The receptionist said I could come in right away since they accepted walk-in patients on an ongoing basis. The waiting room was busy and noisy. I was taken aback by a rude sign next to the reception desk admonishing patients to keep track of their children. The receptionist was courteous. I couldn't believe how quickly they were turning around patients since the reviews I'd read of Dr. Kumar mentioned his thoroughness. I waited about 20 minutes to be seen, which I thought was reasonable. A nurse sped through my initial assessment without a single pleasantry. When the doctor walked in, I was very surprised because it wasn't Dr. Kumar. She introduced herself as Suni Jacob. I assumed she was an M.D. but now see she is an APRN. No one felt compelled to tell me that a nurse and not a doctor would be examining me. Had I known, I would have made an appointment elsewhere or with Dr. Kumar for a later date. Suni's eyes glazed over as I explained my symptoms. She dismissed my concerns, answered my questions tersely, and showed no trace of bedside manner. It was clear she wanted to get me out of there as soon as possible. If my experience is any indication, this practice gets away with providing substandard care because their patients have limited options. I have never received such poor medical service.

All 3 visits she referred me to the hospital ED with urgency. Her suspicions were correct and I required immediate care. I found her to be polite and listened to my symptoms . My huge complaint is the wait time, regardless if you are an established patient with an appointment. Their walk in vs. scheduled appointment system needs great improvement. It appears that having an appointment has no benefit. Had an 11:00 appointment and waited until 11:55 while walk ins prior to my 11 appointment were called. Very frustrating. However, their office hours are accommodating to the working patient.

This place used to be good but all good doctors left. Now,…read morethey are money grabbers. They'll first give you questionnaire and eventually bill you around $200 for answering simple questions like how many times you drink Alcohol which doctor is supposed to ask you in visit. Then my son needed vaccination records for college. First they delayed him 3 weeks and then They wanted him to come from MA and book appointment with doctor, when asked what for , it's a record which legally they are bound to give, they pushed it on doctor and doctor pushes back on Caremedica. Eventually , Doctor had video conference and they billed $142 after insurance. I have to pay for the records which I'm supposed to get legally for free. Then these doctors check you and prescribe medicine; you are lucky if it works by fluke, or else they'll keep on prescribing you expensive non generic ones. These doctors also will send you to most expensive non functioning "Specialists" to get tests done which you don't need. Those specialist either can't find anything wrong on you or all your problems are genetical. We could disprove these physicians because we have Medics in family but if you don't, let's say good luck

At first, I was slightly nervous to see a new HT provider, as I already was established elsewhere. Even if elsewhere wasn't quite meeting my needs, I already had a surgeon referral from them that I wanted to maintain. From my first conversation with the appointment setter on the phone, I felt at ease. The person on the phone was knowledgeable, articulate, polite, cheerful, & showed compassion and empathy. I was quickly set up for two appointments- one for HT with Sharon, & an upcoming one with Melissa. Now my appointments were set, I set on a little research expedition by scouring their practice's website & patient portal. This place almost seemed too good to be true. Like, is there really a practice that is meant for LGBTQ+ healthcare? Yeah, pinch yourself real quick, because it's for real. The website is clad in affirming pride flags, inclusive pronouns, & (almost) too good to be true claims of inclusivity, respect, & a genuine passion to provide compassionate healthcare for LGBTQ patients. Now that I've had an appointment, I know the claims aren't just lip service. AHI is legitimately a multispecialty practice made for the LGBTQ+ community by LGBTQ+ health professionals. Until you've experienced the extreme difference between a practice run by LGBTQ+ professionals versus well meaning allies, it may seem like the differences would be nice, but nominal or not necessary to a good experience. I know I definitely didn't think there would be much of a difference. But, the differences are immense. The differences involve a primary concerted focus on patient respect- respecting their identity, pronouns, name, health & social history, sexuality, & health goals- genuinely & without judgment. Everyone from the appointment setters to nurses to the doctors understand how important it is for their patients to feel respected and understood, especially their transgender patients like myself who are used to negative experiences regarding our medical care. Meeting with Sharon was a great experience. She was personable- friendly, respectful, attentive, & approachable. she reassured me that I am allowed to have boundaries and refuse to answer anything I didn't feel comfortable answering. But, honestly, Sharon is so great at what she does that any nervous feelings were alleviated quickly. As the appointment went on, she proved herself to be knowledgeable and confident in her experience with hormone therapy. I was finally able to get answers regarding my therapy that went unanswered for so long. I totally recommend AHI to any transgender, queer, or otherwise LGBTQ patients looking for gender affirming/ sexual health/ gyn/ primary care/ prescriptions in an atmosphere that is legitimately inclusive, because those who work there truly care about us.
