We just had some bar stools reupholstered this week. I am very pleased with the quality and look our new bar stools. As others have stated, you will not be wowed by the customer service. However, I did find them much friendlier face to face as opposed to our phone conversations. The pricing was great and they seem to really take pride in their work. Very old school "back alley" type experience. If you want bright lights and a beautiful showroom then this place is not for you. If you want old school craftsmanship and reasonable pricing, then I recommend giving this place a try. read more

Cardenas Upholstery upholstered 2 club chairs for me and they look fantastic. I was a bit weary because his quote was just so much lower than every other place I stopped to get quotes, but he was recommended to me, so I just went with it and hoped for the best. I'm glad I did. My chairs were ready in a week and they look exactly as I imagined they should look. I don't think I was an easy client as I needed new foam for the seats and I wanted them sewn differently than what had been on the chairs, and then I also had 2 different fabrics for different parts of the chairs. He did an old school hot rod for me and I was kind of particular about what I wanted and he grumbled a bit about what I wanted but told me to leave the truck with him for a week. I was terrified after the last couple of folks that had done work for me took multitudes longer than they had told me. The factory seat cover on my vintage motorcycle developed some tears. When I removed it I discovered the foam underneath had itself torn, which is what allowed the cover in those areas to stretch and tear. The seat is over 30 years old, so a replacement is not an option. I thought about trying to fix it myself, but I decided I should at least see what a professional had to say about it. I'm so glad I stopped by Cardenas. It seemed like a challenge to me, but to them it was just a standard fix. The gentleman who I spoke to was able to fix my seat on the spot. When the seat on my other vintage motorcycle needs repair, I'll be going to back to Cardenas. Now if only I could find somebody help me with my addiction to vintage motorcycles... read more

Over the years he's done a sofa, six chairs, valances (that he built, padded and upholstered -- they're great!) santiago cardenas pimps out car interiors mostly and he did a great job reupholstering my dining room chairs, gave me the fabric for free, and had them done in less than a day. the place is on an out-of-the-way street and kind of run down, but that means you're not paying extra for their overhead. i will definitely go there again and refer my friends... and you. :) read more

Cardenas upholstery did our second set of cushions for a chair that is a family heirloom. They were fast, fair and had high quality. The building is hard to find and definately low overhead, but that did not affect the quality. I read the review below referencing the poor leather quality. These people may do good work with fabric upholstery, but they are terrible with leather. I had an armchair and ottoman reupholstered by them. I purchased the amount of leather they advised and they approved using it. However, the leather was cut very badly and was very loose fitting. They reworked it by adding some padding, but it still is not very good. The worst part is that the seat has an area where the leather is rough & cracked. They said it was the neck of the cow, but it shouldn't have been used on the area of the chair that gets the most stress. This is sure to split or tear very soon. Also, when I brought them the hide I told them I could take it back and get a larger one if it was needed, but they said it was fine. What a waste of $325 for the hide and $180 for the labor. read more

I contacted this shop based on the glowing reviews on Yelp and it was a scary experience to say the least. I ordered my fabric based on the quote from the pics and measurements I sent in to this shop. Some was ordered locally but one in particular came from England and was a real pain to order with customs and $ conversions, anyway when I brought the first few pieces in I thought I was prepared for the location since my expectations were low, let me say "dump" is a compliment, it was raining and all the furniture is stored under a tarp in a parking lot. No one acknowledges you, you just wander around saying Hello, until someone bothers to look up from their work. Mr. Cardenas proceeds to tell me that the fabric yardages I ordered are insufficient. He then tells me he was out of town when Laura, I think her name was , quoted me and she made a mistake on the yardage. Red flags are going up, but I ignore them, fool that I am and leave several pieces that I do have the fabric for. I get home and try to add to my order from England and get an e-mail saying all of the prices Laura quoted are too low and the new quotes are about 30% more, he refused to honor her previous e-mail quote or even meet me in the middle. I have zero confidence in this shop at this point, and decide to pick everything up, but Mr. Cardenas said he already tore into some of the chairs, so I let him finish those and pick up the rest. Bottom line, the seat cushions he did complete turned out great, but the level of professionalism is close to nill. I really wish it could have worked out because he does nice work but I can't do business with people who treat you so badly and waste your time. read more
