

It doesn't get much better than this. I've eaten here dozens of times over the last four years, it never disappoints. The Hoagies and Pepperoni Rolls are among the best you'll get anywhere, the slices of pizza are good and all of the baked goods are phenomenal. My office is just a few minutes, about a mile, from this shop. While it's not great on my waistline, it is fantastic on my tastebuds. Very affordable as well. Nothing here will break the bank. Every member of the staff I've ever dealt with is also very friendly and helpful as well. You can't go wrong stopping in here. read more

I went here for lunch, for the first time today. Here's the breakdown: The Good: Everything, mostly. The food is fresh, tasty, and really inexpensive. Lunch for three of us (2 adults, 1 kid) came to $7.50 or so. The portions are large and yummy. I had a hoagie, and it was the size of a baby's head, stuffed with ham, pepperoni, cheese, and sauce. It was delicious. There were also freshly made cannolis, pumpkin rolls, and other delicious looking treats. I didn't buy any, and that took a LOT of restraint. The Bad: The food is all made fresh, but was cold when we received it. We went home and heated it up in the microwave (no big deal). But still; it would have been awesome if it was hot from the bakery. Also, it was slightly greasy (our paper bag was grease stained from the food) - but the yumminess far outweighed the greasy bag. I called Caprara looking for some rather hard to find Italian pastries and they ended up being exactly what I needed. I was looking for an authentic panettone at the last minute, and they had exactly what I was looking for. Not only that, but they had lots of other pastries I couldn't find anywhere else downriver. The service was above and beyond helpful, and they spent a good amount of time with me helping me figure out and decide exactly how many of what various deliciousnesses I needed. It all started with a very busy Sunday. We drove home from Tawas for a memorial, unpacking, and it was my daughter's birthday. We were going to make brownies, right before bed time for her to bring into school the next day. I put them on a 12x17 sheet. My oven is not a full sized oven, it's a slightly smaller wall oven. In order for the sheet to fit it was angled. So, half the batch was quite crispy lol. Fail! I called Caprara Bakery at about 8:30 am and told them I needed 3 dozen mini cannoli with chocolate chips by 10 am. They were very polite about my short notice, large order. I picked them up, on time and got them to my daughter's school. Of course, I grabbed one for me, and one for my son. They were very good! Since it was now my birthday (yes mine is the day after my daughter's), my sweet daughter, not knowing I grabbed a couple already, saved me one. I happily ate it.
