Every trip to Myrtle Beach includes a stop at Captain George's, so we were pleasantly surprised to discover there's one in Williamsburg too. It didn't disappoint. The atmosphere here is quite different from the Myrtle Beach location. Instead of a beachy vibe, it has more of a colonial feel that fits Williamsburg perfectly. We were seated at a cozy table for two near the fireplace, which made for a warm, relaxing atmosphere. As for the food--exactly what we'd hoped for. The crab legs kept coming, the peel-and-eat shrimp were plentiful, and everything we tried was fresh and delicious. If you're going for seafood, you'll leave happy. We arrived right when they opened, which turned out to be a great decision. The restaurant was calm and uncrowded when we sat down, but by the time we finished eating, there was a line and the place was absolutely packed. This is my go to seafood restaurant for AYCE snow crab legs. They almost always come out huge, and harm so the quality is really good. Too bad the nearest one is in Williamsburg, so it's like a 2.5 hrs drive for me. We only come here when we go to Busch Gardens or Great Wolf Lodge. My wife and I went to Captain George while on vacation in Williamsburg. We love everything from the cleanliness, quality of food and the service. Actually I can't think of any dislikes from our experience. First our server was excellent and kept refilling our drinks and removing our used plates from the table. This is an all you can eat buffet but I like many other customers mainly ate the perfectly cooked snow crab legs. I ate two plates full of crab legs,steamed shrimp and fried oysters. We've been going to Captain George's for years, usually on the weekends when it's busy. The buffet has a ton of options -- from the salad bar to chicken, steak, plenty of sides, and of course lots of seafood. They also have a separate line just for crab legs, which is nice, but it tends to get backed up since staff serve them directly, making the wait longer. The food overall is good, though the crab legs can be a hit or miss depending on the night. My least favorite part is the dessert selection -- nothing really stands out as tasty. Suggestion: Since crab legs are the main draw, it might be helpful if staff circulated through the dining area offering them, rather than everyone waiting in a single line. Had an amazing experience with my family. Went on a Saturday around 7pm during vacation. There were 2 lines - one was for parties of 4 or less, the other for larger parties. We waited less than 5 minutes. The hostess that walked us to our table was so friendly and asked us about where we were visiting from and if it was our first time there. Our waiter was also very friendly. He made sure he checked on us multiple times and was on point with refills and emptying our bowl for scraps. The food was absolutely delicious! If you like all you can eat snow crab legs, This Is The Place!! You can eat them to your hearts content, and if you have any room left, there's tons of other things on the buffet as well. It's very clear the crab legs are the star of the show here, tho. They were delicious! All the staff we encountered were wonderful, and our server, Andrew, was excellent. He kept our plates cleared and our drinks filled along with answering any questions we had. He really was delightful! The atmosphere is very nice, as is the decor. It's quite a large restaurant inside and there's plenty of parking. I hear it's understandably very busy in peak season. Tried out this restaurant in the off season. Mainly went for the seafood, which we ate a lot of! We enjoyed everything that was on the steam bar, some of the sides were a little lack luster and did not have much flavor (specifically the mac & cheese, rice pilaf and two of the cold salads). The Service is always amazing, best way to describe the experience is if you combine Cruise Ship waitstaff with an all you can eat buffet. The food is delicious and always hot and fresh. The main reason I go here is for the crab legs, and the are a 9/10 (only reason it's not 10/10, is the legs are thinner then other restaurants), plus there is a whole bar for non-seafood eaters. So here's the scoop. If you love crab legs, oysters, shrimp, it's an incredible value. The seafood that I tried was really good. The shrimp were not overcooked. My husband, the crab leg guy, was really happy with his food. If you don't like seafood, the food is ok. It's a little mass produced/school cafeteria-ish, which is understandable because a ton of people were in there. We have not tried Capt George's in quite a while and so I thought Fathers Day would provide a good opportunity for an update. We were pleasantly surprised at the short wait for a table, even thought the were pretty full. The waiter greeted us quickly but it was at least 10 min before we got our drinks. When we started sampling their extensive buffet, I noted that some of my favorite Capt George's dishes were not as flavorful as I recalled them to be. For example, I love their Seafood Pasta Salid but it was just so-so today - lacking in... something. A couple of dishes were piping hot but most were only warm - not bad, but when you have lots of goodies your are sampling, only-warm items on the buffet get cold quickly on your plate. There were a few pleasant surprises like the maranaded sirloin which was flavorable and tender, but again, only warm. Every thing was pretty good flavorwise... except for the crab legs which were absolutely anemic. They were pretty small and for some reason the minimal amount of meat inside was almost impossible to get out. Capt George's normally has superb crab legs - the best anywhere. But definitely not today. What a disappointment. The desert bar had their normally sumptuous selection, but today, several pans were empty and others were a bit dry, as if they had been sitting out. When I mentioned the issues to our waiter, he asked if I had tried the Rice Pudding. I told him it was one of the selections they had been out of. A short time latter he showed up with a saucer full of Rice Puding which was quite good. All in all Capt George's was passable, but they can be so much more. read more

Wow! Every time I come to a Captain George's I am never disappointed. We went to the one in Virginia beach last year and my fiancé loved it so much we wanted to come back for his birthday this past weekend. If you see this DONT PANIC its just because the doors are not open yet but trust me there is enough room and food to go around. He was smiling and friendly always coming to check on us just a pleasure to have a round. They have a large selection of baked and fried seafoods and for those who don't like or are allergic to it they have items like fried chicken, turkey, sausage, ham, salad, etc. They also have some great sides like corn, mashed potatoes, broccoli, etc. Some of the food they offer is a little different between locations like the one in VA Beach has steak, pizza, etc. However, it is a free for all when it comes to the crabs and there was an adult take away crabs from her last year. So, the fact that the Williamsburg locations has an attendee there passing out the crab legs and only letting you get so much at a time cuts down on any arguments or attitudes and ensures there is a constant flow. I highly recommend the baked clams, fried oysters, and crab legs! Did i mention they have a dessert bar also? They have everything from bread and banana pudding to fruits, jello, apple cobbler, cheesecake, carrot cake, chocolate, and white cake but my personal favorites are the flan and baklava! read more

Despite the holiday, we were able to be seated immediately upon arrival. The waiters were attentive and cleared plates and refilled drinks quickly. I really wanted to enjoy this visit, especially since my family has been coming here for years. Unfortunately, our experience at the Williamsburg location left a lot to be desired. Staff repeatedly questioned the children in our group about their ages, with one employee making an inappropriate comment that upset them enough to stop eating. We addressed our concerns with a manager and followed up afterward with corporate, but despite explaining how uncomfortable and disappointing the experience was, no resolution was offered. One of the more interesting buffets I've been to. The parking area is relatively big, but can fill up, luckily, we didn't have a problem with parking and were also seated instantly upon arrival. The seating areas are broken up in different sections, some closer to the food itself and others in a separate room, also separated by different names. There were a good number of parties here, small and large. The food was decent, hot and inviting. They have 3 stations I believe, one with mostly desserts, another with seafood and another with meats, sides, etc. All ranging from crab legs, steaks, and cakes. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and efficient. We also had a fun experience getting our photo taken during the end of our food consumption so now we've got another fun memory.
