To start off the food is DELICIOUS!!! I always come back here for the food they also have great customer service, except today I went in & there was a gentleman waiting for an interview & it looked to me that they forgot about him, he was there when I arrived and was still waiting when I left. The WORSE thing about this is that the worker at the bar area told him if he was looking for someone & he said he was waiting for an interview & the man said WHAT NO & laughed about it, instantly the man waiting for an interview looked discouraged especially since he said it where customers can hear , that to me was a bully comment. I just recently came back for the first time since nearly 20 years ago, and so much changed! They expanded and seems like there may be another location as well! This is my second time coming here and the space itself is always busy. Their coffees seem to be popular. Ordered the lavender honey latte and it was delicious, the perfect balance of sweet. For the food, the house burrito was good, but it was a bit dry when you hit the middle of the burrito. Felt like it needed sour cream inside and cheese to balance the meet and potatoes. The same for the hobo skillet. Needed a balance, maybe even some diced vegetables like bell peppers. They just felt like heavy dishes. I came and enjoyed their strawberry crepes the last time, which were delicious. But again, the dishes feel a bit unbalanced. Either it's heavy on the grease to clog the arteries or heavy on the sweet to give you diabetes. Worth a visit, but I haven't found a dish I like that gives a wow. They did forget my plate last time, so everyone ate as I waited for my plate to come. I got the chilaquiles and club panini. It was cooked well, and the egg was over medium as requested. It was cooked perfectly. The problem is I didn't really taste much flavor aside from tomatillo. It was as if the chips were sitting in a sauce of just boiled tomatillo. The club sandwich was also too salty for me. I paid an extra $2 to get my side upgraded to fries and that was delicious. I've got to say... I'm super impressed by this place!! I've been here three times now and the staff and the food has not disappointed me :)! The food here is so good and the coffee is made to perfection! I've gotten a few different dishes here and their seasoning is absolutely a amazing! One of the waitresses named Pamela, helped my dad and I out the first time and she talked us through for what they are known for and customers favorites. They are known for their Chilaqulies which omg you definitely have to get it! As for drinks, I've gotten a caramel blended ice coffee and one of their signature lattes (amor de naty). Both were delicious! The taste of coffee and their other flavors are pretty balanced which is nice when paired with your meal. Overall this place deserves the 5 stars because of their amazing service, consistent delicious & well seasoned food, and their tasty drinks. This place has very good food! I really like some of their dishes and they do a decent job. It used to be one of our favorites years ago but in the recent years, it has dropped from 5-Stars to 3-Stars. Prices make it difficult to come here on a more regular basis and the service seems to be lacking compared to what it used to be. Today, we came after church and ordered three Cafe de Olla's. My daughter asked for cream for her coffee but we continued to wait as our waitress disappeared. When they brought out our food, which was very quick, my daughter asked again for the cream from the male waiter that was helping. He actually gave her a look, like disgusted or annoyed, he went to his area and he never brought over the cream. Had to ask the host to finally get cream for her coffee. The food was good. We are disappointed that the have removed the Poblano crepe, it was one of our favorites but what we did order was very good. My daughter and I shared the Crepe Combo with eggs, sausage, potatoes and a banana crepe. Everything was great. My son had the Big Boy breakfast. Man did that get a proper name. The feeling you get at caramelo cafe is a like you're eating at home. They make you feel welcomed. The setting of the restaurant is perfect! The food was a 10/10. Me being Mexican, I'm very particular which Mexican restaurant I eat at. But at caramelo cafe you feel like you're eating food your grandmother made. The chilaquiles were perfect! Finally got a chance to try this location since I've only had the one on Valinda. This location is much bigger and js bustling! We got two sandwiches (Chicken Pesto) and a Garden Omelette as well as some french toast (an upgrade from regular toast I believe). The sandwiches were good (3.5/5), but the omelette was GREAT. Avocado was perfect on top as well. Their crepes are what I would say are the star of their menu (refer to my review of the other location for those). I will say I don't think it's ideal to have these dishes come with potato chips and a (really sad in our case) slice of pickle, I'd have much rather the option for fries or homestyle fries. read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon all the way from Hawthorne near LAX. Small wait about 20-30 minutes for a party of 5. Quick to get seated and get started. Only had to wait a few more minutes for the El Gordo to be ready (everything else was done at pick up time). Brought out the family for breakfast Sunday morning to this little breakfast spot we've been hearing about. Literally a hole in the wall, you might miss it! As someone who likes to view other people's opinions on places, it was only natural I looked them up on Yelp. The ratings were good and the food looked delicious in the pictures! I noticed they had the option to check in through here so I did. Once we arrived about 2min later it said we were ready to be seated and to see the host. My only "complaint" would be having to wait an additional 7min after our table was supposed to be ready and the hostess not giving us a friendly welcome. Once we sat down our waitress took all our orders and had patience with my youngest sisters when they switched up their orders last minute. The food was pretty good as were drinks. Stopped in for breakfast yesterday and had an okay experience. Staff is friendly, but service is a little lacking. This seems to be an issue at both of their locations. The food is always delicious, but for the prices they charge, there should be better training of the wait staff and better service. We had to ask repeatedly for coffee refills, and no one ever came back to check on us after receiving our food. We had to wait for them to give us a check when we were ready to leave...and we sat there for quite some time to see if they would. I did notice that they've expanded their indoor dining area, so they can accommodate many more people, but it wasn't too busy on our visit, so I'm perplexed about the service. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. FOOD & DRINK: We started with a couple of regular coffees ($5.14 ea.), and my wife had a Strawberry Licuado, a Mexican style milkshake ($7.14), topped with whip cream. For our breakfast entrées, I ordered the Texan Skillet ($21.60), topped with two eggs over easy, and my wife had the Sweet Crepe Combo ($16.09) with two eggs and two strips of bacon. My mother-in-law tried the Pancake Combo ($18.38) which comes with two eggs, bacon, and potatoes. We also shared a side order of the Chilaquiles ($10.39) with a red chipotle sauce. I'm not usually a fan of chilaquiles, but these were the best I've ever had, especially because of the sauce! Everything was delicious and the portions are generous. We were able to take home leftovers for the next day. I so want to love Caramelo Cafè, but it's a little pricey and they just can't seem to work out the service issues. My niece ordered the basic Sausage and Eggs plate with a side of crepe mazapán and mazapán latte. The chilaquiles were good. A little dry for my taste. But they did give you extra green salsa on the side so that made it taste better. The carne asada was well seasoned. I'm glad I asked for the meat to be made medium cus it came out almost done. Portion was good for one person. The sausage and egg breakfast was nothing big to brag about. The crepe was good. They didn't overwhelm it with filling ... just enough of the creme and strawberries with mazapán sprinkled on it. The pancake was ok. I've had better. It was tough to slice with just a fork. I needed a knife. Probably wouldn't order again. The latte was good. Sweet if you like it. Service was ok. Nothing spectacular.
