Here in Helsinki, I've been limited to just a couple of mediocre bakeries known for their cupcakes. Then along came Elizabeth and her delightful delicacies! Her sugary sunshine brightened my son's already adorable three year birthday and I am so so so happy we ordered from her! We enjoyed the Chocolate with Snickers, Vanilla with Sprinkles, Pumpkin Spice, and Chocolate Coconut. All were huge hits with kids and adults alike. Elizabeth was so helpful with headcount and order, suggestions for flavours based on the sort of party we were having, and was (gasp!) nice, prompt, and super easy to communicate with. I have not had such an experience with a catering company or bakery in a VERY long time. I felt like questions I had were validated and welcome and I thought that Elizabeth was incredibly thoughtful and sweet with her responses. Thank you so much, Blondie Bakes! This place is literally a gem. Meant to be a cupcake shop from the same owners of Brooklyn Café, you will find a variety of cakes, sweets and a nice cup of coffee here. If you prefer, you can order and get your cakes to go - and even cater an event! I stopped here for a couple of hours to enjoy a nice magazine in Swedish (yes, it did take me over an hour to read it, but I made it), and have their specialty: Red Velvet Cupcake. Decor is adorable, staff is super nice, and I had a fabulous relaxing time. They don't have WiFi, but if you need to work on your computer just walk two blocks to their big brother.

The kauppahalli stall is adorably and overflowing with cupcakes, bars, candies, and mueslis, granolas, etc. Standout treat is the peanut butter-banana cupcake. I walk through nearly daily to pick one up. If they're out of the pb&b as I lovingly refer to my favorite food in the world, the carrot cake is also amazing. As is the meringue pie. I have it on good authority that they have American style cheesecake and I will update as soon as I've had it. Oh my god I love sweets and this is the best find ever. Don't tell, but I kind of like them even better than I like Kakku Galleria....eeek! ps - the lady who pushes the goods at the marketplace is awesome! People casually came and went, enjoying a chat, or a book...a very good vibe indeed. First off, let me say -- Helsinki as a whole knows their smoothies and juices. Whoa! Heaven for you fruit drinkers out there. While I didn't indulge in any of the incredible looking sweet treats and cupcakes I did have a hankering for a smoooooooothie. I requested that the girl behind the counter recommend me something without banana and with zero hesitation she pointed me to the second one down (forgive my lack of memory on the Finnish word) that contained avocado, peanuts (!?), apples and other green things. You can't find proper bagels anywhere in Helsinki and I jumped for joy when I heard about Brooklyn Cafe for the first time. I've been there several times and every time I hope for things to have improved. The truth is that the coffee isn't among the best in town and sadly the bagels are a bit disappointing. I've had both dry and soggy bagels there, as well as ones that lacked taste. The location is good, the place is sweet and they have WiFi. The service is very nice and there's a good vibe. Loved the three tiny and colorful tables they had outside during the summer. I really hope they'll improve their offering - I'm still willing to give them a chance!

Sävy was a short walk, and the coffee shop I found that opened the earliest. Though it's listed as being open at 7:30, they actually open at 8am. I showed up at 7:47, and happily waited the extra 13 minutes until they invited me in. (What else am I going to fucking do with 13 minutes?). I ordered a breakfast combo that included a croissant, granola/yogurt bowl, and upgraded my coffee drink to a double cappuccino. The barista asked me what perfume I was wearing because apparently I smelled good. I remarked that it may have been the woman ahead of me, but it happened to be the dude's girlfriend, so he was pretty sure it wasn't her. I wasn't wearing a fragrance but the air BnB had a Linden Blossom bath wash...anyways. I was feeling good about smelling good even though I felt like shit. I digress I was stupid hungry, so I demolished that croissant before my coffee drink and granola bowl was ready. It was buttery, flaky, fresh and delicious. "On point" as the kids say. I was too tired to remember to order oat milk with my coffee, so I drank it with whole milk. It was rich, and chocolately like I like my coffee drinks. I might pay for the whole milk later, but it couldn't be worse than the airline food I had yesterday. So fuck it. The granola bowl with yogurt was legit. Breakfast here just hits different. The presentation was great, and it had the perfect ratio of fruit, honey, and cinnamon. I had a little more time to kill so I ordered another single cappuccino with oatmilk this time (internally convincing myself it would offset the whole milk drink) it was also delicious.
