Well I was thrilled to try you guys out I saw the pictures the food looked great Channel 7 review made it look amazing. My wife and I were looking where we could get a nice sub sandwich, boom The Colossal feeds 50-60 we needed 2 for the party. Fast forward I called in today gentleman answered, put me on hold came back and was greeted with "what do you want?" "Yes can I place an order for 2 Colossal sandwich's." Before I could say what kind I wanted I was rudely interrupted "I said what do you want? What kind of sandwich!?" I repeated what I wanted He repeated "what kind of sandwiches do you want? I said can have it with Turkey Pastrami and Turkey. I was told no repeatedly on the turkey pastrami. -First the Turkey pastrami is too expensive it's an added $50 I said that's fine and he continued to persuade me to not get it -Second because now it's too much work to put on a sandwich because you know The Colossal is pretty big. (Seems like the works too much for them) So at the end of the day I went with the big corporate sandwich shop because I got my questions answered, they weren't rude, actually tried to upsell me instead of telling me no it's "too expensive" Lesson learned: teach your employees how to talk to customers. Capri deli food is always, delicious and warm. This place is a must try, must have and must return. Their service this last visit was subpar to say the least. I came in around 6 PM. There was no one else in line. I waited at the counter approximately five minutes and was not acknowledged. There were 2 to 3 girls and a male working behind the counter. You would've thought I was invisible. Nothing, crickets, no I will be right with you or anything like that. Once the line had three or four more people behind me, we were finally acknowledged. Once the service debacle was over, they returned to the delicious food and service to my table was good. The dining tables need some work. They are all unlevel and wobble horribly. I did use the facility and it was clean. However, the door would not close, it needs to be realigned. As I returned to my table, imagine my surprise to see someone at my table, cleaning up and throwing my plate and bowl away. Capri Deli I don't know what is going on over there but some attention needs to be paid to repairs ASAP. On this visit sandwiches were our choice but they also have pizza, pastas, salads which are all very good.Capri Deli is always busy but the folks behind the counter do a great job filling orders and moving the line. There are products you can also pick up for that Italian dinner you're making at home. Don't forget those tasty cookies. We were up in Azusa and looking to have lunch so someone suggested Capri. I had heard about this place in the past. My wife and I had already talked about sharing, possibly the roast beef or grinder. When I got there, I noticed that they had a Corned beef on Rye, which I should have ordered but my wife doesn't like Rye so we didn't order it. I will definitely have to come back. Place is bigger than I thought and they have lots of other options. They had lasagna's that you can put into the oven. They had plenty of salads. I had the small macaroni salad. It wasn't bad but I prefer a lot more mayo. Ended up ordering a large cold cut combo from which two of us ate and took some home. Service was great. I grabbed a large gabagool because I'm doing my yearly Soprano's rewatch, and it did not disappoint--freshest sandwich I've had since. The Italian sub and barbecue sandwich's are what we purchased. The meat was plentiful on the Italian sub there was also plenty of lettuce and oil and vinegar. Unfortunately, I don't live in Covina or around Covina. It's a little bit of a drive for me, but whenever I am in or around the city, I make it a special point to go to one of two places Capri deli happens to be one of them. The only thing that is hit and miss is the root beer on tap. It's always a 50-50 shot whether it's working or not. Holy smokes this food was fantastic and easily surpassed our usual go-to places for Dipped sandwiches and quite possibly for Italian food. We ordered a large Turkey hot Dipped sandwich to share and it was HUGE!! Each half came with it's own side of Au Jus with plenty of sliced pickles and fresh bread. Don't let the picture fool you; this sandwich was gigantic!!! At first we thought we would have to take it to go but we're happy to see thst they had a large seating area in the back. The service was great and friendly giving us good recommendations for our future return visits. They have plenty of sandwiches and salads to choose from, hot pasta dishes, as well as pizza. I ordered a "Colossus" cold cut sandwich for a party. Originally I wanted to order from Old World Deli but they're closed Sundays so Capri was a second choice that I figured would also be great. I was immediately put off by the $12 "cut fee" for cutting the larger sandwiches, as no other places I looked at charge you for something that should be totally included to begin with. Kayla took my catering order and was very sweet and helpful. On Sunday we picked up the food and brought it to our event only to realize the sandwich was cut maybe halfway through at most. We ended up having to track down a knife to cut it ourselves which was highly inconvenient at a rental hall. Monday I called the shop to let them know and talked to Steve. He said, and I quote, "yeah what do you want? That happens because our knives get dull from how many orders we get, we have to replace our knives every 6 weeks." Maybe not charge for a service you admittedly half-ass at best? Maybe don't blame your equipment? The food was decent, if it weren't for Steve's horrible customer service this would've been 4 starts not 2. I did go into the shop in person and got a $12 refund. I've been going to Capri deli for years and it always hits the spot. Love the cold sandwiches, turkey is my favorite but the bread-leas sandwich or salad is a great option when I want low carb. I'm a sucker for routine and usual go with cold, but the hot sandwiches are delicious too. We love all the selection of chips and bottled sodas that are the perfect complement to your meal. It can be a bit of a line if you come right lunchtime but it moves pretty quick, with efficient and friendly ordering and the open seating is nice to have a meal and go without all the fuss of sit down service. Takeout is a great option too if short on time, and the deli items of take and bake lasagna is always good too. All the way tucked in the back is a cozy dining area with 11 tables that can seat four and one long row of joined tables. Cute, green checkered tablecloths adorn almost every surface. Decorations include tons of framed accolades, news articles, and pictures along with an eye-catching surfboard. If you're looking for a classic Italian deli in the Covina area but have never visited Capri Deli, you really don't know what you've been missing for the past 60-or-so years. Not only is this one of the more established delis in the area, but it's also one of the best! Let me begin by stating that their hot pastrami sandwiches are a must-try (packed with lean pastrami, pickles, mustard, and available either hot or cold). I love hot pastramis so, without mentioning some of the local competitors, let me say that I think their meat is the leanest of those around. During Covid, it appears Capri's was unable to secure pastrami meat from their usual supplier, so these sandwiches were unavailable for a while - but now they've been back for some time. My only critique would be that on my most recent visit the menu had been revised to display only the availability of the "smaller" hot pastrami; however, I simply ordered two regulars. I don't know why the large size is off the menu but, if this was an ingenious marketing ploy to sell more, I bit! :D My other sandwich favs include their beef dip (with Swiss) and meatball sub, which is available on their toasted garlic bread, upon request. When dining in, I also recommend ordering a draught root beer from the counter (served in an icy, frosted mug) as the perfect pairing. Please don't assume that Capri's is just a grinder joint because this is a traditional full service deli with a variety of Italian dishes, pizza, salads, desserts, and the like. Many of their dinners (lasagna, ravioli, etc.) are also available pre-packaged for oven heating at home, too. We've ordered their sandwich rings several times over the years for parties or family picnics. If you're a fan of unique and hard-to-find bottled sodas, that is another reason to visit. The coolers across from the service counter are loaded with a variety of beverages. It's also one of the few remaining places that still carries milk varieties from Broguiere's Dairy. (Keep that in mind during the Christmas season, eggnog fans!) At peak times the crowd ordering can get pretty large, but there are usually multiple staff members behind the counter, so service remains quick and efficient. Similarly, the dining-in area is small, but always clean. Additionally, the walls display a good deal of local memorabilia - mostly from a time when this little Covina treasure was part of a Southern California that was still largely citrus groves and open fields.
