Make sure to double check the insurance options before signing. The company sends over a contract with a default option selected (60 cents on the pound for damaged items). This was my fault for not realizing and requesting a change before signing the contract. I had a custom cushion made to repurpose a toy storage cubby for my daughter as a surprise on moving day. The movers dropped it and it was sadly damaged in a way that could not be repaired. Now I'm left with a custom cushion that doesn't fit anything else and unfortunately, I'm entitled to less than $20 for an item that would cost $400 to replace. Again, I'm taking accountability, but the moving company didn't live up to its name, though I do appreciate Customer Service following up about our negative experience. read more

Overall I had an excellent experience with careful movers and would recommend them. They moved my 1200 sq ft 1 bd / 1 bath apartment from SF to LA. We used their packing, loading, and unloading services. They packed everything with care and lots of protection. Nothing was broken at the destination. All the furniture was wrapped in blankets and plastic wrap. The quote we received was highly detailed and clear. Overall everything was very professional and each day someone from central called to check in. We have a ton of stuff for our apartment size. They used a crew of three to pack and load, and a crew of 2 to unload. My only feedback is that they should have had more crew to pack or more time, and a third remember to unload at the destination. On packing day, 3 packers did not finish packing in 6 hours. It took some significant time to finish packing the following morning during loading, and I continued packing a lot the evening before loading. They still got it done on time but that could have been improved with more time or people. Also having third crew member to unload would have been helpful. It was a lot for just two. Three years ago I used Careful Movers to move from Livermore to Portland. The experience was so bad I tried to forget it. But I can't. And here's why. I was quoted on the phone a price of over 8 thousand dollars. Guaranteed. On moving day they loaded all my belongings into a truck and then told me the load might be overweight and drove to the CHP stop to confirm. They came back and told me I was overweight and would need to pay for a second truck, another 8 thousand dollars! Apparently, they didn't have a larger truck. I had the new owners of my house coming the next day and had no time to hire a different company. Finally, the boss and I spoke, and he reduced the second truck to 5 thousand for a total of over 12 thousand. I originally contacted Bekins who came to my home and gave me a similar estimate of 8 thousand after looking at all my stuff. But I decided, unfortunately, to go with Careful Movers. I am still so upset at being ripped off by this company, where nobody ever mentioned anything about weight. Perhaps they were taking advantage of an older woman. I don't know. This was our first move in 16 years--and by far the most complicated. We were moving to temporary housing six hundred miles away to sell our home and find a new one. We had the load split between PODS which would store the load, and the movers who would take about a third of our household goods and professional equipment to the temporary housing location. I can't say enough good about Careful Movers, who solved a huge problem of packing and loading the PODS, and packing and loading the rest of it out to our new place. Ismael and his team were terrific. They were on time, friendly, worked incredibly hard and fast, and then delivered to our new apartment, up a long flight of stairs (unfortunately!). Nothing was damaged, everything was placed for us, and Ismael helped us make some last minute decisions, and readjusted in a really tight timeframe. They would have delivered the following day, but I wasn't sure WE would make it up there on time--but they were there bright and early the following day, as planned, and got everything done in record time. We've hired Careful Movers for four separate moves in the past 3 years. Two of our moves included two stops on the pickup or delivery end. My latest move was from the Bay Area (2 pickup stops) to San Diego. Here are the great ways they provide their services: A fair/reasonable quote. Their quote is not rock bottom, but they are insured, including workers comp, properly licensed and the price doesn't change when they pick up or deliver. Pre-move communication is consistently excellent. Pick-up is efficient, positive and friendly. My movers this time were Enrique and Ozman, who were friendly, positive and very professional. I was able to schedule my delivery with very reasonable accommodations for my schedule. Everything was delivered its original conditions. We just had our hardwood floors refinished and they protected the floors with mats. It was a big help to us that they placed a large 9' by 12' rug and assembled our bed. I requested moving services from San jose to Livermore and I received an estimate from Mercedes who came over to my house. I was offered 3 trucks and 6 helpers over a period of 2 days. The movers arrived exactly on the time promised on day-1. The packing and loading was done in 4 hours for a 4 bedroom house which was very impressive. The charge was over 3800$ but worth for the effort. The stuff was delivered the next day and the whole process took 4 hours. The movers did not mount the TV or wall art pieces based on their policy which I did not know about. So I will have to request TV setup etc. The movers took greatest care possible while placing furniture. They were so careful and placed everything just the way we wanted. Infact they went above and beyond and gave suggestions at placement of furniture. We changed our minds couple of times with heavy furniture and they were happy to move it after already placing it. The guys are super efficient and really took care of minutes details. I highly recommend this company. It's hard work so I left a tip for 6 guys. read more
