We recently experienced an electrical system failure shortly after departing Redding (KRDD) Airport on a Friday afternoon enroute to our home airport in the San Diego area. The nature of the failure required a precautionary landing at the nearest airport which turned out to be Red Bluff (KRBL) airport. Once on the ground we contacted Cardan Aircraft Services to help us diagnose and repair, if possible, the fault so we could continue our journey. We made a fortunate choice in calling Cardan. Although busy with customer aircraft, they agreed to look at our airplane immediately. We un-cowled our airplane and began checking the alternator and associated electrical system. Cardan quickly spotted the problem. We corrected it, tested it on the ground, and were back in the air in about one hour. That was a big relief, as one of us had already begun calling hotels and rental car agencies while the other was working with Cardan on the airplane. We expected to be stuck at KRBL for at least overnight if not for the weekend. If we ever experience trouble in the air again that requires maintenance help on the ground to get back on our way, I hope to encounter another service business just like Cardan. read more
