Pleasant service and was quick but that's where the compliments end. $68 for 3 beers, chowder, a kids meal, and a puny very cold lobster roll and burger. The lobster roll and burger didn't come with sides. My lobster roll was so cold it hurt my teeth. Lots of claw tips too. We ate here on Friday, 10/26 after driving 3 hours to get to the Cape. What pulled us in was the sign for "Cape Cod Beer". We were glad we went in! They had a regular menu, plus a special's menu. Prices were kind of high, but I expect that on the Cape. We were able to sit outside on the patio which was wonderful. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered a cup of the crab and asparagus bisque, which was delicious. Lots of crab, and perfectly seasoned (and no corn in it, which I see far too often in chowder!). My husband ordered the lobster bisque, which he thought was the best lobster bisque he had ever had (we were told that all soups are made on the premises). I then had a turkey sandwich with grilled onions and cranberry sauce. It came with a bag of chips, which was o.k. I wasn't expecting more. My husband had a grilled salmon wrap which he really liked. My sandwich was good too. Had we had room, we would have happily tried their desserts, but we were stuffed from soup and sandwiches and beer. I have to say that I like a restaurant that tries to carry locally brewed beers, and out of all the restaurants we were at this past weekend, this is the only one that had Cape Cod Beer's Beach Blonde Ale, which was delicious! Our total bill was under $45, so that wasn't bad because we enjoyed our meal. I need to mention that the interior of the restaurant is really plain and dated, and had I been focusing on that, I might not have stayed. But because we were able to eat outside, and then really enjoyed our food, I'm glad I didn't judge this place based upon their interior decor. Yes, we plan to go back the next time we go to the Cape. Small family place with outside patio seating. We just wanted a decent diner style breakfast, nothing special...this fits the bill. However, I must say, I had the best eggs benedict ever here! The fisherman's platter was so tiny, especially for the price, also in a pool of lukewarm water and the shrimp were undercooked. The food tasted rubbery and the fries were really dry. Terrible coffee, greasy hash, soggy French toast, sweat pad pancakes, wet English muffins, plastic-jug style orange juice, huge pats of butter on everything. And the charge was $50. Stopped by with the family on a rainy night and on the later side. All four of us enjoyed our meals, especially the broiled seafood and the chicken parmagian. Terrible experience with this restaurant last week when visiting Chatham with my family. We chose this restaurant as the others seemed much pricier and/or had long waits. My daughters ordered the fish and chips ($20) and when it arrived, it was obvious it was mostly the tails, the fries were greasy, and the coleslaw one of the worst. My husband and I ordered broiled seafood platters and only the baked potato tasted good, the fish was fresh, but lacked any flavor and the portions were very small. This place is a tourist trap and is overpriced - beware! Walk thru beautiful Chatham and then drive to Kream n' Kone down the road for tastier, more reasonably priced food. read more

Fisherman's Platter was made up of a few of this and a few of that, at a price not in keeping with quantity and or quality. Twenty minutes after we left, heartburn off the charts. I was there this summer. It seemed like a cute little place. We sat in the small dining room. It took a while to get service, which made sense once we met the waitress. Then it took so long to get drinks & what made it worse was our close proximity to the bar. We could see the "bartender" hanging out. The frustration was compounded when the second round of drinks I had to ask again for & then was wrong. But that was nothing compared to my dinner experience. I had the lobster pesto & as I ate my throat & mouth started feeling odd. I'm allergic to walnuts but walnuts weren't listed on the menu. As my bottom lip slowly swelled, I checked with who I assumed was the manager (maybe owner?) & she said "Of course there's walnuts in it; that's how it's made." No, that is not how it's made. Using walnuts is a cheap substitute for pine nuts. My husband rushed to the CVS to get me Benadryl & I was okay. However, if I had a worse allergy I would have ended up in the hospital. I couldn't believe the callous attitude I received. If they don't care about customers' health & safety, then no one should risk eating there. read more

4 of us went back to the Captain's Table the weekend after Thanksgiving. It was a busy day in Chatham and the restaurant was almost full at 2PM. We started with the Lobster Bisque. The flavor of this bisque is one of the best we have had. A perfect blend of all the traditional ingredients. The special sandwich of the day was a grilled cheese and lobster sandwich on sourdough bread. OMG! This sandwich melted in our mouths. There was a generous portion of real Lobster meat throughout the sandwich. It was almost too much but so good we all gobbled them down. This is a a nice, family-style restaurant. No frills but the food is really good. Every time we come, we have a great meal. And, the staff is very attentive. You can see they all love to work here. There were a lot of people that came in that the staff knew-friends and regulars? We will definitely be back. We hope they have that sandwich on their menu by then. read more

I was looking for a nice relatively average priced restaurant near the water in Chatham for my girlfriend and I to eat dinner at. Captains table caught our eye walking down the street so we went in. Our server was friendly but a mess service wise... I ordered a soup for an appetizer which we waited for. Our entrees came after about 35 minutes with bread and water... there were only 3 tables being served in the entire restaurant so our food shouldn't have taken that long. She got a salad and I got the fish and chips. Not hard dishes... $22 for the worst fish I have had in my life. It was slimy and undercooked and you could tell it had been frozen for weeks and the French fries seemed like they were from a bag you can buy mass produced at your local grocery store. It wasn't until our waiter arrived with our entrees that I had to remind him of my chowder which came over lukewarm at best with clams as rubbery and undercooked as a spare tire. The "shrimp topped Salad" had about 3 1/2 shrimp in the entire thing. Not once during the entire meal did our waiter check on us so we ate our meals without beverage on an 80 degree day. I could see him through the window sitting at the bar with the other wait staff. Take the extra $10 and go to Bistro on Main about half a block down the road or go to Raw Bar but save yourself the time and trouble. "Fresh seafood" has no meaning at this place. We had lunch here on the outdoor patio. We were the only ones. We made a mistake and ordered the crab/asparagus bisque forgetting it is a pureed soup when we probably really wanted a chowder. Tasted asparagus but not crab and the soup was lukewarm. She did nuke my husband's soup when he asked her. I did ask for a bun with butter instead of crackers and she gave each of us a roll (warm) with butter which was nice. We ordered two sandwiches for three of us to share and the waitress gave us each a small bag of chips. But the bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado didn't have the avocado on it and after eating a third of the sandwich we noticed this and she took it back for the avo. Guess for the price we expected hot soup and a sandwich which was put together correctly. The other sandwich was I think a grilled cheese with cole slaw on, I didn't have this but the others seemed to think it was ok. We cooked better food, cheaper last night at the house we are renting, which makes us not want to go out much in this area. read more

My partner and I first discovered Captains Table when we house hunting 3 years ago. It was off season and the open flag got our attention and were looking for breakfast. The staff was really friendly and suggested the french toast casserole. It was awesome with blueberries and cinnamon. My friend got the irish eggs benny and said it was the best she ever had and that says alot as she travel for a living. We have been back several times for lunch and dinner and although we have come during some very busy times, the staff and the food (drinks anyone?) have been wonderful. Try the cod wrap for lunch. Dinner always has incredible seafood specials with fish caught daily from the local pier. Special cocktails, our favorite is the shark attack and day at the beach. We were told they only offer dinner in the summer so we will be back before labor day with our friends, but will enjoy breakfast and lunch into the fall as well. The Captains Table is our favorite place to have a meal when we are down that way. read more
