Located downtown Maryport, near the harbour. A fine big room with an open fire is both bar and dining room. A classic selection of bar food on the menu and excellent, if pricey, seafood dishes as specials. (£15+).Everything is cooked well and in an interesting style. We were looking for somewhere to eat on our weekend in Cumbria. Found this lovely little bar by chance on Saturday night and it was so good we went back on Sunday too! Excellent value for money, huge portions but most of all very tasty food. I tried the local specialty of Cumberland Tatie Pot (lamb stew with black pudding), it was superb. My husband had the home made burger which was ginormous! Had to try pud too, lemon cheesecake, which was light and creamy with a subtle lemon taste. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was nice too. We loved the lakes so much we will be going back and without a doubt will visit Captain Nelson Tavern too. To think we only picked it because we live in Portsmouth, the home of Nelson's ship HMS Victory! read more
